She glared at the many people in the stadium. Her normally bright blue eyes were as icy as they looked. The girl's hands rested on her ill-defined hips.

"I thought you were better than that. I didn't know that being genderfluid would make you all think I'm a drag queen. That's not what I am. I am simply a young person who enjoys being both male and female. The organs shouldn't define the person; listen to their heart!!" she exclaimed.

"I am ashamed to think that there are so many of you who find me ugly because I'm simply comfortable with being male and female and I just don't feel like taking hormones. Those of you who think of me that way should be ashamed to even call yourselves decent human beings," she growled.

The audience was half-roaring, half-shocked. Some were confused why others would even remotely begin to think of her that way. Others still couldn't get over the fact that she was lacking in the biological department...that or they didn't understand the difference between sex and gender.

"I may not have boobs. I may not be a woman by body. But I am a woman in spirit. Though I can choose to be a man, too, I just can't pick one and just stick with it. There are other people like me, and I believe I speak for them as well when I say that we deserve respect!! Let us be or we'll have this talk again...and I won't be half as nice as I am now," Soleanna shouted into the mic before she ran offstage.

She hid herself behind the curtains in the dressing room, absolutely certain she'd be disqualified from the runnings. The girl buried her head in her hands, crying quietly.

Two of her friends had pushed their way through the outraged crowds into the backstage. They wanted to make sure that she was okay...

"Soleanna?" a boy called. "You all right?"

She sniffled, shaking her head. "I...I don't wanna get disqualified... I came here to have fun a-and then I get insulted and...and called names and...and now I might get disqualified because..."

"Shhhh..." her other friend murmured, comforting her. "We're here for you, Sol..."

She sobbed endlessly into her hands, fear and pain breaking her frail heart without mercy. "I...I wish they'd just accept me...!"

To their surprise, one of the judges walked in.

"Miss Soleanna?" he asked gently.

"Wh-what is it...?" she murmured fearfully.

"I'd just like to say that your speech out there was a good one. I've heard more eloquent, but you've certainly made them think. You have power, Miss Soleanna. The more you call their attention, the more they will listen. The more of a point you make, the more they will believe you. I, for one, will do anything and everything in my power to keep you in the running."

She looked up, meeting this man's eyes. They looked so familiar to her...oh, so familiar...

"...Father...?" she murmured so softly that she was hardly audible.

A smile graced his features. "I'm glad you've found something that makes you happy, my girl... Be you, no matter what they say. Love whoever you want, no matter how they tell you not to. You're a very special child, and I hope we can make up for a little lost time."

She leapt from her chair, her mascara running down her delicate cheeks as she hugged her long-lost father. "I hope so, too..."

Her friends stood there quietly, smiling with joy and relief.

Soleanna went on to be the Kalos Queen of that season. She was able to defend her throne for another three years before she retired back to Alola, where she and her father lived together for a few years.
