Chapter 8: Is this the start of something new?

"Every day is a fresh beginning; Every morn is a world made new."

"What's happening Ai'Pete? Why this sudden cleaning frenzy? Is Khun Nu coming again to trouble Ai'Vegas?" Porche asked, as he watched Pete direct the servants, who ran around trying to clear up things at his command. "No, no, Rain is coming!" Pete shouted, not caring how crazy he sounded. "Rain? But the weather seems pretty pleasant today?" Porche looked puzzled. "Ai'Satt! The boy Phayu likes is coming!" Pete screeched, almost out of his mind with worry as he wanted to ensure that everything was perfect. "What? Varain? Varain Kirigun? Are you serious?" Porche was thrilled and worried at the same time. "But why is he coming? Did you ask?" "No Porche, and that too, he is coming with his parents. Moreover, he has asked us not to tell Phayu or Pai. I am seriously worried too!" he looked at Porche, tension clear on his face. "I will go and tell Kinn, and ask him to join us too," Porche said, patting Pete on the back, before he picked up his phone to call his husband.

By noon, everything was ready. The Kiriguns were expected at 1 pm, for lunch, but both Pete and Vegas didn't want to take any chances. Porche and Kinn were also waiting with bated breath to find out what would be the outcome of the meeting. What did they want? What did Rain want? At exactly 12.45, the bell rang. "Are they here already? They are early!" hissed Pete. "Can you chill? We are all set. We are ready for them," Vegas tried to calm his husband. "Calm down Pete. We will find out soon enough what is it that they want from us," Kinn patted Pete on the back, as Porche went to open the door. He came back with Rain and his fathers. Everyone stood up and waiied to each other. Rain was especially hugged by Pete, who couldn't find someone cuter than this boy and was thrilled to see him again.

"Please, please be seated. We are so happy to have you here, all of you. Even Rain," Vegas said to Tharn and Type and Rain, as he smiled at the young boy, who bowed in return. His smile was enough to light up the room, and the Theerpanayakul men were bowled over by the beautiful boy. They were so excited to know why this meeting was taking place. In their hearts, Vegas and Pete and even Kinn and Porche desperately wanted Rain to be a part of their family, so they wanted to do everything right by Rain! "What can we offer you? Coffee? Lunch? Everything is ready, so whatever you need," Pete said, with his trademark beautiful smile. "We don't need anything Khun Pete. Rain here wanted to talk to all of you, so we decided to reach out to you," Tharn said, in a polite tone. "Please, no need to be so formal. Just Pete will do," Pete said. "So Rain, what did you want to talk to us about?" Vegas asked, smiling at Rain.

"I would like to speak to you about P'Phayu," Rain said. "What about him?" Porche asked, worry lacing his tone. "Please don't worry. It's nothing serious, just something I wanted to discuss with you," Rain said with a smile. He then went on to tell them everything that had happened between Phayu and him since the event. He told them what his friends had said and also what he had discussed with his parents. The only thing he held back on was the fact that he was falling in love with Phayu, because that was something still very private in his head. He did not want anyone to know about it yet. "So Rain, what do you think?" Kinn asked him. "Khun Kinn, I will be very honest with you as well, just like I was with P'Phayu. His reputation precedes him, and so does yours. You can't talk about P'Phayu without knowing about your family. So I just want to know what you think. My family and I are regular people. And being with P'Phayu will affect all of us, not only my family, but the families and friends associated with us. I know something really bad must have happened to him, otherwise he would not have become like this. I will not ask you what it was, because I want it to be his story to tell. However, I do have one question. Is this son of your family worth the trouble? That's all I want to know," Rain spoke clearly and concisely, raising his standard in the eyes of the Theerpanayakul family. They were extremely impressed by the way Rain spoke, mainly because they were forced to ponder on his question.

"Rain, up until 6 years ago, Phayu was a wonderful, bright and vivacious child who looked at the world with rose tinted glasses. But something happened, that only Phayu can talk to you about, that changed him into a moody, miserable idiot. He lost his spark. But few days ago, at the Freshman Orientation, he saw you, and we saw that spark in him again. His eyes lit up like never before. I don't know if he is worth the trouble, but it gives me hope that you are catalyst that will bring our son back," Pete said. "However," Vegas said, ignoring Pete's glare, "we are not going to place this burden on your shoulders. You are too young to take on this responsibility, and we don't want you to be hurt in anyway by the process." "Rain, Phayu maybe the son of this family, but that doesn't make him right for what he did in our eyes. We will never place any expectations on you, because for us, if just you being in front of him can start this change in him, then we would request you to just be with him, no strings attached," Porche said, the sadness for Phayu clear in his eyes.

Rain sat quietly, listening to what everyone said, his gaze unfocused. When he felt the silence of the room, he looked around, and the first face he saw was Kinn's. Kinn smiled at him. "I know everyone have said their piece, but ultimately, it is only and only your decision, your choice. Whatever you decide, will be the final," Kinn said, in his 'my word is law' tone. Type put his hand on Rain's shoulder. "What are you thinking lukchay? What do you want to do?" Rain thought carefully before replying. "I would like to think about it. I will tell my decision to Phi first, because he should definitely be the first to know, right? And I promise to keep you and Dad in the loop Pa, I promise," Rain said with a smile to his parents.

"Rain, we don't know what your response to Phayu will be, but that notwithstanding, we would love to have you as a part of our family. To be honest, we don't really care what response Phayu gets, but we liked you from the first day we saw you. So we would love it if you keep in touch with us. And I say this on behalf of the entire family," Porche said, his smile hesitant. "Of course Khun Porche! It would be my honour to be a part of your family. And I will let you also know my response to P'Phayu," Rain's cute, bunny smile bloomed again. "Aww, you are such a cute bunny," Pete spoke up. Rain blushed, and shyly hid his face.

"We should take our leave Khun... Kinn," Tharn said. "Yes, it's time to go home. We have taken up a lot of your time," Type started. "No, no, not at all. We are thrilled to have you here, and you are always welcome to come visit us, anytime you want," Vegas immediately said. "Thank you everyone, for your patience. I am glad I was able to meet you all," Rain waiied politely as everyone stood up, the Kirigun family ready to leave, and the Theerpanayakuls ready to see them off. "Please visit again soon Rain," Pete said, hugging the boy once again.

"What do you think Vegas?" Pete asked later, after the Kiriguns had exchanged numbers with them and left. "What will Rain's response be?" he sounded worried. "I don't know Pete. He is an 18 year old boy, who is just starting out in life. For us to expect anything from him, seems really unfair baby. Let him decide on his own," Vegas said, putting his arm around his husband. Vegas really loved Pete and Phayu was their only child, beyond beloved. He knew exactly why his husband was so worked up about anything that concerned Phayu. They had nearly lost him 6 years ago, and any other heartbreak would destroy him and them completely. But although he did try to convince Pete otherwise, he had himself really put his trust in Rain, hoping that he would be their saving grace.

Kirigun House, later that evening –

"Did Rain come down for dinner Tharn?" Type asked. "No ter, not yet. Don't worry, I just called him," Tharn replied. "How can I not worry? I did not say anything in front of him, but looks like it was a bad idea to meet the Theerpanayakuls. I don't want him to do anything under pressure," Type said, a bit of anger lacing his words. "Pa," Tharn and Type both turned around to look at their son. "Yes lukchay?" Type asked. "I don't think you need to stress about anything. I know, as my fathers, the worry you have for me will never go, but in this matter, I know what I am doing. And I will not take any decision without thinking it through. I may seem like a child, but I am not. And no one, least of all P'Phayu or his family can manipulate me. If I choose to give P'Phayu a chance, it will be solely my choice," Rain tried to comfort his fathers. Tharn and Type both hugged him, and it was Tharn who said laughing, "our son has grown up on us Ai'Type!"

Chula Uni, the next day –

When Sky and Sig entered their classroom ahead of Yihwa and Por, they saw Rain sitting alone at his desk and writing musical notes as he strummed on his guitar. "Ai'Rain! How are you puen? And what happened yesterday?" Sky asked, as he moved towards Rain with worry clear on his face. "Hey, hey, calm down!" Rain said, laughing. Just as he started speaking, Nut rushed into the room. "What happened? What happened?" he said breathlessly. "He hasn't said anything yet, don't worry," Yihwa patted Nut on the shoulder. "So, what happened?" Sig asked. Rain told them about his discussion with his parents and their visit to the Theerpanayakul mansion. He told them everything he was feeling. When he stopped, Sky put his arm around him and asked, "Rain? What do you want? What does your heart say? Do you want to change him?" "Ai'Sky, I had read a quote somewhere. 'When we try to change a person, we deserve everything we get.' I am not interested in changing him, nor do I want to pressurise myself into thinking that I should be the one to take him back to his family. If I accept him, and give him a chance, it will be solely because I love him, and because I want to be a part of his life, and want him to be a part of mine. That's all," Rain said, with his usual serene smile.
