Chapter 49

A/N.: BASICALLY, this chapter is a complete filler. Why? Bc Im too drugged up on painkillers to think straight. No. lol. Its just bc Im a loser and the next chapter is the start of the Thanksgiving episodes, but I didnt want them to have a completely uneventful week before that bc that would just be... well... uneventful, so then this happened. >end of really long run-on< So anyways, no compliants even though its a very poorly written chapter and is repetitive and has no point (whatsoever). It also has a very abrupt ending (I just got really tired after awhile) and if you want, you can probably just skip this chapter entirely, but like I said, Im dying of pain while Im waiting for my root canal on Wednesday so before then, I just... I just dont really care. =__="

Sincerely, your whining lil writer whose scared of her dentist and who probably shouldn't have brought or eaten all those expensive sweets in the first place, Aubrey.

49. If It Fits

The wedding was going to be held late July next year at one of the most well known wedding venues in Hawaii. Reception would be outdoors with a gourmet buffet that held over three hundred items – and that was just the hot food! There was also going to be finger food and appetizers made by world-renowned chefs, but the most remarkable part would be the dessert section. Tables will be filled with designer cupcakes, French macaroons, assorted tarts, crepes, mousses, dacquoises, cakes and finally completed with a five-foot tall chocolate fondue fountain. The guest list was over a thousand people, and half of them have already confirmed, including Brad Pitt and Angelina, Orlando Bloom, Tyra Banks, Ian Somerhalder, Ellen Degeneres, Marlon Teixeira and of course, all the VS supermodels.

“I don’t want a really big wedding,” Michelle said as Krislynn stared at her with her mouth agape. The clack-clack sound of her five-inch stilettos today only made Krislynn dizzier as the she tried to imagine what a “big” wedding would consist of. Already, she could feel herself salivating with the thought of the food. Her stomach quickly grumbled in response, which went unnoticed by Michelle, but earned her a quick look of disdain from Chase who’d been dragging his feet down the sidewalk on her right.

He didn’t want to be there. Finally he had the afternoon off thanks to the filming schedule this week colliding with Troy’s photoshoot for Vanity Fair; he wanted to go down to the beach, ask Krislynn to rub sun tan lotion all over him, and then offer to rub sun tan lotion all over her. Not only did his fantasy vanish into thin air when Michelle called Krislynn up for lunch earlier, worse, he was stuck following them around town while they had evident conversations that excluded him.

In an attempt to have things go his way, Chase was almost tempted to drive them all down to the zoo, throw Michelle in a cage of hungry lions, grab Krislynn and then run. Of course, he could see how well that would go down, but even more importantly, Chase had grown a prominent fear of Krislynn ever since his feelings for her awakened a few nights ago.

Sure. As a guy he wanted to look good in front of the girl he liked, but even stronger was the throbbing emotion in his chest of wanting her not to think badly of him. He didn’t want to look bad in front of her, he didn’t want to seem bad in front of her and he hell as sure didn’t want her to have any bad thoughts about him. Only good ones. Only sexy ones. Which was the only reason he even agreed to the outing in the first place when Michelle called and asked if they’d be willing to watch her try on a couple of wedding dresses and give her some opinions.

If Michelle had called him instead and asked, he would have said no. If she had begged him in front of his face, he would have said no, but one hopeful look from Krislynn was enough to make him turn away and grumble “whatever.” Chase hated that he had a soft spot for her. Not even his feelings for LaCienega could have forced him to do things that he absolutely despised, and watching Michelle try on dresses was right at the top of the list.

That was also a new thing for him, liking two different girls at once. He may have finally come to terms with his attraction towards a girl that was absolutely not his type, but he hadn’t completely given up his feelings for LaCienega either. As much as Krislynn liked to believe he’d get over her with time, Chase thought it was just impossible to do so. How can he just forget about her? LaCienega was everything that he had ever wanted, and vice versa, Krislynn was everything he’d never thought of.

“We just ate less than an hour ago,” he whispered to her while keeping his eyes on Michelle to make sure she couldn’t overhear. The girl was lost in her own world though, busily blabbering about her wedding, and even if Chase had spoken normally, may not have heard him.

Krislynn released an exasperated moan. “I know,” she hissed, “but I can’t help it if I’m already hungry again!” She turned back and smiled at Michelle when she felt a tug on her arm.

“There,” she cried, and then pulled her right up to a bridal shop that looked somewhat out of place on the modern looking street. “This is the shop that I’ve been talking about. I reserved the whole place just for us today.”

Krislynn nodded and stared blankly ahead. In front of her lay a small, red brick building that gave her such a homely feel as it sat sandwiched between two much taller buildings on the road. Even from the outside, the shop beckoned her with the golden cursives of its name and the gowns of magic on display. A soft giggle caressed her lips as she pressed her cheek to the window in awe. “They’re all so beautiful!”

“Come on,” Michelle laughed, and then pulled her into the shop leaving Chase groaning to himself as he picked up his feet. He couldn’t understand what was so interesting about a bridal shop, but for Michelle and Krislynn, he imagined them to be little kids visiting Disneyland for the first time. Michelle went through stacks and stacks of dresses, wanting to try them all on, while Krislynn kept repeating, “oh my god, this is the prettiest dress I’ve ever seen” about fifty million times.

For the most part, Chase just sat in a chair and gave his opinion to Michelle, which was “ugly” when Krislynn didn’t seem to be listening, and “hmm…” every time it seemed that she was. There was one dress that caught his eye though, a very simple looking white one that he almost cast away after one second because it was so bland. It was a halter-top, plain on the front, but with a corset-like design on the back completed with a small satin bow at the bottom of the spine. A veil of intricate white lace covered the dress, but on the front, it stopped three quarters of the way down on one side and made a diagonal cut to the other end of the dress, revealing a bit of the satin fabric underneath.

The dress didn’t look so good on Michelle. It was too simple to match her exotic appearance and her breasts were too large so that the front of the dress looked bloated and distorted the rest of the gown. Chase tilted his head in deep thought; it didn’t look good on Michelle, but with Krislynn’s figure… He stopped at the thought, shifted his eyes over and smiled when he saw Krislynn had lost her breath at the sight of the dress. So maybe her tastes weren’t that bad after all.

“It’s such a beautiful dress,” she said, her voice barely an audible whisper thanks to her enchantment.

“It is,” Michelle agreed, “but it doesn’t look that good on me.”

“I think it looks good.” Krislynn blushed, reached out and stroked a corner of the gown with her fingers. “This is the kind of dress I’d wear if I ever get married.” She laughed after, blushing harder when she realized how silly it sounded. “Nevermind. That was dumb. I probably won’t get married for a really long time.”

“Hmm…” Michelle murmured and twirled around once more in front of the full-length mirrors as Chase sat in the background, completely dumbstruck. His heart hammered not fast, but heavily inside his chest, and his throat was so dry that it felt like someone was strangling him from within. The thought hadn’t even crossed his mind until that moment, and now that he was aware of it, he couldn’t stop dwelling on it. Krislynn wearing a wedding dress. Krislynn walking down the aisle. Who was going to walk her down? Who was she walking down to?

Chase clenched his teeth. He couldn’t stop thinking about it.

He’d thought about her leaving before. Three weeks, he reminded himself, but then, what happens after that? What happens after she leaves? He had never thought about it that way before. She would leave and he’d gotten over that fact, but then after, was that it? Would she still call him? Talk to him from time to time? Or come visit? Would she send him Christmas cards and little letters, tell him how she was doing and then ask him if he was doing fine? Or would she just leave and that’d be it? Just walk out of his life like she had never walked in.

He couldn’t stop himself from shaking his legs. Would she find a nice guy after? Not one of those druggies that needed a place to stay for a few months, but someone that would actually treat her right. Someone that would always be there for her. Would she fall in love? And if this guy asked her to marry him, would she say yes? Would she quickly call Chase up and tell him she was getting married? Would she invite him? And worse, would he go?

The thoughts wouldn’t stop pounding against his head. Wouldn’t you miss me? He wanted to ask her. If you just left like that, wouldn’t you miss me?

Michelle’s sharp voice suddenly cut through the boutique and Chase found that he’d never been so appreciative of the girl’s presence. The loud ring of her screech had taken him straight back to the bridal shop and now he was trying to catch his breath as he watched two eager attendants rush up to her with top speed. “Is there anything we can help you with Miss Osaka?”

“As a matter of fact, yes!” She stated, letting her eyes wander throughout the premise before descending on the creatures in front of her. “You guys offer wedding pictures here, don’t you? Do you have a photographer in right now?”

“Yes miss,” one of them answered. “We always have a professional photographer in the building at all times.”

“That’s perfect.” Her eyes narrowed and her lips twirled upward so subtly that it was hard to notice the mischievousness in their shape. With one grand wave of her hand, she ushered the attendants to look after Krislynn before stepping away from the mirrors. “Take her,” she commanded. “Measure her and then find her this dress in the right size. Doll her up while you’re at it as well. I want you guys to take lots of pictures of her!”

Krislynn’s eyes flashed with alarm before she met Chase’s gaze for a brief half of a second. “W-what? But I’m not even the one getting married!”

“Who cares! You said you wanted to wear a dress like this right? So just try it! I’m not telling you to buy the thing! Besides, it’s just a couple of pictures. It’ll be fun! Sorta like how you go shopping, try on a weird hat and post a picture of it on FB after.”

            “But– ”

“Take her away,” Michelle muttered, waving her hand again like she was tired of the discussion, but would not have anything go against her wishes. “And this one too,” she added, pointing at Chase.

Chase laughed, having recovered from his internal disruption, and raised an eyebrow at Michelle before getting to his feet. “You better have a tranquilizer gun hidden in your bra if you want to get me in a dress.”

“Not a dress,” she muttered. “A suit.” Her eyes fluttered over and landed on the attendant beside her. “You guys have suits available here don’t you?”

“Yes of course! We have an exquisite selection of suits here at the back as well. I’ll be happy to help you try one on, sir.”

“Not necessary,” he said to the attendant before turning to Michelle. “I don’t want to take wedding photos when I'm not getting married or even close to! Besides, you'll end up making it weird for me and Krislynn.”

With puckered lips forced into an unsightly frown, Michelle shrugged before eyeing him with pity – something Chase absolutely couldn’t handle considering it was coming from her. “I heard,” she sang, “that Troy sent Krissy a billion red roses the other day.” She sighed, letting the dramatic whisper whisk her into a fairytale dream as she draped a delicate arm over her forehead and pretended to faint. “Oh how romantic!” She cried.

Chase threw her a glare, but it did nothing to stop Michelle’s Oscar-worthy performance. “Oh how utterly romantic!” She continued, swaying her body side to side like the weight of it was too much. “If a man sent me something like that, oh! Oh I don’t know! I might just completely– ”

“Oh fuck! Okay!!” He shouted. “I get it so just shut up!”

Michelle smirked, watched him storm off deeper into the boutique, and feeling rather proud of herself, left to change out of her dress.

The errand of finding a suit was left for the attendant that stalked after Chase since he could hardly bring himself to care. Chase didn’t know what it was, the atmosphere or the thoughts that had plagued his mind only a moment before, but he felt on edge and particularly volatile. Even the tender movements of the female attendant as she moved around to get his measurements made him grind his teeth in irritation. He had no idea why he had to do this. It wasn’t like there was ever going to be a possibility where he would marry Krislynn so why go through all this trouble? What was the point?

He sighed, did as he was dictated, but all aggravation left him the moment Krislynn walked out of the dressing room with her head lowered in embarrassment. Chase stopped, watched her carefully as she took small strides toward him, only meeting his gaze once to show him how hot her cheeks had become. They had done her makeup simple, and with the short amount of time they had, curled pieces of her hair before pining half of it up, slipping a small crystal tiara on the top of her head after as the finishing touch.

Once such an ordinary gown on Michelle now seemed to ravish Chase with simplistic splendour on Krislynn. She was naturally beautiful and the person would have to be a complete fool not to take notice in that. Smiling slightly, he reached out for her hand and she took it shyly. “I look weird in this, don’t I?” She murmured.

“It’s fine,” he said, and unbeknownst to the blushing girl beside him, the words were more meant for him than for her.

And it was fine, he decided. He had no idea what was going to happen in the future and he had no idea who was going to wait for Krislynn at the end of the aisle one day, but none of that seemed to matter to him as he led her in front of the photographer and felt every eye in the room on the both of them. All that matter was that at this moment, at this place, Krislynn was the bride and Krislynn was his.
