CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

It was a dark, freezing night. And then, a faint sound issued into the late night silence. Slowly, it grew louder, before becoming a loud roar, echoing through the chilly night. In the distance, a large shadow loomed in the heavens. Later on, at the wedding celebration, a band was playing music on the balcony of the hall. Gwendolyn tried looking around for Charles. He wasn't nowhere near. Her children were gone as well. "Alice!" She stopped her handmaiden, who held her posture straight.

"Yes, milady." She looked around. "Where is Charles? Where is my children?" Alice looked around unsure what to say. She looked around, she didn't know what was up.

Gwendolyn looked to the side, she began walked to the other side seeing Uther beside Lady Lynette. Her eyes were focus on them. She felt her heart ache, she looked around like they were expecting something to happen.

She looked around worriedly before turning back to look him in the eyes. Charles was there. She ran towards him. "There you are." Charles touched her hair, smiling at her. She stared at him closely for a moment. She placed a hand on the side of his face, leaning forward before pressing her lips against his. Knowing that if they kissed any longer, people would start to look at them, Charles pulled away, looking into Gwendolyn eyes with such love and admiration, "I love you more than you'll ever know." he told her quietly and smiled in return, "You being my wife and the mother of my children is the greatest gift I could ever ask for."

Gwendolyn responded, beginning to talk quieter as she began her love confession, "I will never stop loving you, Charles, no matter what obstacles come our way. Being with you has made me the happiest I've been my entire life. I cannot wait to raise a child with you. You must know that." He presses a kiss on her hand.

"We have to leave, now." He than whispered causing her to frowned. "What?" She asked stepping back. "The children are safe. They left. I order it. I need you to go, now."

"No, Charles, please. What's going on?" She asked not able to understand.

"You grace," Lunette spoke up, addressing Charles as the music finally came to a stop.

Than, Roslyn loudly gasped, causing Gwendolyn to turn to her in concern. Her mother suddenly stood up from her seat and slapped someone across the face at full force, prompting him to run to the other side of the hall, "Gwendolyn!" Roslyn called out in concern, glancing between her and Charles.

Immediately stood up, knowing her gut feeling was right. A knight rushed toward Gwendolyn, grabbing her before pressing a knife against her throat. She gripped onto his arms, attempting to pull him off, but it was no use. As Charles started to approach his wife to help her, the band lifted up the crossbows they were formerly hiding. Without hesitation, they started to shoot arrows at Charles, hitting him numerous times.

She needed to help Charles. She refused to let him die because of her. She would let herself die before she allowed that to happen.

"Charles!" She shouted out, tears welled in her eyes. She started to run toward him, only to suddenly stumble as an arrow found its way into her right shoulders. She cried out, gripping onto the arrow embedded into her shoulder. She knew she couldn't take it out just yet, it would cause bleeding that would weaken her before she could help Charles.

Gwendolyn was in shock over Charles. As the massacre continued, she could see Lunette smiled gleefully and sipped from her cup of wine, finding pleasure in all the chaos and bloodshed.

She sudden was thrown onto the floor causing her to pain. She could see Charles began to crawl toward , who was kneeling on the ground. She looked up at Charles, teary-eyed, "Gwendolyn," He managed to get out, continuing to pull himself toward her with all the strength she had. "Gwendolyn," She cried out, tears beginning to spill from her eyes as she crawled toward her husband, wincing in pain. She cried in pain on the floor, she heard her mother screams, as she was hit in the arrow calling for her name.

"Oh, god. No!" She cried out. Slowly, someone grabbed her from the other side, she struggled to break free.

"Gwendolyn!" He managed to get out as he attempted to get to her and save her. Gwendolyn turned to Charles with tears in her eyes as a knight suddenly reappeared in front of Charles. He than thrusting a dagger into his chest. While still staring at her, Charles collapsed to the floor, causing Gwendolyn to scream hysterically, "No!" She screamed out, struggling in the men's grip.
