ummmm...since i'm bored let's decompile wattpad

so...wattpad has a status page. all websites do. weeeell...if you hover over the question mark for the database...there's some questionable naming going on there.

this is quote on quote what it tells you:

"Database issues may be compromised of problems such as high replication lag, a large number of mySQL connections, or degradation in components such as Nutcracker, Redis, Read Count Slaves, the Activity Feed or Bablefish."

Redis probably manages commenting and/or the PM system databases, judging by its self-described purpose. ("Redis is an open source (BSD licensed), in-memory data structure store, used as a database, cache and message broker.")

no clue what Nutcracker is (Google is supplying insufficient results)

Bablefish is the translator.

i think they're referring to the activity feed itself when they mention it.

but the thing i think we're most interested in is this "Read Count Slaves"

from a search i made, i believe it has something to do with the infrastructure on its own? but that rephrases it as "Read Slave Count" and has something to do with EtherCAT systems. i have no idea what all that is, so i can't give an answer, but it's similar to the "parent-child" thing in coding, but with computers where you've got a "master-slave" system.

most of you probably don't understand half of this. that's okay. enjoy wrapping your head around this while the staff over in toronto try to figure this constant outage thing out and fix it.
