CHAPTER THREE

"Do you love him?" Charles spoke abruptly leaving both of them, mouth gaped. Charles didn't run or choose to ignore he is confronted with the one thing he fears the most: his beloved Gwendolyn had feelings for Uther Pendragon.

"She doesn't love you," said Uther. "She's never loved you. She loves me."  Gwendolyn stared widely at Uther confession, it isn't true.

"Please don't!" She interrupted helplessly. "Please, Charles." Immediately, she was grabbed by Uther by the wrist's  refusal to let her run to Charles' side, she couldn't free herself. Uther must be mad if he thinks, she loves him. She is only sixteen already a mother to twins most importantly she is married already.

"This isn't true!"  exclaimed Charles. Uther smirked satisfyingly by his outburst. "Oh really? Gwendolyn and I were betrothed when we were younger, she was to become my wife. Our father's arranged it. We were once in love," Uther taunted Charles leaning closer to Gwendolyn trying to kiss her on her lips bringing her closer. Gwendolyn kept struggling trying to lean away as far as possible.

"Uther!"

Both of them turn to face Charles who seems on the very watery eyes. "Let her go. Gwendolyn is the mother of my children. If you respect her. You let her go from your embrace." Slowly, Uther let go of her hand leaving Gwendolyn to run to Charles embrace. They both looked back at him feeling disgusted.

"Gwendolyn one day, you'll love me. I don't care how many years or decades. I know I'll have you heart beside me." Uther smiled when speaking. Charles took her hand, grabbing her outside his chambers.

"Your so stupid!" He began speaking leaving dumbfounded. He then proceeded to kiss her on the lips. He didn't let go of her. She leaned back gasping for air. "Charles?" He furrowed his eyebrows. "Why did you come to Uther? You should have come to me." He then leaned to kiss her again only for her to stop him. "I was. I needed to speak to you."

Charles coughed. "It's about my marriage. Isn't it?" She nodded. "Come to my chambers." They both walked to where Charles was staying. He closed the doors. "Look, Gwendolyn. It was an order commanded by my father. Uther had pressured him to make sure I married her already within a month."

"What are you planning to do?" Gwendolyn spoke sitting on the bed. Charles didn't know what to say. He went beside her sitting down. "I can't do anything. I'll marry her, once she gives birth to my heir, I'll dispose of her." Immediately, Gwendolyn got up furious to know of his plans. "You're going to marry her? What about our children? Our kids? Haven't you thought once, how I will feel?" She spoke up feeling betrayed.  Charles looked at her unsure. "Gwendolyn, you know I must. You don't even let me see our kids. You claim because of the elders. I love them with all my heart but if you can't let me see my children. What's the point? Gwendolyn?"

Gwendolyn felt lost not knowing what to say to him. If she'll tell the truth, Charles will never love their children ever again.

"There is not point. I thought you loved me?" That's when Charles felt his head becoming nauseous. "I do. I do love you, with all my heart." He bend the knee grabbing her hand placing a kiss. "Your the most amazing person, I ever met." Gwendolyn sighed. "My father died. They're spreading the ashes in Ash Fork within next month. I'll be attending with Lenora and the children. You could see them."

Charles began to smile widely. "Of course. My condolences, Gwendolyn." He soon replaced his smile with sad frown. "If any case, I would be happy to see them. My son and daughter."

Gwendolyn sighed. "They'll be happy if you don't get married and stay with us." She looked up with a blank expression, getting up. She began walking away leaving him to frown at her request. Of course, he loved her. This cruel world doesn't work like that. He is to marry another while she will go on with her life caring for their children.

Gwendolyn dreaded her time being in the castle. The feast she attended had left a sorrow of guilt. It was a different paste, she never thought would occur, Uther would spare glances at her. Uther, mother would constantly send her glares. Lenora was right. She should have never come. She tried to convince Charles not to marry, she failed.

It's been two weeks, she left Pendragon Castle. She made it to Dewdenn. "Hurried, I need everything packed." Gwendolyn ordered. Lenora packed all of the toys and clothes that belonged to Milo and Mal. It's been difficult weeks for her. She's been constantly packing for the funeral for her father. She is going back to her home. AshFolk, where she grew up and met long-life friends. Where her father would be buried, she would say her final goodbye.

"I suggest you wouldn't leave. Do it for the kids, Gwendolyn?" Lenora asked. Gwendolyn's eyes sting onto her. "I can't just stay here. The elders will never know. My children will come with me. Mal and Milo will be beside me. When they buried my father, they must be present. I'm a woman. I'm not going to be judged by these shriveled onions." Gwendolyn finished packing her items.

"Charles will be there. He promised to be there for the kids. I cannot deny it to him." Lenora looked at her worriedly and kept packing.

"You must know you will upset the elders." Lenora spoke sternly. Gwendolyn turned to face her. "It's a chance, I'm willing to take."

She traveled in a carriage. She was accompanied by Melvas, a good friend of her father. "It's a shame your father had to go this early."

"It is." She replied stern. Will this be the beginning of the end or the ending that she never thought will happen? In two weeks, they arrived in AshFolk, she watched in amazement. Melvas helped carry little Milo, while she held little Mal. "Isn't it beautiful, Gwendolyn?" Melvas spoke, she smiled seeing the sight of her childhood home.

Memories were created here. Something she will never forget.

"It's good to be home again."
