Chapter 7 Life in the Alley Way

        Tom's POV:

Tom thinks life in the alleyway might not be for everyone. He forgot what his life was like before he came to live here.

He is too stubborn to see what he has become. He refuses to seek help and to let anyone stand in his way.

"Tom's flashback..."

Tom smiles at his pregnant wife. He can not believe he is to be a father.

Sabine sees him smile at her and grins at him in return. She is happy to see his excitement about the baby.

A few weeks later, Tom loses his job, and it is also around the time Sabine goes into labor. The whole thing could not have taken place at a worse time. He does not know how to tell his wife he is out of work.

He drives her to the hospital and parks the car. He helps her inside and watches as she gives birth to their daughter, Marinette.

Months later he is drunk, the eviction notice comes, so he tries to gamble to get some money only he loses everything. Now they find themselves without a home and it is no wonder his father-in-law is angry with him.

Years pass and his wife grows ill. She has no way to get the treatments she needs so she passes away.  He is left alone with his teenager girl.

End of Flashback...

Tom thinks oh, so that is how it came to this, huh.  He feels no remorse for anything.  It is not like it was his fault he was fired.  No, he blams all the bad things that happen in his life to the circumstances around him.

He distrusts anyone and anything.  He is one miserable man.

The others in the alley know not to mess with him. This is to say other homeless men, women, and children are all afraid of him.  It is because he is so cruel.  They rather stay as far away as they can from this Mr. Cheng as he calls himself sometimes or Dupain-Cheng.

Little do they know there is a life outside the alley way or that Marinette who is no longer here is better off because of the generosity of the rich kid.

Marinette's POV:

Marinette does wish her father would not be so stubborn. She knows though try as she might he refuses to give up his shellfish ways. She can not remain in that lifestyle anymore. Not when she has met Adrien.  She knows now she can have a life worth something.

She does seek to find a way to help others who are now like she once was herself. She hates to see anyone without enough food, clothes, or very little shelter. She decides she must work hard so she can afford to assist others.

Marinette has a kind heart as her mother did which is probably why she is sad about the conditions of the poor. She sobs whenever she thinks about them.
