High Score

The trio are raking leaves and Benson comes across in the golf cart and Mordecai groans. "What now? Look, we're working. See." He said. "Yeah, we're never gonna get done if you keep checking up on us." Rigby said. "It's Pay day, fellas." Benson said. The trio run toward Benson. "Yeah-yuh!" Mordecai said. "My favorite day of the every other week!" Rigby said. Benson hands Mordecai and Rigby each a bag of change and writes (Y/n) a check. "Here." Mordecai groans.

"What, you don't like getting paid?" Benson asked. "No, I'm just getting tired of the old sandwich-baggie full of coins. Why can't we get a check like (Y/n)?" Mordecai asked. "(Y/n) has a bank account." Benson said. "Well, at least give us the coins in an envelope or something more respectable, 'cause this is degrading." Benson drives away. "I need to get out of here." Mordecai said. The trio are walking to the coffee shop. "What's his deal? He doesn't respect us at all!" Mordecai said. "Maybe he'd respect you two more if you guys did actual work."

(Y/n) teased, smirking at them and they glare at her. "Whatever, that's his problem, right? We're respectable people." Rigby said. The trio get knocked over by two skateboarders. "Outta the way!" "Losers!" The kids said. "Ow!" (Y/n) yelps as she falls over. Mordecai and Rigby shake their fists, they were both pretty angry that they knocked (Y/n) over too. "What the heck, man? Watch it!" Mordecai snapped. Rigby then helps (Y/n) up. "You okay?" He asked worriedly. "Yeah, thanks." She winces in pain slightly. Later the trio are at the coffee shop. "See, it's not just Benson, people just don't respect us." Mordecai said.

"Come on. You're making that assumption just because of those two jerks? They knocked me over too, you know." (Y/n) crosses her arms. "True, well, we could buy people's respect." Ridgy said. "Nah, too expensive. People respect people who are good at things." Mordecai said. "Well..." (Y/n) began. "I think there's a bit more to it than that. Sure, people do respect talent, but there's a lot more to respect than that. People respect others for multiple different reasons."

(Y/n) said as she sat down beside Mordecai. They suddenly see a crowd cheering around an arcade game. The trio walk up to Margaret. "Margaret, what's going on?" (Y/n) asked. "The manager installed this new arcade game to keep the customers around. These kids are amazing at it, you should see 'em." She said. Sam was besides her watching as well. Mordecai looks and sees that the kids are the skateboarders from before. "Dude, it's those kids! Hey, hey you!" He shouted. "What?" The kid asked. "When you knock people over, you have to say you're sorry. You guys need to learn some respect." Mordecai said. "Respect our butts." The kid said.

"No, you respect our butts!" Rigby shouted. "What are you dudes doing?" Sam asked in disbelief. "Those kids practically killed us with their skateboards outside." Mordecai said. "I think "killed" is a bit of an exaggeration, Mordecai. They knocked us over." (Y/n) said. "So? They're kids. What are you going to do, beat them up or something?" Margaret asked. "No, but I am gonna kick their butts at this video game." He puts coin on the arcade game. "Bam! I got next." He said.

"Nice baggie, must've been sad when you break open your piggy bank." The kids laugh, and (Y/n) growls. She hated it when people made fun of her friends. "Seven-hundred thousand/700,0000!" The 1st kid said. The second kid puts his name on the high score list. "TRD, turd." He laughs. "Nice." The two kids high-five. "Yeah-yuh!" They said. "Beat that, gramps." He said. "Gramps? I'm in my 20s." Mordecai said. "Yeah, 1920s" the 1st kid laughs. "Just move." Mordecai sits in front of the arcade game, cracks his knuckles and starts playing.

Later the trio are sitting down at a table. "How do you get negative points?" Rigby asked. "Yeah, how is that even possible?" (Y/n) asked. "It was the first time I ever played that stupid game. Give me a break." Mordecai said. "I'm just saying, you made us look like chumps, man." Rigby said. "Look at 'em." (Y/n) said in disgust. The kids are being praised by the manager. "You guys really handed it to those losers." He said. Sam walks over with plate of donuts. "Free donuts for the champs!" He said. The kids eat the donuts and the crowd cheers. "Suck ups." (Y/n) mumbled. "All right, we're outta here." The kids exit, and the crowd speaks of amazement. "On the downside, there will be those who respect others JUST for skill and nothing more,

despite how bad their personalities are." (Y/n) grumbled. "Seriously?" Rigby asked her, his eyes widened. "Weren't they amazing? I can't believe we were so enthralled by a video game, but we were." Margaret told Sam as they walked off. "Video games are cool, Margaret." Sam said. "I told you people respect you when you're good at something. And we're gonna get the respect we deserve by getting good at that game." Mordecai said, and (Y/n) sighs.

"Normally I'd be against this kind of thing, but it would nice to get back at those jerks." She smirks. The trio start playing the game. "Okay, Broken Bonez." Mordecai said. "So are you trying to get broken bones?" Rigby asked. "Rigby, no. you just gotta go off these jumps and land without breaking your bones." (Y/n) said. The motorcyclist in the game lands for 10 points. "Alright, I think I got it. Here, gimme a shot." Rigby mindlessly taps and turns. The motorcyclist does a trick and lands for 500 points. "Woah, how'd you do that?" Mordecai asked. "I dunno, that's what those kids were doing. Here, you do the joystick and I'll do the buttons. You and (Y/n) just go crazy when we're in the air." Rigby said.

The trio tap and turn wildly, a sound goes off. "Wow, another 500! Aww sweet!" (Y/n) said. "Aww, well not bad, not bad. You guys got some skill." Jack Farley said. "Some? What do you mean some?" Mordecai asked. Jack Farley plays the game, (Y/n), Mordecai and Rigby play the game, Jack Farley plays the game again. "C'mon, Jack Farley!" He groans. "Dang it!" The screen shows 5 broken bonez! "Well, I gotta hand it to you guys. You play better than you look." He said. "Okay?" Rigby asked. "Thanks." (Y/n) said. "Stop by the office sometime if you wanna hang." He hands (Y/n) a card. "No charge." His cellphone rings. "Yeah, Jack Farley? No! I said cell two, two!" He said. "What was that all about?" Rigby asked. The trio glance at the card that says 'Jack Farley thinks you're awesome' on it. Mordecai gasps.

"Respect!" He said. "I guess so." (Y/n) said. "Let's get some more." Rigby said. "(Y/n), Mordecai, Rigby, come in." Benson said over a walkie talkie. "Aww, man, it's Benson." Mordecai reaches for the walkie talkie. "Yeah, uh, hey Benson. What's up?" He asked. "I need you guys to clean the bathrooms back at the house ASAP." Benson said, and (Y/n) cringes. "Oh, not the bathrooms!" She said. "Don't worry (Y/n), I got this. Uh, we're on our lunch break." Mordecai said. "Look, if you three aren't back in two minutes, you're fired!" Benson shouted. "Like we haven't heard that threat before..." (Y/n) mumbled, and her best friends snicker. "Gimme that!"

Rigby snatches the walkie talkie. "We deserve more respect than this, Benson. Maybe when you realize that we'll come back to work." He throws the wakie talkie in the bin and (Y/n)'s jaw drops. "Did you just... give Benson attitude? Wow, you guys are so fired." She said, and Rigby just shrugs. "(Y/n), Rigby, Mordecai!" Benson shouted. "Respect!" The duo said. The trio are later versing people at Broken Bonez and gaining respect. Soon even the kids from before are watching them play. "Oh look, if it isn't the negative points trio. Guess we'll have to beat you two losers again."

The 1st kid said. "Well, why don't you two come over here and try, then?" (Y/n) asked, glaring at them. "You got yourselves a rematch." The second kid said. The trio play against them and win. "Aww, man!" The kids said. "All right, you guys are good." The 2nd kid said. "Thanks." Mordecai said. "Whoa, you guys are really good! You're close to beating the high score!" The 1st kid said. "Whoa, we are?" (Y/n) asked. The trio's score is: 950,000, while the high score is: 1,275,640. "Wait, who holds the high score?" Jack Farley asked. "Some dude named GBF, but it's not just a high score, it's the world record." Sam said. "Thanks, now I can follow along and feel invested. Go for it, guys!" Jack Farley shouted. The trio top the high score with a new score of 1,279,000. "Yeah!" Mordecai said.

Everyone cheers. Sam runs up and hugs (Y/n). The ground starts to shake and a beam from a lightning cloud shoots into the café. A giant head, GBF, appears. "So you've broken the world record, have you?" He asked. "Yeah, who's asking?" (Y/n) asked. "Me." He turns around and everyone gasps.

Rigby makes a sound of disgust. "It's a giant bearded face!" He shouted, and the trio gasp. "GBF!" They shouted. "Yeah, I'm GBF all right, but it stands for Garrett Bobby Ferguson, not Giant Bearded Face." He replied, and (Y/n) snickered. "You're not mad at us for breaking your world record, are you?" Rigby asked. "It's no big deal. Not like it's the universe record or anything important." He replied. "The Universe record?" The trio asked.

"It's the highest score in the whole universe, 1,279,001. Now who holds that record again? Oh yeah, me!" He said. Everyone runs up to GBF and strokes his beard. "Hey, Giant Beard-o Face!" Mordecai said. "I told you that's not my name!" He shouted. "Look, we're gonna settle this right now. Us versus you in a head to head match." (Y/n) said. "Fine. One game for the universe record.

Winner gets all the respect." GBF said. He sprouts his arms and legs and the trio make a sound of disgust. "Let's play." He said. The trio and GBF play against each other. The trio are in the lead and GBF starts crying. "What are you crying for?" (Y/n) asked. "Please, please just let me win." He said. "Dude, what are you talking about?" Mordecai asked. "I've devoted my entire life to Broken Bonez. I played so much my wife left me." He sobs, and the crowd murmurs in sympathy. "So you're asking us to throw the game?" Mordecai asked. "Please, the universe record is all I have." He replied. "What do you think, guys?" (Y/n) asked her best friends. "Well..." Mordecai said.

"No way! Nobody's gonna respect us if we wuss out now." Rigby said. GBF cries harder, and the crowd murmurs in sympathy more. "It's not wussing out, man. It's called doing the right thing." Mordecai said. "Fine." Rigby said. "Okay dude, we'll let you have it." (Y/n) said. The trio let go, and the screen shows 'Player 1: 1,250,000'. "Thank you so much!" He laughs evilly. "Thank you for being so dumb." He said. "What?" The trio asked. "I didn't devote my life to this cruddy game, it's just a hobby." He replied. "But what about your wife?" Mordecai asked, and he scoffs. "Never had one. You can't tie GBF down." He said. "You can't do that, that's cheating!" (Y/n) shouted. "Universe rules, baby. There are no rules." He said, and everyone boos at him.

"Oh, boo yourselves! I'm Garrett Bobby Ferguson." He said. "Aww, this blows! We gotta do something before he beats our score." Mordecai said. "No rules, right? Mess up, c'mon, mess up!" Rigby shouted. "You know you want some broken bones." Mordecai said. "Broken bones!" (Y/n) shouted. "Broken bones!" The trio shouted. Everyone starts chanting 'broken bones'. GBF beats their score and laughs. "It doesn't matter, I've already beat your score and taken the title and I'm never coming back." He said, everyone is disappointed by this and the trio look defeated. The arcade game makes a noise. "Wait, the game's still going!" Jack Farley said.

"Huh?" Mordecai asked. The trio start playing. "No, it can't be!" GBF shouted. "C'mon, c'mon!" (Y/n) shouted. GBF starts throwing the trio away from the game. He pulls on Mordecai. "Get off!" "Hands off my friend!" (Y/n) bites him in the shin, and Mordecai kicks him in the groin. "Ow! My Chin!" He shouted. The trio furiously play, and soon the score shows 1,300,000. "Yeah!" The trio shouted.

"NOOOOOOOOO—" He explodes and covers everyone in a white brain goo. Everyone cheers and surrounds the trio. "Great job, you did it!" The crowd leaves, revealing Benson. "Oh, hey Benson, what're you doing here?" Mordecai asked. "I thought about what you guys said earlier and so I've come down to give you those checks you wanted." Benson said. "Oh, wow, thanks." They reach for the checks, but Benson pulls them away. "But now that I'm covered in brain goo, I've realized my mistake." He goes red and starts tearing up the checks. "You wanna waste your lives playing video games, then fine! I respect your decision! Just don't ever do it on my time ever again!" He shouted, then walks away angrily. "I can respect that." Mordecai said. "Yeah, that's cool." Rigby agreed.
