Chapter 14. Spying
'Starbucks?'
'No, we can't always go to Starbucks. I've a job to do.' I waved Sunstreaker off. 'Oh come on... there's always time for Starbucks. 1 PM, okay?' I halted and turned. 'Sunstreaker—' he cut me off. 'Sunny, how many times do I need to tell you that I want you to call me Sunny?' He snapped. 'You dread that name.' He gave me a look. 'Fine, 1 PM, but not one minute earlier.' He nodded. 'Sure, where are you heading?' I gestured at the stairs. 'The meeting room.'
'Then I'll walk you there.' I sighed softly and let him guide me. 'Do you want to hang out tonight? I want to show you something,' he said. 'I can stop by after I'm done, but I have an appointment at six.' He turned his head. 'Appointment? What are you going to do?' I bit my lip and shrugged. 'Nate asked me to have dinner with him tonight and I agreed.'
'That pathetic bundle of meat?' He snorted and tilted his head arrogantly. 'What?! I told you I'm making friends around here,' I scolded. 'Yeah, but why him? He's a rookie and he doesn't know a damn thing, I do!' He pointed at himself. 'What are you implying?' He shrugged. 'You can better go out for dinner with me. I'm fun, he's boring, he's weak, I'm strong.' I gave him a look. 'Are you getting jealous?'
'I have a jealous nature, so yeah...' I shook my head. 'Seriously?' He shrugged again. 'Don't ruin this for me. It would be really nice to have your support for once.' He raised his brows. 'My support?!' He mocked, almost snapping. 'Can't you just do something I'm return?'
'Like what? I'm just telling you the truth. You shouldn't date him.' I snorted and shook my head. 'Dating? I wasn't talking about dating you punk. I was talking about just dinner.' He laughed coldly. 'Just dinner?' He snapped. 'Yes.'
He was getting mean and I didn't like his jealous nature. 'Sunstreaker, stop it.' He glared. 'Sunny,' he corrected me again. I sucked in a breath. 'I'm going and there's nothing you can do about it,' I scolded and pushed open the door to the meeting room. Sunstreaker kept standing in the hall and eventually left.
After the meeting, it was 1:15 PM and I bet Sunstreaker won't be pleased. I found him the hangar, sitting in his hood, drawing. 'Finally, Jeez...' he got up and closed his sketchbook. 'I'm starving.' I hummed. 'Yeah, yeah...' I waved him off. I hopped in his alt-mode. 'Seriously, Nate?' I groaned. 'I'm not going to discuss this with you, Sunstreaker. I decide, not you.' I snapped. He didn't reply.
((Sunstreaker's P.O.V))
I wasn't going to let this one slide. This 'human' can't just steal my victim. She's my project and I decide what happened to her. I spied on her the entire day, trying to find out more. When she left with Nate, I followed and parked on the parking lot. I hopped out and strode into the restaurant. I made sure to stay out of sight and sat down further away where I had a perfect view on them, but I'm sure they won't see me. The human male for sure. Female, she's smart.
I only had thirty bucks on me, little bit low in cash, but at least it's something. It's worth spending the money on. The female had given it to me for me to go to Starbucks but I never spend it on Starbucks. I sat back, trying to listen, but I couldn't make out what they were saying. It's so frustrating to see my victim getting pulled away. Like a seal who gets away just in time before the shark can kill it. The frustration is high and really working on my nerves.
I really have to get rid of the human, but she will know. If she figures out I killed the thing, she will never look at me again and all my hard work will be wasted. We are finally heading in the right direction. I wasn't sure yet how to handle the situation, maybe he should have a little 'accident'.
I tapped on the table while staring at them the entire time. She was smiling and talking excitedly. Honestly, I felt like it was fake. She wasn't happy. Not after all that happened. She's pretending and lying. All the time she's accusing me of it being fair, but neither is she. The only times she's honest about her feelings is when she's with me. I'm here scapegoat. Not that it bothered me. I'm used of being used as a scapegoat.
After her dinner and mine, I followed them outside. They said goodbye but the human male didn't take her home. Why wouldn't he? Isn't that what a mech is supposed to do after a 'date' or whatever this is? She said it wasn't a date, but it looked pretty much like a date. I somehow couldn't let her walk back in the rain either.
'You'd like to have a ride home?'
She yelped and turned swiftly. Her eyes showed shock before replacing for anger. I could've expected that. 'Don't get mad at me. I could've let you walk back in the rain, but since I'm a psychopath with manners, I'm offering you a ride home.' I gestured at my alt-mode. She was already soaking wet and cold, so she didn't hesitate... luckily.
She hopped in and turned on my heaters. 'Did you had fun?' She nodded. 'Yeah, I did.' She didn't look at me. 'I know pretty well when people are pretending. I used to do it a lot to hide my feelings. To show people I'm fine, while I wasn't. It's going to break you eventually.' She snorted and shot me a glare. 'I know you don't believe me.'
She sighed and slumped back. 'I just feel angry all the time.' She turned her head to look out of the window and hide her face. I'm pretty sure her eyes were watery. 'I know... but pretending isn't gonna make it any better.' She didn't respond and kept staring out of the window.
