Chapter 64

I woke up to the sound of silence a while later, and I couldn't help but let out a small groan of annoyance because I had no idea why I was awake at such an ungodly hour and wondered what the hell woke me up.

I bit back a tired sigh and opened my eyes, knowing full well that I wouldn't be getting any more sleep because of this feeling that I was feeling, even though I had no idea what I was feeling nor why I was feeling it.

It was as if the air around me was holding its breath while waiting for something to happen, no matter if it was either good or bad...

I sat up and moved a hand through my hair and across my face before I rubbed the bridge of my nose and pursed my lips in annoyance, biting back a small groan of annoyance. I took a deep breath and released it with a small whoosh before I created a small ball of fire so that I could look around the tent to make sure that the feeling wasn't because of something that belonged to here.

And thankfully it wasn't...

I breathed a small sigh of relief when I saw that there wasn't anything that caused the feeling in the tent before I looked toward Caroline's bed to see that she was there and asleep, oblivious to the fact that I was awake.

Oh, Goddess, keep her safe while I make sure that everything is fine outside of the tent...

I swung my legs over the bed and started to put my boots on my feet, biting the inside of my lip. My heart grew warm, and I couldn't help but not be surprised that they were off because I knew that it meant Fernos had taken them off, even though I had no idea why he would do it when he didn't trust me or like me that much.

Or maybe he was slowly starting to understand who I was to him...

I bit back a small snort and shook my head, pushing those thoughts away so that I wouldn't ponder them further when I needed to take care of this. I sighed and moved a hand through my hair and across my face before I stood and started to make my way to the tent's entrance, letting myself focus solely on the feeling and nothing else, even though a part of me didn't know if it was a good idea or not.

Someone cleared their throat when I reached the entrance of the tent and had my hand on one of the tent flaps, and I turned to look that way to see Fernos in the shadows with his dark brown eyes focused on me.

His hands were behind his back and his hands were clasped together. His whole body was tense, and he set his jaw while he pressed his lips into a thin line. He didn't say a word and slowly blinked while he looked at me, raising an eyebrow in question.

I hesitated and licked my lips. "Can we talk outside of the tent?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper while I raised an eyebrow in question, studying him. "Please? I don't want to wake Caroline up when she needs sleep."

"And don't you?" he asked and raised his eyebrow higher in question while he studied me. He gestured for me to go ahead and lead the way outside, and I breathed a small sigh of relief before I started to walk out of the tent with Fernos following me.

Oh, thank Goddess...

I shook my head and pressed my lips into a thin line. "I do not know if I will be able to fall asleep," I admitted before I looked at him, letting the tent flap fall after he had exited the tent. "I have this feeling that I know that is not going to let up, so I don't think I will be able to sleep until it does."

"And what is it telling you to do?" Fernos asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he continued to study me.

"To follow it," I said and shrugged, biting back a small grimace. "I do not know what is going to happen while I follow it, but I know that I am going to have to follow it."

I hesitated and looked around before I looked at him, biting the inside of my lip. "Can you make sure that I am not seen by anyone, please?" I asked my voice barely above a whisper while I looked at him. "Is that why you are out here anyway and following me?"

"Yes," Fernos said and nodded in confirmation. "I do not know why I am asking this, because I do not trust you, but do you trust me?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied my back. "I am going to have to put my hand on your shoulder to make sure that this works."

With my life...

I bit back a small whine of pain and sadness, and my heart broke into a million pieces when he said that he didn't trust me. I licked my lips and cleared my throat while I slowly nodded. "Ok," I said, my voice barely above a whisper before I started to make my way to the feeling, not telling him that I trusted him or not.

Fernos bit back an annoyed sigh before he rubbed the bridge of his nose and pursed his lips in annoyance. "You need to tell me that you trust me before I do this, Kyler Rose," he warned, and I held back an eye roll while I set my jaw and pressed my lips into a thin line.

"Then, fine, yes," I said and nodded in confirmation. "I trust you with my life, Fernos."

"Why?"

"Because you are my family in my timeline, and you still have his face," I said and looked at him from the corner of my eye before I looked away from him. "You might not trust me, but I trust you because I know that a part of you is my grandfather, and you will protect me as this, even though you won't think it."

Fernos scoffed a laugh and rolled his eyes, pursing his lips in annoyance. "And why would you say that?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "I am not going to protect you or keep you safe. I do not trust you or know you. You haven't earned my respect or my trust."

My heart broke into more pieces, if possible, but I made sure that he wouldn't be able to know that it had hurt me so much. I licked my lips before I cleared my throat.

I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thin line. "I don't know why I said that, but I do." I hesitated and licked my lips, biting back a tired sigh. "I think you should go ahead and put your hand on my shoulder, though," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Please, Fernos. We need to be safe and hidden from others."

Fernos bit back a tired sigh and slowly nodded before he walked over to me. He placed his hand on my shoulder, and the hair on the back of my neck stood at attention while he made it so that no one could see us. "We can not be seen," he said coldly, even though I already knew that. "Now, are you going to tell me the reason as to wh-"

I shook my head and silenced him, biting the inside of my lip when my heart skipped a beat before it started to pound hard and fast in my chest. "We're about to get to it," I said when I saw the edge of the border. "That means we have to stay quiet so that we wouldn't be seen b-"

I bit back a small gasp and ducked into a small brush that was near us, and Fernos came with me when we saw two people on either side with the barrier between them, and someone turned to look that way as if they had heard me gasp, even though I had this feeling that they didn't.

"Silas..."
