* Annabeth's POV.*
Fourth period was normal as usual. As I listened to Mr. Hushman talk on and on about Toyko's history, which was nothing but boring information that was of no use to anyone what so ever, I went into daze as I stared out the window.
"Annabeth,"a voice beside me hissed. "Snap out of it!"
I groaned as I turned to see the my best friend Olivia desperately trying to get my attention. " Ugh! I'm tired!"
It was fourth period for heaven's sake! I've already put up with all the previous classes, couldn't I just rest peacefully? Jeez!
"Seriously!"Olivia frowned. " Mr. Hushman is-"
However, before Olivia could finish her sentence, Mr. Hushman walked over to us and hit my desk with his ancient newspaper from World War I.
"Girls, is my lesson boring to the point you can't even pretend to listen to me?"Mr. Hushman chided as he shook his head.
"Well, for one, I was paying attention sir, but-"Olivia began to say.
" N-no sir,"I wailed. If I had let Olivia continue her sentence, I would've been in bad trouble. "Your lesson was incredibly interesting!"
Mr. Hushman gave me an incredulous look. "Of course....Now, what was I saying?"
Period four dragged on forever. As I stared at my notes, I turned around every now and then to check the clock. It seemed like the bell was never going to ring.
" Okay, now for the last topic,"Mr. Hushman said as he flipped his textbook.
Then, suddenly, the deafening bell rang while the sound resonated in my ears. One by one, everyone stood up and began to pack their bags while talking to one another.
" Ah, the bell,"Mr. Hushman remembered. "Very well, class is dismissed!"
" Thank god!" I rose to my feet. " Let's go home Olivia. "
" Sure,"Olivia mumbled as she backed her bag. Unlike me, Olivia was good at sports and she was rich. However, I wasn't jealous of her, if anything, I liked my life as it was. Despite being rich, Olivia could barely be with her parents. Her parents were always working at their company's headquarters in England. Olivia's parents were one of the couple billionaires in the world.
As we walked back home together, I looked around at the streets. Tokyo was indeed amazingly gorgeous. Sakura trees decorated the sides of the streets as creatures of all sizes gather on the tree.
" Another good day,"I smiled.
Olivia snickered, "You're such an optimistic person!"
" What?"I pouted. Ever since I was a child, I was always told to strive in life and that life was much more than it seemed. Not knowing what that meant, I decide it meant being happy-go-lucky. Seriously! Telling a kid to 'strive' in life without telling them how to do that won't change anything!
*Flash back *
"Mommy, why are you crying,"the four years old me asked with concern as I walked into the living room.
Surprised to see me, my mother wiped her tears. " Nothing my dear,"my mom managed.
" W-where's daddy?"I hesitated, gripping my soft teddy bear as hard as I could. " M-mommy, where is daddy?"
" Y-your daddy is in a better place called heaven, Annabeth,"my mother said softly.
" Heaven?"I tilted my head. Where's that? I was sure I memorized every country in the world and 'heaven' wasn't one of them.
"Yes my dear....Now listen. Strive in life! You can find so much more in life than you think, understood,"my mother said sharply.
I nodded as I tried to sniff my tears back,"Yes!"
*Back to reality *
"Annabeth, stop staring at the trees! You're home,"Olivia snapped as she waved her hands in front if my face.
" Y-yeah, " I blinked. " Sorry!"
" No duh, of course you're sorry! My poor hands had to wave in front of your face for like what? Three minutes,"Olivia exclaimed.
I laughed, " Okay, got it!"
As I opened the door, my mom dashed towards us.
" Hello, Olivia! Would you like to come in? Oh, how was your day, Annabeth,"my mom asked.
My mom was beautiful, really. She had a regal face with fair skin which was complimented with flawless blonde hair that flowed down her shoulders.
"It's okay, Ms. Aricane. Besides, I need to get the house ready for my parents when the come back"Olivia said with a bow.
" Oh, I see. Is David and Ella coming back to Japan soon,"my mother asked. Olivia's parents and my mom were close friends, you see.
"Yeah, they're coming on Thursday, "Olivia replied bluntly.
" That's good,"my mom smiled.
" Yup! Bye,"Olivia waved at us before walking away.
" Bye,"I exclaimed as I waved back.
As I walked into our rustic yet cozy house, I put my bag on the couch and walked to our small kitchen for water.
"How was school,"asked my mom.
"Good, but history was beyond boring,"I replied as I gulped my glass of water.
Suddenly, I heard a big thump in living room. Astonished, I ran to what had happened.
" M-mom?"I stammered.
