chapter thirty-seven
“Your turn to die now.”
Valiana fired on the Winx which shook out with the fairies, singling out from each other and roughly landed on the ground. It was more painful due to the presence of small stones scattered around so they got themselves even more wounded than before.
Though, not something they couldn't tolerate nor withstand.
An azure light was sprinkling about on the atmosphere before scattering into little dots of fairy dust which gave rise to and rewarded the Winx with a further powerful spirit - it felt like nothing could stop them.
“I got to defend this world on my own. Until my last breath. And I finally did. I can rest in peace. Go. End this war. I am with you.” The voice was very familiar to the angel's one. The fairies closed their palms and their eyes, smiling at the thought of Arraya's sweet face.
Stella was the first to stand back up on her feet, very determined “We will, Arraya. Let's fight this war together, Winx.”
“Ooh, I see. They have received the angel's blessing-- I would need. to steal it!” Valiana contemplated to herself before spinning herself 360° creating a tornado made of sand so it could trap the Winx and, eventually, slay them at some point.
“Watch out!” Tecna and Musa exclaimed together as they stretched their hands forward and created a humongous shield that was able to protect evidently everyone on the field from the wind.
“Whoo-hoo! Yes, go Tecna!” Timmy cheered for his wife out of relief that they were still alive due to the braveness and strength still vacated in these fairies.
“Flora, come on, our turn. Let's go!” The water fairy grabbed her friend's arm to drag her out of the scene to catch Valiana in astonishment. “Aisha, Dreamix!”
“Flora, Dreamix!”
Helia came running towards his wife to make sure she would be olay on her own once again considering he knew she might would have felt apprehensive after years. “Uhm, Flo, are you--”
Once the tornado died down, the two fairies pushed themselves high up in the sky, causing a turbulent wind to strike on the ground and, fortunately, Helia was able to not be impacted by it and he just wished the Winx luck.
The villainess in the sky noticed them but she didn't intend to move an inch for the reason that something would have soon happened that no one else except, for her, would have expected it.
Just then, a few clouds covered the Moon, blinding everyone from light as everything else was covered in complete darkness.
Valiana smirked. “It is time.”
The smoke infiltrated its way through people's noses which caused them to uncontrollably cough and struggle to breathe altogether.
“Ugh, I-- Can't... I need... Light!” Stella attempted to generate light but due to the scarcity of the Moon's glow, she was having a few struggles which usually she would not encounter.
“Stella, you good? Can you do it?” Brandon mumbled since his mouth was covered by his arm to stop any more smoke to enter his respiratory system.
Tecna poked Stella's shoulder as she pointed at the sky. “The Moon! It's turning...”
“All the planets in the entire Magic Universe have all aligned up and I have been waiting for this moment for thousands of centuries.” Valiana's eye tint was not visible any longer as it was completely coated in raven from the pupil to the sclera.
Her outfit burned into ashes as her body was enclosed in dark clouds materialising from her skin and slight fading, yet never-ending, as well as her skin shifting to a pitch coal-black shade from head to toe.
“Her Excellence has returned.” She smirked before clapping her hands together and a variety of monsters appeared on the plain ground surrounding the Winx with the Specialists and soldiers.
Nabu called upon his staff and went on the battle position as he kept watch of his surroundings to be on alert. He panicked. “Oh heck nah! What are those disgusting creatures!?”
“Oh no!” Aisha's eyes frightened as she gawked from above. “Nabu watch out, please!”
“Hey! It's just like the book said back in Alfea, remember?” The brunette insisted. “Something about the Moon becoming red.”
“Ugh. Shoot, shoot, shoot! Alright, what should we do? Right now, we could've had a chance to take down that ugly witch by surprise, even for a little bit, but-- now... we need to help them or we won't make it!”
Flora nodded. “Yeah, I think it's better if we go back on the ground to help the rest-- Hmph!”
“What?! Flo, what happened... oh-oh!” Aisha gasped as soon as she noticed that something stabbed the nature fairy on her thigh on the left side. She instantly gazed downwards only for her eyes to encounter a hedgehog looking-like animal with red infuriating eyes aiming at the two fairies in the air.
“I'm o-okay! Not that deep... I hope.”
Helia saw for the fact that it annoyed him that all he could do was watch. “Crap! That demon won't leave them alone!”
“Focus, Helia! I'm pretty sure they can do it. I trust Aisha.” Nabu reminded his friend as he whacked a monster off him.
“Hold on, uhh, let me do something. Stay still.” Aisha created a water ball that carried the spike out of Flora's leg to minimise the injury. “Good, now... We better move 'cause that thing is onto us!”
They both nodded at each other and flew away to distract the monster that was constantly attempting to strive at them to fetch them down as its master - Her Excellence - wishes so.
“No one is going to escape from the fury of my children of the night. The Underworld has returned!” Valiana announced, calling even more monsters, outnumbering the people as they were almost double the number. “It is like hide-n-seek but here there is no hiding.”
“Oh-oh, she went nuts!” Stella was extremely provoked but was held down by Bloom to concentrate on how to drive the creatures of the night away.
“Stella, chill! If we can't hide, we are going to require a huge amount of light in order to make them hide away instead.” The fire fairy smirked at the idea as the light fairy nodded.
“That is going to be much harder than you think, though. I am slowly losing contact with the Moon as well as my powers!”
“Nothing to stop a Winx, though!”
Brandon kicked a monster's face following by stabbing him in the head with his laser sword then faced the fairies. “Girls, go! We'll take care of things here!”
“My hero! Please, be careful!” Stella gave him a quick peck on the lips before reuniting with Bloom and flying off to join Aisha and Flora in the air, who were both flying away to evade an overly blustered monster who was almost as fast as they were, therefore hard to lose.
“As much as I love more company, watch your backs!” Aisha informed before striding in the cover of Bloom and Stella to make a shield so the spikes wouldn't ambush them. “Seriously, why is it so angry?”
“Rainfall of petals!” Flora blew some dust to propel the monster to fall numb for a while. “There, that should be enough.”
“Whoa, that thing really had something against you. And it's ugly and unpleasant to look at too, bleh.” The blonde fairy commented.
“Anyways, first of all, we'll need a distraction,” Bloom announced and was interrupted by the arrival of another two fairies to make the group complete.
“You can count on us too, Bloom.” Tecna and Musa flew up to them too in their Dreamix fairy form, reuniting with the rest of the Winx Club.
“Glad you guys are okay!” Musa asserted as she put her fists together as she indicated at Valiana higher up in the sky. Then her eyebrow twitched as she said, “She just got on every single of my nerves, which is something Riven usually does.”
“Ooh, Riven has competition.” Stella teased, which made the girls chuckle for a few seconds.
Bloom cleared her throat as she went ahead with a rationale. “Alright, we need to get close enough to the Moon for Stella to transmit even a little amount left in her of light energy so the Moon will restore to its true form.”
“Wow, Bloom. Do you even hear yourself? How is Stella going to be able to do that when, well, she's there!” The techno-fairy referred to the villainess who has just glimpsed at the fairies.
“You got it correct, you annoying fairies!” She grins as she promptly, smarter than the speed of light, thumped the Winx off. As they relinquished their balance, Valiana simply, and determinedly, chose to witness them tumble and collapse, the same way she eliminated Arraya initially, hoping to get rid of the Winx in a similar route.
Sky witnessed their downfall and hurried the Specialists. “The girls--!”
“Shoot. Damn it! These monsters won't stop showing up, I don't know what we should do!” Helia indicated, his back on Sky, so they could watch each other's backs as they fought the never-ending raid of the creatures.
“No, Musa!” Riven felt his tears coming as he lost track of his girlfriend in the clouds.
“Well, buh-bye!” Valiana cackled. Then, once she lost sight of the fairies, she was about to make her unto the Moon to fully claim her title but then remembered. “I need the angel's blessing and they freakin' got it! But I will be Empress no matter what--!”
A beam of light cut Valiana off and, she was able to dodge it, except losing a few hairs, yet not getting hit was the main point.
“Eh? Don't tell me...”
“You think that's all you need to take us down?” A voice tormented Valiana, which was no other than Stella herself. “That was so old-fashioned, sweetheart. You gotta keep up with the latest trend, at least! That has got to be one of the rules I'll teach to my beautiful daughter.”
“Seriously, do better.” Bloom also appeared alongside the remainder of the Winx Club then savagely admitted, “After all we suffered through, that was just a tickle.”
“Phew! Glad to know they got it under control over there.” Timmy took account, which made the Specialists take a sigh of relief. However, it didn't last long considering they were still stuck in battle.
Valiana plainly clenched her teeth as she formed her hands into fists, building up power inside of her. “Ugh. This is absurd! Why do stupid fairies have long lifespans... Just die!”
The villainess began as she assembled clouds, as hazy as smoke, above the Winx and clapped her hands together to shape lightning to blow each one of them and hope her aims are right on point.
“Who wants some fried fairies?” Valiana laughed as she waited to see the Winx and their defeat. Although, when she narrowed her eyes, all she could see was smoke, and no sign of the fairies, which meant she did hit them. “Ah!”
“Where are they?!” Helia panicked but Sky merely had a smirk glued on his lips.
“Don't worry. Don't you trust the Winx? Five years of no real fighting built up all the energy they're going to release against that prick.” Sky confided Helia, who was confused at first then tilted his head.
“Those don't look like shooting stars-- The stars... are they... falling?”
“Hm?”
Helia pointed his fingers above, which eventually caught up the attention of everyone even the monsters which they were fighting were also distracted by this phenomenon.
“Uh-- I... Yes, yes, yes! It is just like the scriptures!” Valiana sought in joy. “The victory is so close, I can certainly taste it.”
The scriptures, which also warned the Winx, mentioned that ‘When the stars collapse and thy moon turn red, she will soon reclaim her title and go by the name of Empress of the Underworld. She will go undefeated.’
Nevertheless, what Valiana thought was happening, was... quite the opposite. The stars were rocks from the outer Universe which were captivated by gravity to plunge upon the earth, regardless, they were oddly all intended for Valiana and the villainess momently seized an effort to swerve the rocks.
“Hold on-- these?! What in the Dragon is going on?” Valiana panted as she flew higher up in the atmosphere. “You are so done, Winx brats. Come on out! Show yourselves!”
Then, she witnessed something reaping near to her and she was willing to detonate a spell but when she acknowledged what was about to come to pass, she felt the urge to hide away when she shouldn't feel that way. Except, her body denied to move so she frantically stood still.
In the meanwhile, all the soldiers and Specialists, who were presently occupied with the combat against the terrors of the monsters knew something was off for the fact that the monsters hid away and left the battle scene, which left many eased and perplexed at the same time.
“Guys, it's happening!” Brandon announced happily.
“Yes!” The soldiers also observed and were celebrating this moment.
“Winx! Convergence!”
“Soothing melody.” Musa appeared first from behind the clouds, as her body shone in violet with her fairy wings. She held a magic ball and slowly threw it forward for the convergence power spell to work.
“Intelligence.” Tecna appeared from behind the music fairy as her body illuminated in green. She also threw her magic ball to join Musa's - it even enhanced in size.
“Water.” Aisha shined in dark blue as her magic ball formed with the main one at the centre. The fairy was lined up next to Tecna and Musa.
Timmy removed his glasses to clean them then put them back on to sit on his nose. “This got to be a whole new power... I never saw them do anything like that before!”
“Continue,” Valiana mumbled to herself.
“Light.” Stella then came, looking incandescent within a bright yellow colour. Her spell was also added to power the convergence spell against Valiana.
“Life.” Flora emerged from behind Stella, her body coated in pink. She blew her magic ball together with what the other Winx already set off.
And finally, Bloom, last but not least, appeared. - “Fire.” - She realised a little dragon from within the palm of her hand which went and wrapped around the huge magic ball that has been created before fusing with it to complete the convergence spell.
Although, Valiana used the wind to steal the magic power ball from the Winx. She held it floating in between her hands proudly. “Oh, my jewel! You are falling right into my trap--!”
“Oh, no! What do we do?” The water fairy panicked, turning to face her allies.
Bloom went onwards. “It is not the end. Alena told us not to attack her.”
“Then, why are we doing the convergence spell?!” Stella asked, nervously running her hands in her blonde hair.
“It was just a distraction,” Bloom smirked then pointed with her head what was happening with Valiana in the meanwhile.
“I-- Get out of my head!” Valiana kept shouting, trying to get that sound out of her as she started shooting randomly, letting go of the ball, which moved in front of her, seconds away from exploding. “A-Argh...!”
“We did it!” Musa celebrated, hugging the first person she saw which was Flora.
“It is time, Master.”
The fire fairy took a deep breath whilst closing her eyes. Once she opened them again, they lost their cyan shade but turned to be sharp flaming orange as well as her hair opposed to gravity as they levitated upwards.
“B-Bloom? What are you doing?” Flora tried to touch her but instantly burned her finger due to the fact that Bloom's high-temperature body since it was literally on fire.
“I was given this mission. Please understand what is about to happen.” The Dragon's spoke using Bloom's voice instead, which led to confusing the girls further: was she going to do what they thought she was about to do?
Suddenly, Bloom brought up one of her hands above her head and gave rise to a dagger made of coal and thoroughly garnished in seething blazes which she intensely gripped within her fist. The redhead slightly leaned forward with her shoulders and pushed her right leg back. In a second, she was located before Valiana.
Sky, who was witnessing the scene, fell on his knees with hot tears falling from his eyes. “B-Bloom. Don't tell me--”
“You messed with the wrong people, Valiana.” The Dragon spoke from Bloom. “You'll be punished according to the gods' wishes.”
Valiana compelled an accomplishment to suppress but her body was not under her influence anymore. “As if--”
Bloom raised the dagger and went ahead to make a deep cut in Valiana's chest. Once she did, the weapon disappeared from her hands and Bloom lifted her chest, in which the Dragon within her came out and attacked Valiana where the wound has been made for a more fatal blow.
During so, the Moon turned back to its original snowy pigment and the stars were back in place as if nothing just took place. The process took a few moments just to see Valiana falling to her doom followed by Bloom, who was unconscious at the time.
“Bloom!” The Winx shouted worriedly about their friend's safety. They all started flying downwards as fast they could, batting their wings as many times every second to lessen the distance between them and Bloom.
“No!” Sky stood up, leaving all his weapons behind to be the one to catch his wife on time before it was too late, and, luckily, he caught her on time before Bloom could've landed on a sharp rock.
The Winx ought a sigh of relief once they found Bloom in Sky's arms.
“It's the end now... It's the end.” The fire fairy mumbled against Sky's chest just before she blacked out and any voices or noises blocked out from her ears and mind.
Sly cupped her face with his left hand while using his other hand to shook her to see if she would wake up. But she wasn't. “Bloom! Hurry! We need a doctor!”
The fairies finally landed on the ground and ran to see Bloom, while the soldiers were taking away Valiana in cuffs to throw her behind bars, which was easier to do since she was also inanimate.
Nighttime fall upon them but their tears only began to transcend for the member of their party who seemed to have sacrificed for the sake of everyone else and the Magic Universe.
Except, the war has ended, the evil has been defeated; It was time to come home as heroes, moreover, they would also return as mourners.
~~~
“Hey~ it's us. How's she?” Stella entered the royal bedroom along with the Winx and the Specialists following behind, where Bloom and Sky lingered. “Any new updates?”
“Sadly, no. Nothing yet.” The King of Eraklyon answered in utter sadness. “How are you guys? Did they treat your wounds well?”
“Hm, you can count on that,” Riven said, which was evident considering he was covered with many plasters and stitches around his body. “I already feel much better, ha.”
“I'm happy for you then,” Sky mumbled, his eyes still stuck on his wife, his hands wrapped around hers.
“She's strong, you know her. Did you see who we went up against to?” Tecna reminded as the rest of the Winx Club nodded their heads; it was one of the toughest fights that it would be hard to forget.
“Yeah, but it was the first and last time 'cause that Valiana chick was a piece of work,” Aisha complained, patting her tensed shoulders so Nabu came up behind her to give a massage.
“Faragonda is back as well as the school nurse. This sure was hard to do but you did it, guys.” Helia told the Winx, to at least lighten up the mood.
“Yeah. Then there's her: Bloom would sacrifice herself for anyone she loves and cares for at any time. I love this fierce side of her.” Musa proudly mentioned with a smile, a tear escaping her dark blue eyes. “I swear if she doesn't wake up soon and say she's fine, I'll-- ugh.”
“She is indeed the heroine of all.” Flora rested her head on Helia's shoulder, who also wrapped his arm around her and rubbing her arm for consolation.
Sky remembered Bloom slipping an object in his pocket and instantly went to reach for it. His eyes were quite blurred by his tears but once he recognised what was it, he broke down, even more, burying his face in his hands.
“Bloom, you knew this would have happened in case you did not make it... didn't you, uh?!” He whimpered then stared at the item: it was the pendant of Eraklyon, the one Bloom inherited from her husband. Additionally, Sky discovered a few seconds after that, inside the pendant, there was their family picture with their kids together.
The royal doctor was short of words. “Madam's state does not seem to improve, Your Highness.”
“Isn't there anything you can do?! At all?” Stella cried, hot tears rushing down her cheeks.
“Sir!” A soldier entered the room frantically and out of breath as he leaned forward with his hands on his knees. The attention was all caught in his following words, “Your Majesty! The prisoner!”
Down, way beneath them, where Valiana was held hostage by the guards of Domino in the cell where she could be the most isolated from the Magic Universe at the moment.
The villain had cuffs in both her hands and feet in addition to being chained against the wall for more precautions. Although, the guards have noticed something unusual occur: Valiana was starting to turn into dust then disappeared into thin air. At first, they feared she must have escaped but that was not it. It meant their beloved Queen has defeated her once and for all successfully.
They had attained victory.
“Bloom won!” Musa smiled, sniffing her nose and clapping her hands for the fact that her happiness and relief could not be hidden, as well as everyone's else. “She did it!”
“Of course, it's our Bloom!” Tecna rubbed her eyes as Timmy nodded and stretched his arm out to embrace his wife and stroke her arm. “My predictions never fails me.”
It was ultimately the end.
Brandon's smile faded away as he noticed that Sky was waiting for Bloom to rise in front of everybody. “Uh, but...Why won't she wake up now?”
“Uh?” The light fairy strolled over to her friend's body laying on the king-sized royal bed. She intertwined her hand with Bloom's. “C'mon, you did it... open your eyes. Bloom. Bloom? Bloom!”
The room was filled with even more despair than before. Melancholy cries were the only sound that echoed from the room across the whole palace, as everyone was impatiently waiting for Bloom to surge.
Flora was also trying to get closer but Helia couldn't bring himself to let her near there for her sake so he was holding his wife back by wrapping his two arms around her, also for comfort. The nature fairy could not protest against Helia anymore as she only felt an emptiness inside her.
“She's not... she's not... is she?” Further tears emerged within her emerald eyes as Helia embraced her tighter and he sobbed quietly on her shoulder.
The king of Domino walked up to the elder man and grabbed him by the collar, “Doctor! Why is she still sleeping?!”
Nabu and Brandon attempted to calm their friend down but they had no right to do so because they were not experiencing what was going through Sky's mind and heart; their wives were not the ones laying on their, practically, ‘death bed’.
The doctor gulped in fear of his king's eyes. “I-I apologise, Your Honor. I am n-not sure how to help the Q-Queen. I tried everything but I am not able to do much-- She's the keeper of the Dragon's Flame, therefore her immune system tends and should be much stronger than anyone else's!”
“Argh!” Sky dragged his hands down his face and went back to Bloom's side.
“Bloom...”
The Winx were all on the weakest point they have ever been in their entire lifetime. This was more painful than being under Valiana's territory because back then they weren't slowly losing one of the dearest members of the club as they thought this precise moment.
The more seconds passed, the more the future looked blank for Queen Bloom.
Just then, five shards of flames, which make part of the Dragon's Flame, came out from Bloom's chest and levitated as each flame landed in one of the girls' chests as it entered through.
Bloom tilting her head to the side as it lost balance and a single cell escaped from her eyes.
“Sky...”
A cold finger slightly tickled Eraklyon's King's hand to catch his attention.
“Sky... are you okay?”
Stella tilted her head upwards from the blanket to stare at the layperson and noticed the redhead's eyes open. The light fairy was ready to go back focusing on crying when she realised what she saw with her eyes. “Wha-- Bloom! What the heck-- Bloom! You're alive!”
“Bloom?!” Sky instantly embraced her, whimpering on her shoulder. “I love you! So, so, so much! I-I thought I l-lost you!”
The fire fairy was able to cackle as she pointed at her wedding ring. “Yeah, I pretty much guessed that...”
“You idiot!” Musa also came around the bed to cry to her friend as Riven caught up to his girlfriend. “You were on the verge of dying! Why didn't you tell us what you were going to do--?!”
“Why would you risk your life like that?” Tecna rubbed off a tear from her now cherry cheeks due to Bloom.
The Queen of Eraklyon separated her hug from her husband and, even though had trouble doing so, she sat up to be able to face everyone in the room.
“Ah, they said it was the only way out... The chances were low but-- that woman - Valiana - was going to be even more of a horrible person if she accomplished her plan. I consulted with the Dragon about it... I didn't seem to have time to explain things out while we were, literally, in war.” Bloom explained, hanging her head low, playing with her fingers.
“I'm happy you're still here with us. With your husband, your kids and your kingdom.” Flora soothed. “It would've been great agony if you really left us, Bloom.”
“Thanks, Flora... Oh, wait, sorry. Guys, you should go back home with your kids. Enough with worrying about me or being mad at me I almost died. Let's postpone that, okay?”
“Tsk. ‘Okay’, my ass.” Aisha blurted out as she went to hug Bloom as well. “I'll try to forget the heart attack you gave me because I absolutely need to get back home.”
“Honey!” Nabu scratched his head nervously for his wife's language.
“Don't ‘honey’ me, I had enough this past few weeks so I should have the right to curse if I want to! Everyone I know almost died!”
“Ha, we all know Bloom would've gotten herself a good whooping from the girls but she's lucky she's not in the right conditions.” Riven jokingly whispered to Helia, who shook his head instead.
“Your Majesty, are you sure you would want to get out of bed right now?” The royal doctor queried his Queen but she didn't want to hear any of it.
“Yep. Completely fine.” Bloom climbed off the king-sized bed with the help of Stella and Sky. “The kids must be asleep by this time. Let me at least give them a good night kiss, ugh.”
“Thank you guys for coming here. I'll send you ships to escort you back home.” Sky told the rest of the Winx and the Specialists. “Let's stay more in contact though.”
Everyone agreed with a few nods and smiles.
“We shall.”
And once again, the current unique Company of Light were able to come home victorious with the Magic Universe still intact. The people are and shall be blessed for their continuous braveness and encouragement of their determined actions to protect. Everyone is lucky to have the Winx Club at the rescue.
THE END... or is it?
