Chapter Twenty-Seven
Oriel watched Tassian's eyes turn dark before turning around to face Dyso. She placed a hand on his back and stepped around him. "What do you want, Dyso?"
Dyso glared at Tassian and his jaw clenched when Tassian licked his lips. "I'm warning you, Tassian." Dyso's voice was low and dangerous. "I'd stop touching her."
Oriel had to step in front of Tassian to keep him from attacking him. "You're warning me, Dyso?" he growled. His wings ruffled behind him.
Oriel splayed her fingers out, ready to control the elements around her. She had been working on getting permission from every element, except for fire. That element was stubborn, refusing her to work with it.
Dyso clenched his hands at his sides. "You don't deserve her, Tassian." He ignored the growl that came out of Tassian's mouth and turned his attention to Oriel. "You deserve someone who worships the ground that you walk on. Every day."
Oriel rolled her eyes at him. The rain started to pour around them. "I'm getting tired of this, Dyso. You're obsessed."
"Like any man who loves you should be," he started to move towards her but stopped as Tassian whipped out both of his swords and held them out on either side of her. He held up his hands and smirked at them. "You don't understand, Oriel. You are mine. You just don't know it yet, but soon you will."
"I'm not your's Dyso," Oriel rolled her eyes. Her head was starting to get fuzzy, but she tried to push the feeling down. "You need to get over me, Dyso. I will never belong to you. I will never be by your side. You need to understand that."
Dyso's smirk grew as he continued to look at her. "Maybe if Tassian was out of the picture, you would submit to me." His hands were outstretched on either side of him and Xara and the weird-looking lizard man came out of the shadows behind him. Xara's eyes were cold as she stared at them. The lizard-looking man's eyes began to glow as he looked over at Oriel.
Oriel's head started to get even fuzzier as she stared into his eyes. Her head started to spin and she tried to look away, but she couldn't. It felt as if he was trying to control her head and her body. She leaned back against Tassian and he quickly wrapped an arm around her waist.
"Oriel," he hissed in her ear. "What's going on."
"It's him," her voice squeaked out. She managed to point in the direction of the lizard man. "He's the one who's trying to control me."
"And I'm succeeding," his deep voice rumbled in her head, even though his mouth was moving as well. The man held out his hand and Oriel's feet started to move on their own.
Tassian gripped her waist even harder as he growled at the man. "Let her go."
The man just smirked even more. "I can't do that, I'm sorry." Oriel knew that he wasn't sorry. She knew that he was enjoying this. She could feel his satisfaction as he watched her break and obey him. He spun his hand around and lowered her fingers.
Oriel, not in control of her movements, grabbed ahold of Tassian's wrist and spun out of his grip, pinning his arm at a weird angle behind his back. She opened her mouth to call out to him, but the only sound that would come out were little squeaks.
Tassian growled as she pinned his arms tighter against his back. He wasn't going to fight against her. She knew that he wouldn't, but she wished he did. Maybe then, he could help her get out of whatever was happening to her body. "Fight it, Eagle," he called out to her. "I know you can fight him. You're stronger than he is, remember that." He spun around and easily got out of her grip. He used his wings to propel him at a good distance away from her, landing in a fighting stance.
Xara giggled as she walked over to Oriel's side. She leaned forward and whispered in her ear. "Kill him, our pet."
Oriel felt her arms lift and grip her swords, pulling them out of their sheaths. She gave Tassian a pleading look for help as Xara pushed her towards him. "Kill him. Show him who you truly belong to."
Tassian met her swords with his, blocking them in an 'x' formation. "Please, Eagle," he grunted as he pushed her off. He blocked her strike again as it came towards his exposed side. "Fight him."
Oriel grit her teeth as she tried to push the man's grip out of her head. "Fuck," she groaned. "I'm fucking trying." Her feet raced towards Tassian and went to stab his chest. He was quicker than her and moved her sword to the side. He winced as the sword barely missed his arm and sliced through his shirt, cutting into him.
Blood trickled down her sword. She stared at it as it moved down, closer to her hand. That was his blood. She just cut him. Her feet were still trying to move against her will, but she was done with this. She just hurt the man that she loved. Oriel closed her eyes and started to control her breathing.
They wanted blood. They wanted Tassian's blood and they got it, but they weren't satisfied with that. They wanted him dead. She wasn't going to let that happen. She tried to move her legs further away from Tassian, but they wouldn't move.
"Eagle," she heard Tassian call out to her. His voice was soft as it reached her ears. "Fight him. I know you can. I love you, Eagle." She could have sworn that his voice cracked. "Fight him."
Oriel opened her eyes and looked at Tassian. He was standing across from her, ready for any kind of attack from her. She snapped her eyes over to the lizard-looking man standing in the corner of her vision. She needed to catch him off guard. If she could just control an inch of her body, she might be able to surprise him enough to get him to release her entirely.
She knew what she had to do to surprise him, and it was going to hurt. Horribly. Oriel looked back over at Tassian and tried to open her mouth to talk to him, but only squeaks came out again. Her hands squeezed her swords as she strained to move her arms. She tried to move her wings, but they wouldn't move.
That man had complete control over her wings and she hated it. Her arms moved just slightly. She was gaining control slowly. She kept her eyes on Tassian as she worked to move her arms. He finally noticed what she was doing and snapped his head over to the man controlling her. His eyes turned cold and dark as his wings splayed out on either side of them. He had a very large wingspan that she loved.
Tassian rose off of the ground and started to fly towards the man. He turned his attention to Tassian for just a second, letting Oriel have control over her arms. She took that opportunity to shove her arms behind her back and slice her swords upward.
A scream came out of her mouth as white, blinding pain shot through her body. Everyone stopped and looked over at her. Tears flowed down her face as she dropped to her knees. She heard her name in a roar from somewhere beside her, but she couldn't open her eyes. She was in so much pain, but it worked. She felt her mind being released as well as the rest of her body. She felt something hot stream down her back. Her body was working hard to heal the wound she inflicted on herself, but it was going to take longer than she wanted. She was going to be in pain for a long time. She knew it.
Oriel didn't know how long she sat there until she felt a pair of hands on her shoulders. She opened her eyes to see Tassian on his knees in front of her. Blood streaked across his face and she hoped that that blood wasn't his. His eyes were filled with worry and despair.
Tassian cupped her face in his hands and pressed his forehead against hers. "What did you do, Eagle?" his voice was barely above a whisper.
"It worked," Oriel croaked out. Her body felt extremely weak but free. She finally felt free again. Out of instinct, she tried to move her wings, but another blinding pain went through her body as her torn muscles moved. She screamed again as her body went limp.
Tassian wrapped his arms around her quickly and held her. He stood up and flew back to the tower. Oriel rested her head against the crook of his neck and breathed in his scent. His smell always calmed her and it was working now. She was able to concentrate on his smell instead of her pain.
It wasn't long until they landed in front of the tower doors and Tassian barged into them. Oriel heard a scream and Borus' voice exclaiming, "What the hell happened?" Her eyes were still closed as she heard plates scatter and felt Tassian lay her down on a table. He laid her down so she was on her stomach.
"Oriel," she heard Draya's voice crack somewhere in front of her. She opened her eyes and met Draya's. Tears were in her eyes as she reached out and started to stroke Oriel's hair, tucking pieces behind her ears. "My daughter," she croaked. "What happened?"
Oriel opened her mouth to replay when she felt her back being touched and she yelped in pain. "I'm sorry, Eagle," she heard Tassian say to her quickly. "Your back needs to be wrapped."
Oriel nodded and closed her eyes tight as he worked as gently as he could at wrapping her back. The bleeding would then stop once she was completely wrapped and the healing process would officially be able to begin. She felt tired. Exhausted. All she wanted to do now was sleep. She wanted to sleep for a very long time.
"Tassian," Draya started, not taking her eyes off of Oriel. "What happened?"
Tassian moved from her side to kneel in front of her beside Draya. He reached forward and grabbed onto her hand, squeezing it gently. "I'll explain later, Draya," He leaned forward and placed a kiss on her forehead. "She needs to rest first."
