Golden Touch
I was mad. Why did he have to go? Why would just leave?
It's my fault, isn't it.
CJ has to remind me to eat so I don't starve. I haven't been attending school for the past three months. Not that it matters. The absence letters keep comming, but I throw them away. Burn them like junkmail.
Mrs. Razeus has been so nice to me it hurts. I haven't the heart to tell her to stop. Or any heart at all. Just the crumbling leftovers.
There was a knock on the door. I lazily open it, turning the creaking knob. It's a member of the court. "Skylar, the Emperor would like to see you."
My hand ignores hers. I leave without saying goodbye.
As I enter the palace, I feel something. I'd forgotten how beautiful it was. It seemed so dull now. The golden touch is a curse. I want to write a peom.
Fleur d'or
Soleil d'Or.
Couronne dorée.
royaume d'or.
Tout ce qu'il touche
Il se tourne vers l'or.
The Emperor stands from his thrown. I bow. He kneels down to me, so his eyes match my height. "Skylar, I know you are going through such a rough time. But I would like you to be my translator."
I am still as a mouse. The little mouse wants to run away from the cat, but is caught by its tail. "It's what your father would've wanted?"
I do not know why I believed him. It wasn't from ignorance, or stupidity. I had surely remember overhearing their conversation many months ago. It was from a lack of knowledge. I had been I'll informed. My father had protected me from the evils of this world. I had grown up believing the world was filled with only good. There was a small voice inside me.
Don't do it. Somethings wrong.
I did not listen. I was emotionally unstable, and depressed. So much so, that my eyes had slowly become a dark hazel blue.
"I accept, your majesty."
