Joey gave me hope. He was especially good with the children of the facility. He organized a storytime for the smaller kids, he sometimes told classic fairytales and sometimes he told stories of his own. They were of people who would fight vicious monsters, and villains would end up saving the heroes.

The children would eat it up and five minutes after the stories ended they were acting them out. He made it so vivid and the characters came alive.

I was watching him one day when he did particularly 'edgy' story for the children. " Then the Magician kissed the Hero, and it turned out he was his true love all along."

One of the children called out " Well Duh! Who didn't see that one coming?"

The group of children laughed and I had to chuckle a bit as well. He ended the story and the children went back to playing.

" Some parents are going to be ticked at that story you know," I remarked as he was putting his chair up. " Even during a disaster like this people will still be bigoted. "

" Well, I am running out of stories. The kids wanted an original story today and that was one I had. Well, actual there was a throat-slitting princess in my original story but I had to keep it PG. "

That was interesting. I highly doubt his Mom knew about this story considering how strict she was.

"Did you want to become an author? When you got older?"

" Yes, I still do. I mean going through this is basically a goldmine of ideas. Plus disasters end, and once this one ends I want to be the first major author on the market."

" I will make sure to buy the book." I told him.

" Promise?" He asked me. He was clearly joking but he had a sparkle in his eye. He seemed happy to have someone supporting him.

" I promise." I held out my pinkie so we could pinkie promise.

" This is so girly." He commented as he took my pinkie with his and shook it.

I was so determined to keep my promise.
