I heard a gunshot outside the facility today. I was up on the roof watering the plants when I heard a noise from the woods. I didn't think much of it till a lady who takes care of the garden with me screamed.

"No! That's where he is today!" She cried as people ran over to comfort her.

I learned that her son was part of the scavenging team and that they don't go out with guns. So the gunshot was probably some of the raiders. I understand why she was so shaken by it. Not knowing if her son was dead or alive.

The scavengers ended up coming back an hour early. One woman had a bullet in her leg. One of the medics came and took her to a back room.

I saw this whole thing with Joey. He looked distant. I asked him what was wrong and he said, "I just couldn't imagine hurting other people like that. Just for some food."

I always admired that Joey would never hurt anyone. He really just wants to make the world a better place. It's a bit refreshing.
