Episode 1-10: Chesnut Hunt

Meanwhile at Crowley's office, things were pretty awkward when the headmaster has this serious look making Glory unease.

"A student told me, you were caught up in a brawl with two students in the cafeteria few minutes ago. Care to explain why?" Crowley asks curiously.

"There were interrogating Grim, sir. They were forcing him to give up his lunch and I wasn't going to stand for it, so I stood up for him and that's when the fight happened." She told him.

"Not only that, but you use your magic on a student." Merlin points out.

"How did you- wait. Oh, right. Crystal ball, got it." She quickly understood making the tiny wizard chortle. Soon she heard Crowley letting out a sigh.

"Though I do understand your intentions, fighting with another student isn't an excuse." Crowley informed and Glory sigh.

"I know." She nods.

Jesus, this takes me back when I was brought to the principal's office for the first time kicking my ex in the balls.

She pondered, but soon snickers softly at that memory.

But hey, it's worth the payback.

Glory thought as she snickers under her breath. Crowley then clears his throat.

"However, since this is your first day in school. I will not punish you. So, I'm letting you off the hook this time since I, myself, am kind. IF you promise me not to get into brawls again, understood?" He reminds her and she sighs and nods.

"Yes sir." She replies.

"And we also need to work on your magic since you're still inexperienced. But first, we need to go to the library to find research on how to get yourself back home." Merlin suggests and she nods.

"Well now that's out of the way, you may now be dismissed and remember our deal Miss Corbett." He reminded her.

"Yes sir, I promise I won't." She replied.

But I feel like I'm going to get myself into trouble during my time here....

She thought skeptically feeling like she's going to be trouble lurking around in Night Raven anytime soon.

"Very good, now dismissed!" He said as Glory and Merlin left his office and head to the library to do some research. While I'm the library, There's something bothering the young ravenette where questions starts to float in her mind. Curious, she turns to Merlin.

"Hey Merlin, I need to ask you something." Glory said.

"Ask away, my sundrop." Merlin replies. Glory stares down at the floor for a minute while gripping her left wrist before staring back at her mentor.

"Why do I have this power?" Glory asks curiously. Merlin then slides the book back and strolls to the table. He pulls the chair out and sat down.

"Please be seated." He instructs as she nods and walks to Merlin where she pulls out a chair and sat with him.

"Allow me to explain the story, Ahem." Merlin clears his throat and takes a deep breath as he begins telling the story.

"A long time ago, a cosmic event created a single drop of sunlight, which fell "from the heavens" and grew the golden flower. It had the ability to heal any sickness or injuries, mortal wounds, as well as delay aging. Gothel is the first woman to discover the sundrop flower. Gothel was a witch who was known for her theatrical flair, often flaunting her beauty and curvaceous appearance with much enthusiasm and dramatics. She happens to be stage actress and performer which makes her an intelligent yet dangerous manipulator. Gothel was enjoying her glamorous life until everything changed when she was forced to retired due to her aging. In fact, Gothel rather lives beautifully than dying from an old age. That is when Gothel discovers the sundrop flower in Corona history.  She read that if one sang a chant, then one will revert back to their original youth. This had Gothel aching for that flower and began searching it. Once she found the flower, sang the chant, and it causes her to revert back to her youth." Merlin explains.

"She was afraid of death..." Glory assumes and Merlin nods at her.

"She was. In fact, Gothel was so enamored with her own youthful beauty that the sundrop flower became her top priority in her life whenever she feels the need to revert back to her old age. This leads to the point where she became neglectful, vain, and lazy towards her own daughter." Merlin states.

"You mean her biological daughter, right?" Glory asks.

"Correct, her name was Cassandra, but their relationship wasn't....positive. In fact, she absolutely despised her daughter. Not exactly sure why, but according to the assumptions, Gothel hated her daughter because she reminds of an old life she had with her former lover, who left her and her daughter after learning either her real age or that she was pregnant. I'm not exactly quite sure which, but it really took a toll on her self-image which explains her vanity and obsession of retaining her youth. So she could be loved and praised by other people." He explains more.

"So that's why she was so clung on to this flower she's been attached to..." Glory says.

"Indeed, however, her eternal youth was short lived when one of the guards from the kingdom of Corona found the flower and took it in for their ill queen that was soon given birth to a daughter who inherited the sundrop magic from the flower. But that doesn't mean she gives up. Gothel was desperate of keeping her youth, so she sneaks into the castle and abducted their daughter. She was soon caught by the rulers and they ordered the guards to capture her and reclaimed their stolen child, but Gothel was too quick-witted as she outsmarted the guards by hidden under the bushes and left with the child in her arms while the guard chased her down. And you knew what happens after that." Merlin informs making Glory tighten her fists.

"She...left her..." She stutters.

"Indeed she did. Once she abducted the infant princess of Corona, Gothel abandons Cassandra by cutting down the bridge and left with the baby with her, leaving the poor girl with the guards." Merlin explains. After he explains the whole story, Glory sat there silently as she slowly gather her thoughts together before replying.

"While I do get her reason, it doesn't excuse her own actions. Sure I understand what is like to be afraid of death, but you just can't avoid death. It's inevitable. It's unpredictable. It's how life is." Glory states it.

"Aah, but that's when you're wrong about that young sundrop. Right after she abandoned her biological daughter, she raised the abducted child as her own where she taught the young captive girl to sing the chant so she remains youthful. Though, she wasn't a good mother to begin with. Gothel posed as this kind, nurturing, but disturbingly overprotective mother to the young princess. Whenever the captive princess begged the crone to go outside, Gothel has her own way to increase her dependency. Though she was still extremely abusive despite her caring façade where she would constantly insulted Rapunzel, purposely lowers her self-esteem, avoids familial contact with the princess, and riles up her anxiety with warnings of exaggerated dangers she could run into if she'd ever leave, all for her own selfish gain. While furthering her dependency on her with gifts and food, posing as Rapunzel's only protector in a vicious and unforgiving world. Her main tactic was victimization, where she would blame Rapunzel for any sort of conflict or unfortunate event that befalls their lives and relationship." Merlin informs. Glory wasn't surprised as her face become blank when hearing more of her history.

"Jeez, what a great mother she was." She sarcastically says.

"That's exactly the whole point Gloriane. Gothel cares and loves Rapunzel, but in a twisted and cruel way. The only reason why she loved Rapunzel is because of her hair possesses the sundrop flower." Merlin says.

"And that's exactly what she was doing: exploitation." Glory points out.

"Yes, but the captive princess was persistent on entering the outside world. Her life turned upside down when she met and fell in love with a thief who intruded her tower. Out of curiosity, she begged the young thief to take her to the outside and he did. The princess was fascinated with everything around her from the trees, bushes, rivers, the pub thugs, and most importantly, the stars. She soon slowly fell in love with the lovable thief until it was short lived when Gothel found out her escape. She searched relentlessly for her; going far as harming those who stand in her way. Once she found Rapunzel, she took her away only to be caught off guard when Gothel discovered that she found out about her heritage. She was the lost princess. Not wanting her to leave, she traps Rapunzel and used her as bait to lure the thief that tried rescuing her. Once arrived, Gothel stabbed him while dragging poor Rapunzel in the basement to lock her up forever, but she was too late. The princess tricked Gothel into agreeing to leave if she heals the thief. She fell for it, and let's her go. She ran towards the man she loved, but thief had another plan in mind. Then it was his chance to defeat her by cutting off her long hair causing Gothel to lose her youth. Shocked and humiliated, Gothel blindly tripped and fell from the tower as she turns into dust. Afterwards, the thief returns with the lost princess and as a result, they got married and the princess was reunited with her real biological parents in Corona." Merlin narrated as Glory nods.

"Yeah, I'm glad she returned, but I felt bad. Her lover left her because of her age or pregancy, I couldn't imagine how hurt she felt. Maybe that's the reason why she's so clung on to that flower, she wants to loved." Glory assumes and Merlin shrugs.

"Who knows, Gothel's a mystery around Night Raven College." Merlin affirms.

"Is Gothel really that scary than Maleficent?" She asks curiously.

"Ooooh Sundrop, she and her are both completely different people despite their infamy. You heard of the tales of the Witch of Thorns, correct?" Merlin asks.

"Well I knew she's one of the most iconic villains out there, but here really?" She asks in disbelief.

"She's far more worst than that my sundrop. The Witch of Thorns is an evil fairy. In fact, she was incarnation of pure evil, and responsible for all misfortune in King Stefan's kingdom. Using the pretense of taking offense at not being invited to the christening of Princess Aurora by King Stefan and Queen Leah, she cursed the princess. And that's how she, the Witch of Thorns, became one of the Great Seven today." He informs causing Glory to tilt her head pondering about Maleficent and this 'Malleus' person.

That explains their fear. Hell, they're both similar in each and every way, but...I wonder. Why wasn't Malleus there at the entrance ceremony? Did the dorm leaders actually forgot about him or are they actually afraid of him? Surely, he's more than just intimidating right?

She ponders wondering about the mysterious absent dorm leader of Diasomnia. Then she Merlin sighing.

"Now you understand the story of Gothel, right?" He asks.

"Yes, but what does that have to do with me?" She asks still confused. Merlin grins and puts a hand on her shoulder.

"Sundrop. The golden flower has been passed on from generations. From Zhan Tiri, King Frederic, Queen Arianna, Varian, and most importantly Gothel. The golden flower has been considered to be the most powerful object in "the Seven Kingdoms" according to Corona's history. In the years after the flower was picked, the spot where the flower grows became a sacred and forbidden site, with a small pedestal in its place and large, indestructible thorn-like rocks surrounding it. Like the flower before them, these rocks have magical properties, as demonstrated when Rapunzel touches one of them and resulted in her previously long, magical golden locks to regrow, and in this case inheriting the rocks' indestructibility. According to the research of Lord Demanitus, the cosmic event that created the Sundrop also created a single drop of moonlight, which took the form of an opal. From this opal were the black rocks created."

"The Moonstone Opal..." Glory gasps.

"Indeed. The Moonstone Opal is a supremely powerful, ancient opal gem that had descended to Earth from a single drop of pure moonlight thousands of years ago. In contrast to the sundrop flower, the Moonstone Opal has destructive powers that cause death, ruin, and decay to those around it, enough to render an entire kingdom uninhabitable and devastated. However, it can also potentially be used for good, if wielded in tandem with the power of the Sundrop Flower by someone whose intentions are good. Like Rapunzel for example and later YOU." Merlin points out.

"So how do I find the moonstone?" Glory asks.

"I'm not exactly sure where it is, but when I do, I'll inform you. In the meantime, you're still inexperienced with your magic and for that we must head our way, so are you finished with your research?" He asks curiously.

"Mhm. Got all the books I need, let's check them out." Glory chirps and Merlin grins.

"That's the spirit. Off we go!" He chants as they all check out the books and head straight to the infirmary where Merlin tutors her to control her powers. It wasn't that long since they spend ten minutes. This time, she decides to sing the chant.

"So you're ready to sing?" Merlin asks.

"Yes, I'm still have stage fright, but I thought this though and I decided that I want to try this out..." Glory said.

"Hmmm very well, let's start with the top shall we?" Merlin suggests and she nod. Merlin than walks into a room and walk out with a wilted plant as he lay it on the table.

"Annnd go." He instructs and Glory nods as she begins to clear her throat before she starts chanting.

"Flower, gleam, glow~"

The wilted flower soon starts glowing.

"Yes my sundrop, be gentle." Merlin assures her.

"Let your power shine
Make the clock reverse
Bring back what once was mine~"

"Mmmm yes, yes, you're doing good sundrop, don't lose that harmony now." He reassures and Glory nods.

"Heal what has been hurt
Change the Fates design
Save that has been lost...
Bring back what once was mine~"

"Hold it..." Merlin says.

"..Now." He instructs as she sang the last key.

"What once was mine~"

As glory sang the last key of the chant, she opens her eyes to see the wilted flower reverts back to its blooming state. Merlin then applaud her and walks up to her with a proud smile.

"Well done Sundrop, that was the first step of your improvement. However, when you get home, I want you to practice your recitals for one hour, understood?" He informs and Glory nods with a smile.

"I will, but there's one thing I need to tell you."

"Hm? What's that?" Merlin asks as Glory told him about that vision that saw recently of Riddle's heart with a black hole.

"Huh, you don't say?" He inquires.

"Do you know what it is?" Glory asks curiously.

"Why yes, I do. That is an ability called "Corrupt Detection"." He said.

"Huh? Corrupt Detection?" She asks confusingly.

"Yes, but I've never seen a unique ability like this from a healer before." He states it.

"You mean I'm the first healer to have this ability?!" She asks in shock.

"I believe so, have you heard of overblot?" Merlin asks curiously.

"Overblot?" She tilts her head looking baffled.

"Yes, when someone possess such negative energy within their magic, their hearts grew dark and that is when their overblot unleashes." He explains.

"Damn...that explains why there's a black liquid dripping down on his heart." Glory understood.

"Indeed, but we can't discuss any loner. Right now I need to get this files to Crowley and you must return to your class stat." Merlin instructs and Glory nods.

"You're right. Thanks Merlin." She thanked.

"Anytime my sundrop, now go back to your class." Merlin instructs her.

"Mhm I'll see you tomorrow!" She said as she walks out to the door and left the infirmary.

Afterwards, Glory heads straight to the woods behind campus where she meets up with Grim and the others at the botanical garden just like Trey reminded her.

"Waaaaah! There's so many chestnuts all over the place! It's a forest of all you can eat Mont Blanc...Guugh." Grim cackles as he march up to the chestnut bush.

"Let's get picking!" Grim marvels as he grabs the prickly bush causing Glory to widen her eyes.

"Grim wai-"

"Owww! Ow! Ffgna!! The thorns pricked my paw!" Grim shrieks.

"I tried to warn you..." She sighs.

"We can't pick them up with bare hands, it'll also be good to get a basket or something to put them all in." Deuce suggests.

"The botanical garden probably has whatever we need inside." Ace points out.

"Let's go take a look." Deuce said as they all went to the botanical garden where Glory was awestruck by the beautiful scenery.

"OMG it looks so beautiful! This'll be a great place to take pictures!" She gleed.

"You sure love to take pictures do you?" Deuce asks curiously and Glory turns to him with a nod.

"I do! Photography is my favorite and I'm just so excited to be here!" Glory chirps with a huge grin.

"Wow, it's bigger in here than I thought. There should be a caretaker of this place. We should split up and find them." Deuce suggests.

"I'll go right." Ace said.

"And I'll head left. Grim and Glory-san, you guys can go straight to the back." Ace instructs as Glory nods.

"We'll meet you guys back." Glory said as they both nod and head their separate ways.

"There's a bunch of fruit! They smell so good!" Grim chirps with a grin.

"Don't come to me if you have a stomachache." Glory reminds him.

"I won't! I already told you before, my stomach can handle anything!" Grim retaliates. Glory rolls her eyes and grins.

"Sure..." She mumbles until she stops when she heard a low yelp. Glory widen her eyes when she heard a yelp.

Please tell me I didn't step on something...

She thought skeptically as Glory slowly looks down and realizes she step on...A TAIL?!

"Whoa!" Glory flinch and lift her foot when she realize she step on a tail.

"Oi. You've got some nerve stepping on someone's tail without saying anything." The scarred man points out. Glory widen her eyes when she recognized that scarred man from before. He's from the entrance ceremony!

"Are you the caretaker here? You seem like an impolite guy...." Grim asks.

"I don't think he's a caretaker Grim." She whispers.

"I was right in the middle of a nice nap, then you go and walk all over my tail. This sucks." The scarred man grumbles.

"Sorry about that." She apologizes, but then the scarred man took a minute to notice the girl and forms a smirk.

"You...aren't you that herbivore that the mirror said you have some power inside that you need to unlock and rumored to be the next Gothel? Hmmm..." He asks making Glory sigh when this was brought up again.

"This again?" She mumbles, but she was soon caught off guard when the scarred man went up and sniff her.

"What the-?!" Glory flinch and quickly push the scarred man away from her.

"...Ha. Looks like you've unlocked your power, but you're still inexperienced with it from what I sense. Furthermore..."

Soon Leona reached a hand to her face and softly caress her right cheek.

"Wha-? Hey!" Glory yelps when Leona suddenly lifts her chin to lion's mesmerizing green orbs.

"Ffgnya! We're so dead!" Grim shrieks witnessing the lion laying a hand on his henchman as Leona stared down at her for a minute.

"Your scent is quite different from hers despite looking like her..." He mutters as he turns her head a little while mesmerized by her scent.

"I smelled herbivores everyday in life, but you smelled different..." He murmurs while sniffing her as he sense a mixed fragrances of vanilla and a vintage sweet soft smell of lilac. He then unwraps his arm around her waist and crossed his arms.

"Gothel's blood or not, I don't feel like taking on an opponent that can't resist with a strong tempting scent." He boasts causing Glory to be ticked off by this lion prick.

"Excuse me?" She grumbles frowning at the rude scarred man with lion ears as he lets out a sigh and ruffles his long messy brown hair.

"Man, being scrutinized by this guy is making my fur stand on end." Grim whimpers while hiding behind her legs.

"I, Leona, can't just let you just walk away after stepping on my tail. I was having such a lovely nap..." Leona then turns back to the ravenette with aggravated green orbs. "And now I'm just pissed." He rudely sneers. Glory couldn't take this rude man anymore as she lightly smacks his hand away from her face and scowls at the arrogant lion straight on.

"Well excuse me for disturbing your sleep Scar, but it was an accident. I even said I was sorry." Glory snarks with a scowl, but the lion huffs.

"An apology won't cut it, you think you could just roam around scot free after stepping on my tail, herbivore?" Leona hissed pissing the young ravenette off even more.

"Like I said before, it was an accident." Glory retorts bluntly as she marches up to the scarred man while shooting daggers at him until she got close to his face.

"Second of all, this 'herbivore' you're talking to has a name, and her name is Gloriane Corbett, so get it right!" She snapped as she points her finger at the lion.

"Also learn this, Scar wannabe! We may have the same look, but we're two different people! I'm sorry that I disturb your sleep, but don't be such a dick to me Boi! Cuz I can assure you, I'm a boxer who doesn't hesitate to uppercut dickwads like you!" She seethes raising her fist at the scarred man, but he was not fazed as he laughs off her threats before smirking.

"So the herbivore has a feisty side huh? You got some nerve to go up against a predator like me." He remarks with a smug. A tick mark pops from her head as she clenched her fist.

"Boi, I swear- hm?" Glory then looks down to see Grim pulling her leg.

"Come on Glory, let's get outta here!" Grim plead.

"Grim-"

"Leona-san!"

Soon the tension stops when we heard a voice and they turn to see a young boy with ears of a hyena, light brown hair and grey eyes standing before him.

"Huh??" Leona turns to the young boy with hyena ears.

Hm? A hyena?

She thought curiously while staring at the short hyena.

"Ah, there you are. It's time for you remedial lessons, y'know." The light brunette boy chided.

"Ugghhh...The annoying one's here." He groans laying his head scrunching his brows.

"It's cause you keeping failing, Leona. If you keep getting held back we're gonna be classmates." He reminds him furrowing his brows with annoyance.

"Knock it off already, I don't need lectures from you." Leona grouse.

"I don't enjoy nagging you!" He retorts with an irritable frown.

"You'd have no prob if you just tried. Whatever, let's go!" He demands.

"Tsk..." Leona then turns to Glory and Grim with a scowl.

"Watch out next time you come onto my turf. Herbivores." He warns them, but Glory rolls her eyes.

"We'll do, Scar." She snark back making the lion gaze at her one last time before he turns his back and left along the short light brunette hyena.

"Ffgnaaa! I'm sweating bullets! What's with that intimidating caretaker?!" Grim shrills.

"He's a lion Grim, not a caretaker." She corrects him.

"We found a basket on tongs over there!" Ace yells.

"What? Really?" Glory turns to her two friends.

"Did something happen to you two?" Deuce asks as Glory sighs when he asks.

"Well-"

"Ah, that's right! The chestnuts! Our tart will get smaller if we don't get a brunch!" Grim panics.

"Crap, you're right! We'll talk about our encounter with lion boy while we work." She told Grim and he nods.
