The First Road To Independence
*The picture that I drew above is Glory's best friends, Harriet and Zara^*
The next day later, it was morning. I rise from my bed and yawned. Then I glanced at the window to see the cherry blossoms blooming in the morning as ever. Witnessing the blooming blossoms, I crept a warm smile.
"Well, at least I get to see the nice view outside in the morning." I giggled softly as I let out a sigh and scratched the back of my head.
"Better get ready for school," I told myself as I got out from my bed, I grabbed my red crop top, black spandex pants, leather jacket, black bra, and red panty from my drawer. Afterward, I left my room to take shower in the bathroom.
While in the bathroom, I pull up my phone and connect my phone to the speaker as I crank up the volume where the song "When Will My Life Begin" by Mandy Moore from one of my favorite Disney movies, Tangled. As soon as the guitar solo began, I soon took off my clothes and pull up the curtains. Then I step into the shower and turn on the switch where I began singing.
Seven a.m., the usual morning lineup
Start on the chores and sweep 'till the floor's all clean
Polish and wax, do laundry, and mop and shine up
Sweep again, and by then it's like 7:15
And so I'll read a book
Or maybe two or three
I'll add a few new paintings to my gallery
I'll play guitar and knit
And cook and basically
Just wonder when will my life begin?
Then after lunch, it's puzzles and darts and baking
Paper mache, a bit of ballet and chess
Pottery and ventriloquy, candle making
Then I'll stretch, maybe sketch, take a climb
Sew a dress!
And I'll reread the books
If I have time to spare
I'll paint the walls some more
I'm sure there's a room somewhere
And then I'll brush and brush
And brush and brush my hair
Stuck in the same place I've always been
And I'll keep wanderin' and wanderin'
And wanderin' and wonderin'
When will my life begin?
And tomorrow night
The lights will appear
Just like they do on my birthday each year
What is it like
Out there where they glow?
Now that I'm older
Mother might just
Let me go.~
I harmonized as I turned off the shower and swiped down the curtains when I grab the nearby towel and wrap it around my body. Then I sighed and smiled.
"What a wonderful day to start my day with one of my favorite Disney songs from one of my favorite Disney movies." I chirped as I tucked my hair to my left ear.
"Now to prepare for the day!" I cheered as I prepare to blow dry my hair to putting on my clothes.
Once I'm fully dressed, I left the bathroom and head downstairs to the kitchen where I saw my mom frying sunny side eggs and bacon on the stove.
"Morning mom." I yawned.
"Morning sweetie, sleep well?" She asked curiously.
"Yeah, I did," I replied with a grin as I walked to my seat and I pull out my phone to delete all pictures of me and my ex that I forgot to do yesterday.
"And done," I said as I laid my phone down on the table. Then my mom set the plate and a glass of orange juice in front of me.
"So any plans today after school?" She asked curiously.
"Hmm not really, Zara is babysitting her little sister and Harriet is probably going to the gym after school so I'm just going home and chill," I told her.
"Aww I liked them, they reminded me of my old friends back in high school." She stated.
"I know, they're pretty cool," I said. I intertwined my hands as I look back at the dream and the same glowing flower in our backyard that I saw last night before I opened my mouth and asked her this.
"Hey mom, do you remember the glowing flower that I saw when I was four?" I asked curiously. My mom squinted her eyes a little while smiling before she nodded at me.
"I do, why do you ask?" She asked curiously looking a bit tense for some reason. I curled my brows at my mom.
"You ok mom?" I asked curiously as she lightly shook her head and smiled softly.
"No no. I'm good, sweetie. It's just...it's been a while that I remembered this, but why did you bring that up?" She asked curiously.
"Well, that's the thing. I saw the same glow from last night and since I'm grown up, I think it's time for you to tell me about the glow that I saw as a child and from last night." I suggested as I witnessed my mom straightening her lips and bit her lip.
"Sweetie, I-."
As soon as my mom was about to say something, a yawn came from the kitchen where we both turned our heads to see my sleepy dad yawning as he staggered through the stairs.
"What a nap..." He yawned as he saunters to me and my mom.
"Morning Bedhead." My mom playfully greeted me.
"Morning dad." I greeted.
"Morning dear, morning Baby Cake." He replied as he ruffles my hair where I let out a giggle.
"Slept well dad?" I asked with a grin and he nodded.
"Mhm I sure did and what's for breakfast Francine?" He asked curiously.
"Just made some sunny side eggs with bacon." She told him.
"Aah, you know how to make food so delicious Fran!" He gleed as he wraps his strong arms around my mom where she erupted a chortle.
"You always love my food!" She giggled as she ruffled my dad's dark hair. I giggled at their cute banter before I glanced at the clock to see I'm late.
"Sh*t I'm late!" I gasped as I quickly gobbled up my breakfast and sprung off from the chair.
"Gotta go guys! Love you!" I said kissing both of them on the cheeks and I quickly bolted out of the door.
"See you, Glor!" My dad yelled.
"Have a nice day sweetie." She told me.

Two hours later after I arrived at school, I can't stop thinking about that dream I saw last night and the same glowing flower from my childhood. Most importantly my conversation with my mom.
I can't get that weird dream out of my head about the first scene from Tangled...
I thought as she placed her hand under her chin pondering deeply about the flower.
I love Tangled and all, but why was I dreaming about Tangled?
I thought as I was strolling through the halls, a classmate rudely bumped into me.
"Oops, sorry Mini Gothel." She half-heartedly apologized as the girl next to her sniggered while walking past me with stupid annoying grins on their faces, but I rolled my eyes and kept sauntering through the halls ignoring the whispers from the other students.
Jeez, this doesn't take me back to my horrendous elementary school days AT ALL.
I sarcastically thought while through the hallway until I heard that recognizable shouting from afar.
"CINDERELLA!!!"
Soon I was tackled by my cheery brunette bestie of mine where I yelped and turned my head to her.
"Harriet! You scare the sh#t out of me!!" I shrieked as she chuckled and beamed brightly.
"Sorry, Cinderella! I was so happy that we're all graduating from Belle Haven High School!!" She chirped. Soon, Harriet was pulled away by my other bestie of mine, Zara.
"Harriet, calm down. We only have two days until school ends." She reminded her.
"Yeah, yeah. Sorry!" She apologized while scratching the back of her head with a grin. Zara sighed, lightly shaking her head, and turned to me with a small grin.
"Morning, Glo." She greeted kindly.
"Hey, Zara. Is your baby sister doing well?" I asked as she bobbed her head and adjusts her glasses.
"She is. She was crying a bit cuz she got mashed peas all over her stuffed twilight sparkle plushie, but things turned out ok. I managed to clean up the plushie before she goes to bed." Zara said and I smiled warmly.
"Seems like you're managing well with your little sister," I remarked and she shrugged nonchalantly.
"It's an older sibling's job to take care of their younger siblings. So you gotta be careful on their needs, their likes, and dislikes when babysitting." She advised and I nodded at her.
"Right." I agreed.
"#MamaZara!" Harriet teased making her sigh.
"I thought we agree to drop the hashtag crap. It's so 2012." She remarked as Harriet chuckled.
"Still tho. You're like the best super mom in our group! It makes you a good person." She praised with a sunny smile and Zara couldn't help but smile warmly at her extroverted friend.
"I can take that as a compliment." She said and I giggled at their typical banter.
"Wanna go chat to my locker?" I asked and they both nodded.
"Sure!" Harriet chirped.
"Yeah." Zara calmly replied.
Meanwhile, at my locker, I was chatting with Zara and Harriet about our plans for the summer.
"So any game plans for this awesome summer?" Harriet asked.
"I'm going to be out of town for next month. My parents are visiting my aunt in France." Zara told them.
"Aww yeah, France is a great place. They have great food and desserts!" My brunette friend cheered, but Zara sticks her tongue.
"Bleh I don't like sweets and it's expensive as well." My bespectacled pink-haired friend gagged.
"Eh whatever floats ya boat. How about you Glor?" Harriet asked curiously.
"Hmm since I'm a free woman now, I think I'm going to relax at home and maybe I could go shopping to buy some clothes for college just to upgrade my style," I told them.
"That seems like a good choice, you always need to upgrade yourself before entering the big world," Zara assured.
"Very truaaaaahhhh god." Harriet soon let out a groan when her face turns from a smile to a frown making us confused.
"What's wrong?" I asked looking puzzled.
"Ugh don't look now Cinderella, but here comes prince ex charming." She warned making both me and Zara grimaced as I spun to see my ex Marc approaching me.
"Hey Prin-"
"Don't call me that, we're not dating anymore." I cut him off with a blunt tone.
"No, please! I can explain!" He pleaded.
"Explain what? That you were f*#cking some bitch in your house yesterday? Because let me tell you, I want nothing to do with you." I directly stated.
"Look I know what I did was f@*ked up. I think it's incredibly stupid of me to do something like that and I promise you I won't do that again." He reassured.
"Oh, ya think?" Harriet asked sarcastically.
"Ssh." Zara shushed Harriet as she let out a grumble and crosses her arms.
"Incredibly stupid indeed, but how am I supposed to know that you're sincere with your own words?" I questioned him curling my brows.
"Gloriane please, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...it was a mistake." He begged, but I couldn't take it.
"MISTAKE MY ASS!" I bellowed causing to gain the attention of the whole student body to turn and stare at me, but I didn't care at this point.
"All I did was showering you with love and care but THIS is what I get in return?! Don't bullsh*t my boi! How could you do this to me?! Am I not worthy enough for you?!?" I yelled as tears start to swell from my eyes. Soon everybody started murmuring and whispering about what's happening.
"I'm sorry! Please give me a chance Glor! Don't cut me off from your life! I always loved you! I do! You're the apple of my beautiful eyes!" He begged but I didn't buy it and neither does my friends.
"Then who's the girl your with huh? How long you've been seeing her?" I inquired with Marc stood there silent as he averts his eyes with a guilty look, but I squint my eyes showing that I mean business.
"Marc, please answer my question." I politely asked while feeling my patience running low.
"Listen Glo. How about we just get back together and start things from square o-."
"Cut the sh*t, Marc. How long have you been seeing her?" I asked again gritted my teeth giving him a hint that I am not in the mood for his games.
"Uhhh...." He utters nervously averting his eyes that make my blood boil. At this point, my patience has run low and I lost my cool for a second.
"ANSWER ME MARC!!!" I snapped, making him flinched.
"Okay! Fine! ...About two weeks I guess?" He told her shocking me and my besties including the crowd.
"No..." Zara gasped covering her mouth with her hand and her eyes widened in astonishment.
"Are you fucking for real?" Harriet growls clenching her fists right ready to punch him in the face.
"You've been cheating on me for half a month?!" I bellowed with eyes blazing with rage, frightening him, and waves his hands at me looking scared.
"Yeah, but it wasn't like that! She was a next-door neighbor of mine. She moved in next to us not too long ago and we started to bond, but it got to the point where I started developing an infatuation for her during our study lessons together. I tried to resist her, but my goddamn hormones took over and I ended up doing it." He explained causing the whole crowd to gasped from the shocking reveal.
"Aah haha, what?" Harriet asked in disbelief after letting out a fake laugh with her face contorting with a murderous glare like she's about to beat his ass.
"Marc, did you say the reason why you cheat on Glory last night was that you couldn't keep your d*ck inside when your around this girl?" Zara asked skeptically creasing her brows at his stupidity. Marc sweatdrops with a stupid look on his face.
"Uhhhhh..." He uttered while trying to think of an excuse for his actions.
"Dude, I'm pretty sure EVERYBODY knows how to control their hormones these days. I don't understand why you think it's okay for you to do this to your longtime girlfriend!" I barked glaring at him and this made him snap for sure, but his words caught me, guard when he said this.
"Well if you weren't to push me away from trying to have sex with you three weeks ago BEFORE the final exams, then maybe this wouldn't happen." He grumbled but instantly regret his words when Marc widens his eyes accidentally exposing himself in front of everyone in the hallway where my besties and I heard a word he said coming from his mouth.
"I beg your pardon?" I asked in disbelief.
"Wait, that didn't come out right-!"
"Oh no, I heard EVERY SINGLE WORD coming out from that mouth of yours. You're saying you cheated on me because we didn't have sex?! You knew I wasn't ready back then, yet you dare to cheat on me behind my back?!" I scolded while my face turns red out of pure anger.
"That was last month ago! Sure I was a bit bitter about it, but now it's over! I don't m-!" I didn't want to listen to his bullsh#t so I kicked him in the balls so hard causing Marc to fell to his knees holding his crouch while in pain. Harriet soon burst out of laughter along with the rest of the students while Zara is holding back her laughter, but I can hear her chortled next to me.
"Yeah suck it boi, you just got pwned!" Harriet taunted flipping the middle finger at him.
"Ok I have to admit, but that was pretty hilarious." Zara snickered while covering her handshaking from the laughter that she's trying to suppress.
"Owwww oh oh, my crouch!" He yelped while everyone laughed at his misfortune.
"You deserve it!" I retorted not caring if I hurt him cuz he FUCKING deserves it. But soon...
"What's the meaning of this?!" Soon the laughter died when two teachers pushed through the crowd to see me and Marc.
"Ms. Corbett, what on earth are you doing with Marc?!" Mrs. Wester snapped.
"Crap..." I muttered when the teachers came into the scene.
"Gloriane Corbett and Marc Steward, come to my office immediately." Principal Tremblay commanded where this day is going to be the worst.
