Not Great Double Date
CJ, in storm cloud form, eats Sam. Sam then wakes up from his nightmare. He takes a deep breath, coughs, then takes out his retainer and puts it back in its case. He then rests his head on his pillow. A moment later, there's a soft knock at his bedroom door. He sits up again. "Come in..." he said. Eileen opens the door a crack. "Uh...Sam? Rigby's at the door." She said. "RIGBY'S HERE?!" Sam looks around. " ...At this apartment?" He asked. "He's at the door to this apartment, yes." Eileen replied. Rigby is at the front door and sees Sam. "Sam!" Sam is walking to the door, still in his PJs. "Hey! I haven't seen you since CJ ruined your dad's party, heh heh." Sam is clearly upset and nervous, and Rigby notices. ".....Ok, bad joke. Look. I feel really bad about how I used to treat you and (Y/n) back when... you know. So, I thought maybe, I could make it up somehow?
But how well do I know you? Let's go on a double date!" Rigby said. "Double date?!" Sam asked in shock. "Yeah! So we can get to know each other. Me and (Y/n), you and your new girlfriend. Double date!" Rigby said. Sam looks to the side and speaks slowly, still uncertain. "Oooooookaaayy. I mean, are you sure that's ok?" He asked. "Uhh," Rigby thinks, then smiles. "...We should make it ok." He walks up to Sam. "Its important to me that we're all..." he gestures him paws to Sam then himself, smiling. "Heh, alright cool." Sam said.
"Cool! Great! It'll be great! You're great," Rigby points to Sam. "Ok? Ok." He said quickly. Sam nods understandingly. Rigby gives two thumbs up. "Ok! Sideline at seven!" He leaves. "See ya then!" Sam closes the door and leans against it, then sighs. He brings a paw to his face and groans. He puts both paws on his face. "Eileeen!" He flops on the couch, his face hitting a pillow. "EILEEEEEEEEEN!"
He shouted. She puts a hand on Sam's head. "I heard your muffled screams. What's the matter?" She asked. Sam's face is out of the pillow, but still laying down, distraught. "I made it all up. I don't have a girlfriend." He said. Eileen is eating an egg on bread. "So you're not dating weekend sports anchor Amy Hanlon after your breakup with CJ?" She asked. "No. But saying I did felt like the only way to....um..." Sam looks at Eileen. "Not die? I mean you how Mordecai and Rigby are when it comes to (Y/n). I just don't want them mad at me too."
"Ok. Well why did you agree to that double date thing?" Eileen asked. Sam gets up and is now sitting on the couch, still distraught. "I don't know! Rigby was really excited about it, so I just, went along with it? This is really bad. If they find out I lied, it'll make everybody feel all weird again, what should I do?" Sam asked. "Tell the truth." Eileen said. "But then, they'll know, I lied!" Sam shouted. "Ok, well, that was kind of the only sensible option. You could..." Eileen thinks. "Ask Amy Hanlon to pose as your girlfriend?" She asked. At a playground, middle school kids are playing tetherball. Amy is in front of a camera, reporting about a tournament.
"Tetherballs screen through the air as do the dueling egos of these athletic titans. This has been regional junior high tetherball, I'm Amy Hanlon, bidding you adieu." She bows at the camera. "And cut!" The cameraman said. "Aaah," she walks over to the refreshments. "You've done it again Amy. Aaah." She notices Sam waving and Eileen. "Well, hey, Sam, Eileen, what brings you here? Most people just see tetherball as a more boring version of "ball in a cup". She said. "I do feel that way about tetherball. But actually, Sam has a favor to ask." Eileen said. "Yeeeaaaahh. Could yooooouuuu.......hand me that water bottle?" Sam asked.
Amy grabs one and gives it to Sam. "Hey, you got it!" She said. "Thanks! Well, that's all I needed see ya Monday!" Sam said. Eileen stops Sam from leaving. "Sam accidentally called you his girlfriend." She said, and Sam slaps his face, blushing. "Could you pretend to be his date tonight?" Eileen asked. Amy gasps. "Yeeeeeeeeeeh...uuuugghh. Yes! I have always wanted to be an actooooor!" She said. Sam sighs of relief. "Wow, thanks!" He looks at Eileen. "Sooo, how do we know what to say?" He asked. "Let's test it out." Sam goes to stand by Amy. "So, where'd you guys meet?" They answer at the same time. "Air." Said Amy. "Water." They look at each other, then they look back at Eileen. "Ugh, I'm really bad at lying. I don't know what to do at all." Sam said. Eileen nods. "I know who can help." She said.
Later at the non-descript coffee shop, they are meeting Mordecai. They sit at a table. Mordecai sits out of the light, giving a detective feel. The others sit in the light, waiting. "So you're telling me that I'm meeting at this non-descript coffee shop to help you lie to my," he gets angry and is shown in the light. "Best friends?" He asked. "Yeah." Sam said. "But it's to keep them happy?" Mordecai asked. "Definetly." Eileen said. "Okay...." He turns on another light, making the atmosphere less suspicious. He pulls out a handful of papers. "Well, here's a little something I just whipped up." He gives the papers to Amy and Sam. They look at them. "Give it a once over, see what you think." A paper is shown to be the beginning of a script.
"Some backstory, how you guys met." He said. "I don't mean to criticize, because, I mean, you're writing is really good, but this seems too complicated. Couldn't we have just met at work?" Sam asked. "I LOVE it! It has everything! Action, intrigue, hot air baloooons! Excellent work Mordecai! Or should I say, director!" Amy does a weird laugh. Mordecai chuckles nervously. "See, Amy gets it. If you don't commit to this lie, Sam, they'll see right through it." Sam becomes worried. "Just be careful, and try not not to mess this up." Later at The Side Line, Amy and Sam are about to walk in. Sam sighs. "I know we just spent seven hours practicing, but I can't get rid of these moths in my stomach!" Amy said. "Moths?" Sam asked.
Amy starts to sweat. "See, I'm getting the lines wrong already!" She said. "Look, it doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be convincing." Sam puts his paws on her shoulders and looks at her in the face. "If one of us goes off script, we'll just go with it, ok?" He asked. Amy is still sweating and speaks fast. " ........I think I love you." She said. They start to walk towards the door. "See, acting. Just like that." Sam said. Inside of The Side Line, Rigby and (Y/n) are waiting at a booth. Music is playing in the background. "How...uh...how ya feeling?" (Y/n) asked. "Fine." Rigby said. (Y/n) starts to ramble. "Sooo, you're sure you wanna do this? Cause, we don't have to do this. We could still cancel. I'm gonna cancel." She said. "Shh, they're here. Hey!" Everyone greets each other, all saying hey at around the same time. Amy and (Y/n) shake hands.
"Amy." The girl said. "(Y/n). I think I've seen you on TV." (Y/n) said. "Please, tonight I am not "Amy, Sports Anchor." I'm Amy, Sam's girlfriend." Amy said. "That's......that's cool." Sam and Rigby begin to sit down. "Oh hey, we're sitting." (Y/n) said. Rigby clears his throat. "We're all here." He said. "Yep, yep, we are." (Y/n) said. She and Rigby chuckle nervously. "So, Amy...Sam, did you guys meet at work, or...." Rigby asked. "Oh, it's a funny story...." They look at each other nervously, and Sam continues. "It's a funny story...... So there I was, studying abroad in the jungle, when BAM! A lion popped out of a lion hole. And then it roared so I ran. I ran...and ran..and ran. Luckily there was a hot air balloon there... " Sam said.
"...Because there was a..hot..air..balloon..rental place." Amy said. "Yeah, I hopped in and flew away, but then I saw it. Another hot air balloon!" Sam said. "And that was me. That was me, I was being attacked, by-by birds." Amy said. "Bald eagles. We tried to stop the bald eagles...I mean.. balloons!... from.. crashing. It was too late, they crashed." Sam said. "Our bodies collided, and we rocketed to the ground in a ball of flames,
KABOOM! The doctors say we only survived because we held each other....so close. So then I looked him in the eyes and I said those immortal words... "You wanna hang out some time?" Amy asked. Rigby raises an eyebrow in slight disbelief, eyeing the two suspiciously. "Wow...that's... a really crazy story." Rigby said. "I don't know, that kind of stuff happens to us all the time, does it not?" (Y/n) asked, she drinks some water, and Rigby chuckles. "Ha. I guess I can't deny that." He said. "Yeah, it does. I can't even believe I survived hanging out with you." Sam said to (Y/n). Rigby seemed to glare at Sam for that comment and
(Y/n) has a nervous look, while Amy is not amused. "Ahaha, that girl." Sam said. "This girl." Rigby teased, playing along. "Hehaa, meeee." (Y/n) said. "Hehe. So tell us, about your guys first date." Rigby said. "Of course." Amy gets into acting mode. "It was a cold winter's day.... And so that's why I had to change me exit for American audiences." Amy said, and everyone laughs, except Sam, who is fake laughing. "Oh Amy, your memory of our first date is so different than mine. It's been a long night. Maybe we should get the check." Sam stands up. Rigby also stands up. "I was hoping we could shoot some pool or something. Couple against couple! (Y/n)?" Rigby asked. "Uh....yeah, pool, heh, yeah." She replied.
"I should probablyyyyyy......." Sam said. "Huh?" Rigby makes a motion of hitting a ball with the stick and making a crashing sound, trying to convince him. "Huh?" He asked. "Uuuuhh.....say yes." Sam said to himself, then he sighs. "I said yes." He said. "Cool! Let's go." Rigby starts to set up the table. "So, how are things at the station?" He asked. "Oh, you know, still learning the ropes." Sam grabs a stick. "But everyone's been really supportive." He said. "That's awesome. Hey, speaking of news, did you hear that Muscle Man and Starla are getting married?" Rigby asked. "Heh, yeah. Does that mean they're gonna move in together or something?" Sam asked. "I guess so. They'll probably have to get a trailer for the trailer." Rigby joked. "Hahahaha!" The duo laugh, and Amy shows up.
"Hello loves. You know, Sammy always said when we get hitched, we'd have a charming bungalow in Connecticut." She said. "Haha, oh Amy," Sam takes her hand off his "waist" and puts it on his shoulder. "Well, you know, we haven't really talked about that yet." Sam said. "Oh twaddle! We talked about it on the blimp, the day we meet!" Amy said. "Uh..." Sam said. "Didn't you say you met on two separate hot air balloons?" Rigby asked suspiciously with (Y/n) behind him. "Oh, uh.....it's a regional thing. They call them.... blimp.... blimpos....can I talk to you for a second." Sam and Amy walk to the side. "......This is fun!" Rigby said. "Amy, what are you doing?!
Things were going well and then you come in and change the story?!" Sam asked. "I'm sorry Sammy, it's just....I've never felt so alive! I can't tell where Amy ends and Amy begins!!" She replied. "What?" Sam asked. "I mean, maybe we should move to Connecticut." Her eyes are bloodshot, and her accent is coming back fully. "I hear they have a real good school system!" She looks at her hands, her eyes darting. "Uuuh.....ok....I think you might need a little break. Why don't you go get us some drinks?" Sam asked. "Two ripupits, coming right up!" Amy walks away. Sam pulls out the phone and calls Mordecai.
"Mordecai..." he groaned. "Hello?" He asked. "Mordecai! I need your help." Sam said. "Sure, what's up?" Mordecai asked. "Amy is going way off the scri-" Sam is cut off. "PSYYYCH! This isn't me, it's a recording of me. I got you goooood. Leave a message after the beep. "BEEEEEEEP." An actual voicemail tone syncs with Mordecai's crude imitation. "Mordecai, where are you?! I need you here-" he's cut off by (Y/n). "Hey!" (Y/n) notices he was on the phone. "Oh, sorry!" She begins to walk away.
"No, it's ok." Sam said. (Y/n) walks back. "I didn't see you were..." she said. "Yeah, no, it's cool." Sam said. "Are you sure?" (Y/n) asked. "Yeah, yeah." Sam said, in a better mood. "Ok, hah." (Y/n) makes motions with her paws. "Whoop, whoop." She said. "Hahaha." The two chipmunks laugh. "Yeah. I just wanted to say....I like Amy, you know? She seems like a really nice girl." (Y/n) said. "Uuuuuuh, yeah. Thanks (Y/n)." Sam said. "I was a little surprised, I guess but...you seem really happy." (Y/n) smiles. "Yeah. Yeah......well." Sam gets nervous.
"She's..great, but..I..just.......UGH!" Sam smacks his face. "The truth about Amy is-" a horn sounds off. "K-K-K-K-KISSCAM! Who'se been spotted by the Kisscam?!" Couples are shown kissing, then Sam and Amy are shown. Sam gasps. "AMY?" He asked. "KISS, KISS, KISS!" Everyone chanted. "ON THE LIPS!" A guy shouted. "Woooooh, do it!" (Y/n) cheered. "This'll look great on my reel!" Amy throws the drinks and grabs Sam's waist and dips him, the crowd still chanting "kiss" in slow motion. "OOOOOOOONNN TTTTHHHHHEEEEEEEE LLLIIIPPPPPSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!"
The guy from before shouted. "KIIIIIIIISSSSSSSS!!!!!!" (Y/n) shouted. Sam turns away from Amy. "NO! YOU'RE NOT MY GIRLFRIEND!!!" Sam shouted. "What?!" Rigby asked angrily. "Change the slide Marcus!" The cameras are then changed. "D-D-D-D-DUMPCAM! You're dumped!" The announcer said. "What do you mean she's not your girlfriend?" Rigby demanded. "I'm sorry. I lied about the whole thing. It seemed like the only way to make you ok with me being around.
I was just...scared and tired of everything being awkward. I'm sick of feeling like a tourist around my own friends." Sam said. (Y/n) is looking down, sad/shocked. "So let me get this straight." Rigby starts to get really angry as he approaches Sam. "You're single, you wanted to date (Y/n) for a while, but never actually had the guts to ask her out, and once she finally had the courage to ask you out you ditched her, and now you keep trying to hang out with her, as if you're just expecting her to be willing to jump right back into where you left off, and it's not like you kept in touch with her after you left.
Not to mention when you did come back it made things even worse for her. UGH!" Rigby growls furiously, and his hands turn into fists, and Sam flinches back, expecting Rigby to punch him, which he almost did, but Rigby slowly exhales and calms down. "I can't believe you lied about everything. There's only one reason you would lie about something like that. So as long as we're all just....all out here telling the truth, why don't you just tell me right now. Do you still have feelings for (Y/n)?" Everything is silent for a moment. The crowd is on the edge of their seats, and Sam is shown, on the screen still. "I think......."
(Y/n) is looking back at him and waiting. "I do." He replied, and everyone gasps. "I'm sorry......I just wanted to start over." Sam said, and Rigby got frustrated all over again.
"You had your chance, Sam! And you blew it! Why didn't you just get it right the first time?!" Rigby asked, and his voice cracks as tears prick his eyes, then he storms out. "(Y/-" Sam asked, but (Y/n) runs out after Rigby. Sam sighs and sits at a booth and puts his head down, ashamed. "You broke me 'eart, Sam. Good luck getting that bungalow in Conneticut by yourself. I'm keeping the kids!" Amy walks off, and Sam groans loudly. Amy then came back. "Aaaaaand, scene."
