Chapter Fifteen: The Rescue
It did not take long for Dorothy to find the dead Witch's Winkie servants. They gladly went off to work to remove her remains, and they inquired what else that she wanted them to do.
She told them to look for Toto and Effigy's broken parts, and if, at all possible, Bo. She had Luav, who had been caged since the monkey attack, set free, and he stayed by her side as she started to sort things out.
"Was she as scary as she sounded?" Luav asked Dorothy, nearly shivering.
She shook her head.
"What was she like?"
Dorothy did not answer Luav's question. She did not want to go into detail about how she was not going to kill the Wicked Witch after all. She did not even bother telling Luav about the plans they were about to make. She did not tell him anything about her at all.
A few hours later, the Winkies rushed in a large group.
"He's alive," one of them said, "We found him by a stream-- he was nearly dead. We're taking him to the infirmary right now."
Dorothy choked out in surprise. "Bo?"
"Yes, Miss Gale," the Winkie said with a nod of his head. "Would you like to see him?"
"Yes!" Dorothy shouted, following the group of Winkies, who she had just realized that they were carrying the poor cyborg.
They took him to a long room lined with beds and sat him down on one. They began to hook him up to equipment-- a ventilator, a heart monitor, an IV... She stood back at a distance as she watched them.
Then, the medical professional-- not a doctor, she had discovered-- informed her that Bo would live, but it would take about a week or more for him to completely heal. Besides that, he would need to have his arms and legs and part of his face replaced since they had been destroyed by the mechanized monkeys.
Dorothy nodded, and set out to find if any of the Winkies were experts in cybernetics. Sure enough, there was a team of them who had worked with the monkeys, but they knew how to create parts for humans. They also offered to reassemble both Effigy and Toto, and create more parts for them as needed.
Things seemed to be shaping up well.

Bo had just gotten his cybernetic limbs and his facial replacement, and Dorothy sat at his bedside after he awoke.
She fidgeted a bit nervously, twisting her fingers together as he blinked up at her.
"Dorothy?" he croaked.
"Yes, it's me," she replied, swallowing a sudden lump in her throat. She smiled a bit as her eyes watered a little.
"I thought I was a goner... how...?"
Dorothy took a breath. "She tried to make me her ally."
"For what?" Bo asked, suddenly trying to sit up. Dorothy put a hand on his shoulder and gently made him lie back down.
"She wanted my help to assassinate the Wizard," she replied quietly. "I agreed..."
"Gale." He gave her a look that was slightly stern.
"Sorry," she said quickly, "She was so convincing."
Bo shook his head a little. "It's not that. I'll have to tell you some other time."
"Oh, okay..."
"Are you alright though?" Bo asked Dorothy, looking up at her, his eyes slightly wide.
She nodded. "All's well that ends well. We'll head back to the Emerald City, I guess, once you're back up on your feet and Toto and Effigy are fixed. They're almost finished-- they're just making sure they can move around and respond to their programming and everything without any malfunctions or bugs."
Bo nodded, and they began quietly talking about what they would do once they returned to the city, as well as what they would say to the Wizard. It was an unspoken agreement between Bo and Dorothy that they would do what it took to make sure that the Wizard of Oz followed up on his promises to them.
Later, Dorothy left Bo to rest and such, but she kept noticing the Winkies going in and out of the hospital room.
When she asked one of them about it, all the Winkie man said was, "We like you friend. He is a good man." And that was all.

The next day, as Dorothy was preparing to leave, a Winkie cornered her.
"What is it?" Dorothy asked.
The Winkie man handed her an earpiece that was in his hand. It slid into the cup of her palm and she looked down at the little black piece as it rolled a bit in her hand.
"What is it?" she asked him.
"It's a honing device, of sorts. It recognizes basic commands, as long as the command has the word 'monkey' in it. It controls the Witch's flying monkeys," he told her.
Dorothy's eyebrows shot up. What?
"Why...why are you giving this to me?" she asked.
"It might be useful to you. You could have the monkeys carry you and your friends and robots to the Emerald City so you will not have to walk all the way there."
"I hadn't thought of that. Thank you," Dorothy said, sticking the device into her left ear.
Just a few hours later, Dorothy commanded the monkeys to carry her and the others off to Oz. The monkeys were no longer frenzied, berzerk, or vicious like they had been when they Wicked Witch of the West had sent them to attack Dorothy, Bo, Toto, Effigy, and Luav.
Luav was covering his eyes with his front paws the entire time, Toto and Effigy had been deactivated for the flight, Bo was yelling and hollering in excitement, and Dorothy just watched the world below in awe and wonder.
A/N:
Fun fact: Luav's name is actually a kind of shortened, mixed up version of luava, which is Latvian for "lion.". It was kind of difficult to think of a different name for him, and I did not want to call him "the Lion" or "the Cowardly Lion" all the freaking time, ya know?
1. Glad that Bo's alive? *wink wink* I am too. I've got big plans for him and a special someone. *wink wink*
2. What do you think? Any thoughts, questions, or concerns?
3. Um, in the rewrites I will definitely expand things. Yeah. I will. This is probably just gonna be the bare bones, and then I will add its booky flesh in the rewrites. Hehe I'm building a book.
