Chapter 10 | Dragons End

Time had felt so slow for Francis, his mind felt numb everything that happened over the five months. After he lost his arm he was sent across Staeso in prison carriage for three weeks, hardly enough food for himself let alone the other prisoners with him. Every few days during the ride Siren would go to check on him, she was assigned to watch over him during his time in the prison camp. He refused to say a word to her, all he knew is that trusting her got him into this mess. Once they reached the kingdom of the West things continued to get worse. The room they kept him in was inhumane, the walls were painted with blood, not to mention all rats and insects that crawled along the floors, it was hell. Luckily he only had to stay there for a few days, once the boat was ready they sent him off to Dragons End. The trip to the island was even worse then the back of the prison carriage. Because of the harsh weather the boat would rock back and forth constantly, causing all the prisoners to be sick most of the time. He didn't know how long his trip was going to be and after a while he lost of sense of time, minutes felt like hours and days felt like seconds, his mind unstable. The only saneness he saw in the world was Siren, whenever she was allowed she would visit his cell down on the lower deck. Her beauty stood out from the grimness of the world, whenever he saw her it would be the highlight of his day. The first few times she met with him he refused to talk, still blaming her for the loss of his arm. At times he had even forgotten that he missed a limb, Siren did such a great job healing the wound that it never hurt. Besides in the conditions he was in there wasn't any needs for his arm, all he did was stare out of his cell and imagine a better life. After some time Siren did manage to win over his trust, but deep down Francis still held a grudge against her. Siren tried to explain how Laura had manipulated her over the years and she had no control, he didn't buy any of it at first but overtime it became unclear to him weather it was twisted lies or truth. Whatever she told him was real or not didn't matter after a while, he just wanted to hear her voice, it brought warmth and relief to his broken life.
His time aboard came to an end, he was unsure on the amount of time they spent on the sea, could of been weeks or months. When the guards dragged him onto the top deck he saw the days light, out in instinct he tried shielding his eyes with his arms but soon remembered that wouldn't be possible. The first thing he noticed when he look around was the shier amount of snow, now he knew that he must of been aboard for at least five weeks. When his attention focused on the details around him he began to realize the horrific nature of the place. Scattered in the ocean were dozens of large knife shaped rocks, he was surprised on how the boat avoided them. The water itself wasn't visible, it was shrouded in the faintest layer of mist. The prison camp seemed to be recently made, the large towns visible over the gates walls were still under construction.. The terrain the camp was built on was close to the shore, it was wet soil and mostly sand, purposely tiring to walk through. The large metal gates to the camp were open but it seemed no prisoner tried to escape. He could only see through the open gate, the rest of the camp was blocked out by the large wooden walls, the tops of it had thousands of tiny spikes. To the left of the camp was a path that led into mist. On the right, close to the shore, was what seemed to be a training ground, or something, his young mind couldn't understand it. The boat had been parked beside a dodgy looking pier, dark in color. The Captain hocked all the prisoners up to a long chain and marched them off the plank and onto the narrow pier, some almost fell In, coming so close to pull the rest of them in. Francis turned to see Siren still on the boat, he was unsure if she was staying on the island or not, this made him more scared then he already was.
Five minutes of marching through the wet soil already took a toll on Francis, he hadn't used his legs in weeks, the pain it gave off was unbearable. The prisoners around him seemed to feel the same way, with every step they took a few men in the line would groan in pain. They stopped just outside the main gate, a group of guards walked out and studied all of the prisoners, making sure to be as ruff with them as possible. When one guard came across Francis he didn't search or threaten him, it seemed the guard noticed how broken he already was and had pity for the poor boy. Once they knew all of the prisoners were good to be sent in they started the march again. When he entered the camp he felt sick, the metallic small of blood, mixed in with human feces almost made him vomit. The actually work the slaves appeared to be doing was mining, their were many different tunnels leading into little hills on the ground. If he saw this a few months ago he would of been intrigued, he always was with these kind of things. Now that he had grown older and gone through all of the torture he didn't care for such things anymore. All of the slaves didn't care for the new arrivals, not a single look was given by any of them. Francis noticed that all of the slaves were different races, not just wolves like himself. He saw a few dozen humans, some elves and even some Vampires. Over near one of the mining outposts he swore he saw a weird humanoid with tusks but he just summed that up to his delusional mind. Thinking into the camp more made him realize something, what would his role here be. He was missing his main arm, he couldn't swing a pickaxe even if he wanted to. Dark thoughts of them torturing him ran through his mind, he believed that if he couldn't do what they wanted then they would hurt him. He thought to himself maybe this was Octavians intention, maybe he took his arm knowing that the prison camp would torture him for it. All questions would be answered soon, he entered the main building of the camp, unsure of what they would do with him.

Leon and the other members of his group sat around a table. The room they were in was known to the Guardians as the war room, an incredibly large room with large tables for different groups of Guardians. On Leon's table were the people he had grown accustomed to over the past five months, although he didn't know them as well as he would of liked. On the far side of the table was Sam, her appearance had stayed pretty much the same since she joined. Somewhere on the table was Az but he wasn't in sight for him. Leon's appearance had changed quite a lot over the five months, his once baby smooth face was covered with a thick black beard. On his chin and on his forehead he had little scars. The intense training he had gone through seemed to have payed off, these long months had formed him into an adult. All up he had been part of the Guardians for almost six months if he included the three weeks before his mothers death, those weeks were easy compared to what he's been through now. After the long wait he had finally been informed of a mission that him and two others would be assigned to, all of his group had gathered to the table to receive the news from Alex. All of them talked among themselves, Alex hadn't shown up so they had plenty of time to spare. Leon didn't chat with anyone, he remained silent and lost in thought, all he wanted to do was find out what his mission was. After ten minutes of discussion Alex finally walked in, the table fell silent immediately.
Alex stood tall and proud at one end of the table, he stared at all of them and smiled.
"My Guardians, the time has come. I'm aware that quite a number of you haven't had their first mission yet, quite frankly there was no missions to give." He smiled and glanced over at Leon for only a second.
"But now I have a mission for you all. Recently, in the City of Lass. There have been quite a number of murders, this is common for a kingdom of that scale but these murders are different. We don't know how the victims died, their bodies have just been... Empty, no trace of life in them whatso ever. Normally we would get the local guards to handle this but now its started to get worse. The bodies of children have been found, some children have even gone missing, presumably taken by whatever's doing this." He paused from his speech, giving time for the information to sink in.
"I know you all were probably expecting to fight in a battle of some kind, sorry to give you false hopes, but a mission like this is just as important, we do this for the peoples safety." Around half of the men let out a "yeah" when he said that. Alex continued on.
"The city of Laas is quite a large place with many different cultures and lifestyles mixed together, the slums, the race of men who control the middle class and the Angels who own the best of the best. Ill assign grounds of you to different areas of the city, to cover more ground." They all nodded amongst themselves, they approved of the idea.
"Now since there's twenty of you ill split you into five groups. Firstly." He pulled out a long list of names and began to read them out loud.
"Group One. Desmond, Connor, Carl, Maxell and Stella. You will be assigned to the high class." The five that were chosen cheered, they must of known each other well Leon thought to himself.
"Group Two. Az, Sam, Myra, Rex and Leon. You will be assigned to the slums." Rex and Myra called out and cheered. Before that point Leon hadn't even noticed the two in his group, that really put into prospective how little he knew these people. He glanced over at Sam, she was already staring, her facial expression a very nice one. He looked down the table to Az, he was just sitting there silently, every once and a while looking up at Rex then looking down again. Leon though about his own time there and wondered what Az actually did, half the time in training Az was no where in sight, always absent and the worst time, he was surprised that he even came to this meetup. Alex continued on with his list, Leon didn't focus on the names, his mind was busy thinking of his mission. What could be killing these innocents, a man like himself? A werewolf? A Vampire? There was so many questions he had about the case but no answers, guess that's what his job is anyway, to find whos doing this and put an end to it.

The sound of a metal hatch sliding open woke Tara. She had no idea of where she was, looking around the room in a panic. She appeared to be locked in a tight cell, not small enough to be cramp but small enough to make someone feel uneasy. The only light came from the open hatch, he gaze drew to it but she couldn't piece together who was on the other end.
"H-Hello." She whimpered. The heavy metal door slid open, causing beams of light to obscure her vision. She raised her arm to the light, after a few seconds her eyes slowly adjusted to the change of lighting. An all to familiar face stood in the cell with her, the woman's long white hair and her bluish skin sent a shiver down her spine.
"Amelia!" She launched forward towards her only to be pulled back by the chain around her neck, it shocked her that she hadn't even noticed it till then.
"Calm down Tara i'm only here to talk." Amelia said, her voice seemed strangely relaxed. Tara began to settle and take in more of Amelia's features, one thing in particular caught her attention. Amelia was pregnant, and not early stages pregnant more like close to six months pregnant. Tara gave a face of disgust while staring at her belly.
"What sort of monster would have a child with you." Amelia laughed then sighed, it seemed Tara's comment entertained her but also cut deep.
"Well that monster would be your brother." Tara's face went from a cheeky smirk to a shocked expression. She stuttered, trying to find the right words to ask. Amelia grew tired of Tara's childish attitude so she cut her off.
"Yes, Leon and I had been fucking for some months before he left, didn't think I would get pregnant however." Tara goes to but in but Amelia cuts her off again.
"And no he doesn't know about it, I don't intend for him to." Tara was out of words, just the idea of her brother and her mums killing being together gave her a feeling of disgust. She wanted to ask way with as many questions she could about her pregnancy but knew there were more serious things to ask. Right then it hit her, Adam and Mary.
"Where the fuck are they!" She screamed at Amelia, lashing out while doing so. This caused Amelia to drop the nice act, with one great swing she back handed Tara's face, cutting her cheek with her nails.
"First off, don't you dare speak to your queen like that again, secondly, who's they?" This enraged Tara even more, instead of lashing out again she just screamed louder.
"Adam and Mary, where are they." At the end of her sentence she growled, turning to her more primal instincts.
"Oh them... Well, there was only one thing we could do with traitors." Tara let of a blood curdling scream, it could be heard all throughout the castle. Tears flowed everywhere, there was no way of stopping it. The only two she could trust the most were gone... She had nothing now.
"Tara... Don't feel like your to blame for their death."
"I know im not to fucking blame... And don't you dare talk to me about their deaths, your the sick fuck who got them killed." She continued to cry, nothing could calm her. Amelia grew tired of Tara's more human emotions, with one swift motion she grabbed Tara's jaw and twisted her head down so Amelia looked down at her.
"Shut... Up. If I hear another word come out of your mouth from this moment on ill hang you, just like I hung your mother." All Tara wanted to do after hearing this was scream, but she couldn't. Amelia let go of her face and stepped away from the sobbing child.
"Don't worry, in the next few days youll feel much better. We have a show for the public soon and youll be our big star. You will represent the peace between races, the peace between Werewolves... And Vampires. Amelia smirked then quickly left. The door slammed shut, moments later the hatch did too. Tara was left in complete darkness, lost in her dark thoughts. She cried silently into her arms, trying not to make a sound out of fear of death. All she wanted to do was be in the company of Adam and Mary, if she had the chance she would love them like parents and not keep them distant... If only she knew what would happen...
