Chapter 12 (Edited)

There was something in the air that called to me, waking me from my restless slumber that made me feel the remnants of crying myself to sleep. Something was going to happen, and my body hummed in a way that I couldn't describe. It was... exhilarating, and I knew that whatever was going to happen, wouldn't affect me that much physically but maybe mentally and emotionally.

I cocked my head and sat up, feeling as if I was sleepwalking and in a dreamlike state. I vaguely remembered feeling this way before, some time before my parents death and when they had stopped me from going... somewhere.

I stood from my bed and walked to the window, opening it. I stepped backwards to the door and ran towards the window, not caring that I didn't have any shoes on, nor the fact that I looked like shit. As soon as I took in a deep breath, I dived out of the opened window and rolled to my feet, the stinging pain not even breaking my stride as I ran after the pull.

The only time that I had stopped was when I had reached the cliff that my mother and father had died. Power filled the air, and it caused me to shudder, because I could still feel the affects of the words that someone had used to summon me.

"This is where they died," someone said behind me.

I turned around to see the familiar shape of Aednat Kearney, the Red Wolf before me. My whole body relaxed when I spotted her, and I bobbed my head in a nod. "Ya, this is where they died," I said. "I don't know why I was called here, but..." I shrugged my shoulder.

"You don't know why." It was more of a statement than a question.

I shook my head and sighed, looking at the cliff, digging my bare toes into wet ground. "Something in my gut is telling me to go down the cliff. I think I'll find what I'm looking for."

"What are you looking for?"

"I don't know." I couldn't help but smile a bit. "That makes this more exciting."

Adenat snorted and rolled her eyes. "You are crazy," she teased, causing me to shrug. "But, I will be going with you."

I nodded my head and moved forward until the edge and peered down. "I'm not jumping," I said, looking at the dark abyss underneath. "I don't know why I couldn't do this in the daytime, but I don't think I will be able to wait until then."

"I can always push you down," Adenat said, innocently floating behind me.

I glared at her and pointed my finger at her. "Touch me, and you will die worse than you had before," I threatened. "I don't know how to kill a ghost, but I will find the worst way to kill you."

If Aednat hadn't been dead, then I was sure that she would've became paler than she was. "Uh.... right right. I will just..." She cleared her throat and moved away from me. Nervousness filled her eyes while she flicked her gaze away from me.

I beamed at her before kneeling towards the ground. "There has to be some way to get down without being pushed," I mumbled. "Can you float and see if you can't find something that will help me get down?" I asked.

"Sure, let me do the hard work," she replied, teasingly. She started to float down and into the dark abyss. "Ok, there are foot-holes," she called up. "If you want me to, I can guide you to where they are. They seem as if they should be for a young kid, however."

"I think that they are," I replied, getting down onto my stomach and turning the other way. I started to feel my way down the cliff and cussed when I almost fell.

"Careful," Aednat said after one almost nasty fall. "You might go splat on the ground."

"How much closer am I to the ground?" I grunted, making sure that I was actually on the wall. My muscles strained from the use of them and being bunched up together. "Damn, I was a short kid."

"You are close, about maybe four feet. Why?"

"Because," I replied as I got myself ready to let go of the wall. "I was going to do this." I pushed myself off of the wall, letting go. I landed on my feet with a small 'oof', hating the fact that I wasn't even wearing shoes.

"Well, that is one way to do it," she said. "Can you use your fire power, so we can see?"

I did as she asked and let a small ball of fire dance on my hand. "It still doesn't help," I mutter, seeing that the area was still dark. I took a hesitant step forward and cursed when the fire in my hand flickered and died out.

"What the heck happened to your flame?" Aednat asked, panicking. She came close to me and peered into the darkness, tensing. "I mean, it was there."

"Why are you panicking? You are dead," I replied, giving her a weird look. If anyone was to be panicking, it should've been me.

"That is because you are not alone," a deep male voice said. Light flickered into the cave and went to a fire pit that was in the middle of a cave. A middle aged male looked at us, smiling as if he knew a secret. He stood about, 6'5 and was slim. He had red eyes that looked so much like mine and Aednat's when we were mad, that it wasn't even funny. His eyes held so much wisdom and comfort that made me want to trust him, but I knew better that to just trust a stranger.

"Who are you?" I asked, baring my teeth at him. My whole body tensed when I couldn't contact my wolf, and I hated feeling as if I had just lost a part of me that I hadn't had for a long time.

"My names is Redrick," he replied. He smirked at my raised eyebrow. "Yes, the same first Red Wolf." He bowed his head to me. "You are the new Red Wolf, and it is an honor to meet you," he praised, causing me to raise an eyebrow. He looked at Aedant, anger and disgust evident in his eyes and face. "I have no-"

"If you make her feel bad for something that she had no control over, then don't bother." I bared my teeth and glared at him, my anger spiking. I hated how people say that the Red Wolf was bad because of something that she had no control over. It wasn't her fault that she had been kidnapped at a young age and tortured til she took a bite of the first UnInnocent person. If it was anyone's fault, it was those damn people that did it to her.

"It's fine, Rylan," she said, guilt lacing her voice. She backed up behind me, and I knew that there would be no way to get her to come back to my side. Even after all of these years, she was still suffering from the fact that she had given us a bad name.

I growled a warning at her, not wanting her to talk down upon herself. "Now, what is it that you wanted, Redrick?" I all but spat, glaring at him. My body shook, and I knew that if there was a fight, I would be ready.

The male just smiled. "How protective of your friends?" he asked, moving towards us. He kept his eyes on me, not even caring about the other female at the moment.

I shifted more in front of Aedant and folded my arms across my chest, giving him one of my nasty glares. "Very," I said.

"Enough to give up your life?"

I raised an eyebrow. I had been through shit, and I knew that if it came down to it, I would gladly give my life up for my friends. "Of course," I replied. "I've done it before, I'll do it again."

Redrick nodded his head. "What about for her?" He nodded to Aednat.

"She is a friend and a confidant," I replied. "Enough about that. Why am I here?"

He pulled something out of his robe and tossed it to me. "You have strength and power that is admirable. It is no question that Elder Andrew is working for-"

"I know this all ready," I interrupted, looking at the thing that he had gave me. It was gold with different inscriptions on it. There were no directions as to how to open it, but I kind of figured that it had some really important powers. "I know this because he had "captured" me and stuck me with a fucking needle twice a day. He was trying to "tame" me for Skylar as well as this important being that I can't name because of security reasons. I'll just call him Voldemort two."

"Who?"

"No one." I looked up at him. "Now, is this it or is there anything else that I need to do? I... left on a bad note with one of my Protectors so... I need to go talk to him." I chewed on my lip, feeling guilty for arguing with Vulcan about his sister.

Redrick nodded, an understanding look in his eyes. "All right." He cleared his throat. "You are allowed to ask a question," he said. "It doesn't matter to what it is, you can ask it. Now, what it is your question?"

I chewed on my lip. I could ask something that could change my life, like what this thing was. Or I could ask about something that I had been feeling guilty about. I had no idea I had killed Thaddie's mate until he told me, and the guilt was chewing me up. I knew that it wasn't possible, but I prayed to the Goddess that she would be able to help me out. Maybe, this will be my chance.

I took a deep breath and looked down. "Will... my friend, Thaddeus Bones, have a second chance mate?" I asked. "I had to suck her blood because of the stupid group that is trying to take me to raise up that slimy God." I looked up at him, wanting to see what he thought of the issue. I didn't, however, expect him to look so surprised that I had asked about a friend of mine and not to do something that would help me.

Redrick smile and bowed his head in respect. "Yes," he said. "Red Wolf. Your friend's mate will be at the pack you are going to tomorrow. Your Vampire friend will find someone as well."

I nodded my head, feeling that this meeting was done. "All right." I nodded my head, again. I still didn't trust him, nor did I like him, but I knew that I had to respect him because he was still my elder and the Red Wolf before me. "It was nice meeting you, Red Wolf Redrick," I said. Hopefully, we will not see each other again, I added, silently.

"It was meeting you as well, Red Wolf Rylan. Good luck."

I bowed my head and walked away, followed by Aedant. My heart clenched at the thought of Thaddie having to see me at my worst, and I prayed that he was over it, even though he had all ready said he was. I prayed that he didn't hold any grudges against me or the kind that I was trying to represent.
