Lost in Thought {oneshot}

He sat there quietly, listening to the waves. It was done. He'd finally told them all the truth. They knew. All of the world knew who he was. Knew what he was.

He looked to the silver pendant he wore around his neck, remembering his light. His love, his one and only. The artist laid his hands over the evil-looking trident. Together, they had rejected what fate had thrown at them. After all this time...all these dimensional hops and escapades, rendezvous and battles...he was with her forever. They were inseparable.

They had refused to let death's tattered wings close around them in their darkest hour.

They remained a shining beacon of light.

They were alive.

She lay beside him, smiling gently. Nothing appeased him more than seeing her beautiful face. For she was his light, his heroine in his darkest hour. She was his everything, his whole world. She was the only person that mattered to him now. He needed nothing more than to hold her close.

Finally, for the first time in eighteen years, he really knew what love was. He finally knew what it meant to love and be loved. The silence between them was one of knowing, one of a gentle kindness never to fade away. Any disagreements they'd ever had were gone, washed away with the ocean's calming waters. Their souls were cleansed with the waves, and their hearts were lulled to peace with the setting sun.

He held her hand in his, crying silent tears of relief. Not just relief, but tears of joy as well. Death was long out of sight, longer still out of mind. His past was well behind him. Ahead of them lie their future together.

Their love, their family. Their life as a married couple. If they chose to have any, their children. The love between them was eternal. It was as true as the earth beneath their feet and the sky above their heads.

No more running. No more uncertainty. No more lies.

Only the truth existed between them. They would forever stay beside each other in the place that they chose to call home.

His vision fogged with tears, he got a good look at her, his beautiful savior. Her delicate features had seen a lot, be it pain or other worlds. Her long, almost tangerine-colored hair was hung gently over her shoulders, its black tips glimmering in the fading sun. She was, and forever would be, his twilight princess. The indigo hues in her eyes shone with her love for him, letting him find peace in it all once more. As the breeze blew, her long, bunny-like ears swayed in the wind, bringing her hair with them. The scarlet blouse she wore had seen better days, but it still held up, and the same could be said for the pleated orange-and-black skirt she wore. Her white flats, sunk into the sand, grounding her beside him, despite the pair of angelic wings that hung from her back.

She was everything he needed, and he hoped he could forever be the same for her. Though he was no angel, nor a symbol or a fancy being of another world, he was the most important person in the world to her.

He closed his eyes, his own lilac shirt getting soaked by his bittersweet tears. Then he felt her gentle touch as she wiped a few of them away, holding onto the emotionally troubled young man. It was as if every time she held him, every time their bodies met...a part of his troubles, though small, melted away.

A small smile on his face, he leaned on her shoulder, letting his dearly beloved - and the ocean - wash his worries away.

Everything was going to be just fine...
