Prologue 8: Mother Knows Best

"Mmm...Huh?"

I slowly rise to find myself dreaming about the same tower again and who do I see in my third dream? Yup, mother Gothel herself. As I saw her and Rapunzel, Gothel approaches the window while staring at the poor trapped princess.

"You want to you outside? Oh, why Rapunzel..." She then shuts the window and skips to Rapunzel with a fake smile and twirls her around.

"Look at you, as fragile as a flower
Still a sapling, just a sprout
You know why we stay up in this tower~"

"I know bu-"

"That's right, to keep you safe and sound, dear." She reassured me while caressing her long blonde hair next to her face as I stood there glaring at the manipulative witch. I watched her strutted through the halls to the colored window.

"Guess I always knew this day was coming." She said as she closed the curtains.

"Knew that soon you'd want to leave the nest." She sang as she climbs up the stairs.

"Soon but not yet."

"But-"

"Shh, trust me, pet
Mother...knows...best." She sang making my blood boiled.

"Seriously? She just called her pet? What "mother" would say that to their "child"?" I muttered as I glare at the selfish and vain hag where she swung her hips as everything went dark in the room. Then I saw Rapunzel lighting up the room with candles while Gothel was singing.

"Mother knows best
Listen to your mother
It's a scary world out there~"

"Aah!" Rapunzel yelped when Gothel scared her in the dark. Soon Rapunzel turned around when she felt something grabbing her hair. Then she fell, but Gothel grabbed her on time while singing.

"Mother knows best
One way or another
Something will go wrong, I swear~"

She sang as Gothel dropped Rapunzel to the ground, Gothel then starts scaring the poor blonde princess with outlandish props.

"Ruffians, thugs
Poison ivy, quicksand
Cannibals and snakes, the plague~"

"No!" Me and Rapunzel shouted.

"Yes!" Gothel reassured with an amount of glee.

"Also large bugs."

Seriously?

I thought while staring at her with a blank look just how ridiculous she's being.

"Men with pointy teeth and stop, no more, you'll just upset me." She cried looking distressed, but I can tell she's faking it since she's being a manipulative witch at this point. As I watched Rapunzel hide with her long hair, Gothel pulled her back up to her feet while sang that godawful song.

"Mother's right here
Mother will protect you
Darling, here's what I suggest..."

Soon she disappears and we both turned to see Gothel stepping downstairs with candles lighting up as she sings.

"Skip the drama
Stay with mama
Mother knows best."

She then chuckled as she pulled out the candles with her black cloak. While Rapunzel lights the candles with a match, Gothel flicks the flame from the candles as she sings and emotionally abusing Rapunzel.

"Mother knows best
Take it from your mumsy
On your own, you won't survive~"

She coldly sang where I watched poor Rapunzel trembling in fear as she turns to the mirror before Gothel peers behind the mirror.

"Sloppy, under-dressed
Immature, clumsy
Please, they'll eat you up alive!" She marveled as she rolls Rapunzel up with her long blonde hair.

"Gullible, naive
Positively grubby
Ditzy and a bit, well, hmm, vague."

"Oh come on!" I cursed her out fuming with anger just hearing her singing such bullsh#t to Rapunzel.

"Plus, I believe
Gettin' kinda chubby
I'm just saying 'cause I love you~" She cooed as she hugs her tight, but I just stood there rolling my eyes at her.

"Yeah right," I grumbled with my arms crossed.

"Mother understands."

"Lie." I retorted.

"Mother's here to help you."

"Double lie." I barked back. As everything went dark again until a light appeared before Gothel as she opens her arms with a song.

"All I have is one request~" She marveled as she opens her arms to Rapunzel with a fake warm smile as Rapunzel smiled in relief. She then ran to Gothel and embraced her with a tight embrace.

"Rapunzel?"

"Yes?"

"Don't ever ask to leave this tower again." She demanded with a callous tone.

"Yes, mother." She replied with a despondent tone making my heart crumbled while watching her get emotionally abused by this selfish hag.

"I love you very much, dear." She said and Rapunzel smiled.

"I love you more," Rapunzel replied.

"I love you most, hmm." She assured me as she kisses the top of her head.

"Don't you forget it
You'll regret it
Mother knows best."

Gothel sang as she tucks her hair back where I watched her walk backward disappearing from the dark leaving Rapunzel dejected.

"Rapunzel, I'll see you in a bit." She reassured while climbing down from Rapunzel's long hair. As everything in this dream disappeared, I stood there confused and crestfallen.

Poor girl...I feel bad, but...What does this dream mean? Why am I brought here?

I thought curiously with questions swirling around my mind, but my train of thought was interrupted when I heard a fainted giggle.

"Don't runway my blood..."

I gasped and I slowly became guarded as I carefully glance left and right wondering where that sound is coming from. Soon I felt shivers down to when I felt someone grabbing my right shoulder.

"Found you... the blood of my soul.~"

I shivered as I slowly spun my head where I flinched when a monstrous version of Gothel began screeching to my face as I screamed.

"AAAAAAHHHH!!!" I shrilled on top of my lungs that it woke Grim up and fell to the ground. I soon gasped when I realized I'm back in reality.

"Oh thank god...it was a dream," I mumbled while pinching my forehead. Soon I felt Grim climbing back to my bed with a frown.

"Hey! What's with the screaming? You just ruined my sleep!" He grumbled with an irritable frown.

"Oh hey, Grim..." I casually greeted him.

Jeez, I forgot about yesterday...damn, this is by far the worst dream I ever had.

I thought while feeling groggy.

"Don't "hey Grim" me! I was having the best dream ever and-"

"Hihhihih don't you two have to clean up the school?" Langston cheekily asks.

"Eh?" We both paused when we recognized that voice from anywhere.

"If you keep being so lazy like that, maybe one day you'll never wake up again." Chauncey teased.

"Just like us! Ihihihih!" Hendrix chimed as the three chuckled.

"Are you serious?!" I cursed to see these three ghostly punks again.

"Gya! You ghosts again?! Hey henchman, let's beat them!" He demanded causing a red vein to pop from my head.

"Excuse me?.." I grumbled.

"You heard me! Now help me out!" He shouted.

"Ugh fine, but only if you don't call me that!" I stated.

"Just shut up and help me human!" He demanded.

"Yeah, yeah," I grumbled as I got up from my bed where we both faced these three ghosts for the last time.
