Chapter 51: And then there were four
It was Famis who noticed Pestilence approaching first, and Famine, feeling her steed speeding up out of nowhere, looked around to find out why. So she was the second one to see, and the rest did when they noticed her wide grin.
"What's going on?" False asked, eyes narrowed at the thin woman.
Famine cackled, "My brother seems to think he'll win for once, he probably already has lost once today, but I'm not letting that happen."
"Is that why we're speeding up?" Scar asked, hands holding onto Famis' boney sides in a deathgrip.
"Exactly!" Famine laughed.
Impulse, ever the worrier, wrapped an arm around Zedaph, who was in front of him, and then his tail around Tango, who was sitting behind the dragon hybrid. "So much for being ancient and powerful beings as old as can be." He muttered, eye twitching as he thought about the very childlike competition Famine and Pestilence seems to have going on.
"Oh we're still all of that!" Said Ancient and old as can be being called over her shoulder, "But we also like to have fun whenever we meet up! You all just happen to be the only people to witness it!" And without saying anything more she directed Famis in a dive, to make them reach their goal faster and to beat Pestilence. But going into a dive, also meant that they were now headed towards the ground very quickly and very fast.
It didn't take a genius to figure this out, so Zedaph's cry of, "I'm too beautiful to die!" echoed by Tango's, "Ditto!" came to no surprise to anyone. Impulse, one of the calmer ones, just held them tighter but also looked up at their competition. Flying tigers? Okay...that's, new. They looked fast, and without anything heavy on their back they could maybe beat a bone wyvern. "Without anything heavy" being the keyword here, all the flying felines clearly had passengers, most even having two, no way would they win with such weights weighing them down.
And as predicted, they won. And by quite a bit too, the tigers were barely within hearing by the time they had all climbed off and gotten reacquainted with the ground. When the flying tigers had finally landed Famine stood in front, her face the definition of smug times ten. "Seems like you were too slow, brother, which means I won."
Pestilence glared at her as he dismounted Ria, he then helped TFC down before matching right up to her. Standing next to each other the two created quite the contrast, with her dark hair to his blond one, and his tan skin to her pale one. Though, somehow, you could still see that there was some form of blood-relations between the two of them. "This time. Plus you just got lucky, I had to slow down to make sure one of them didn't fall off, if that hadn't happened then I would have won." He stated, glaring up at her, she glared right back.
"Oh bullshit!" And so the argument began. At first the two Hermit/EVO groups just stood there, but then Scar ran up to Cub for a good hug and kiss and soon they were all conversing together as the two Horsemen argued like schoolyard children. That was at least the sight Lady War walked in on. She raised an eyebrow at her siblings before turning to the person closest to her, which happens to be Wels, and motioned to the two.
"Famine got here before Pestilence, which made her 'win' the race. Pestilence then said that she only won because Jevine nearly fell off and he had to slow down to help him, she called bs on that and then they started arguing like this." He explained, saying it all like it was as normal as discussing the weather.
War sighed in that "my siblings are dumbasses" way before stalking over to the two and plucking them up by the colors of their respective wear and holding them an arm length away from each other, which worked thanks to her bigger frame. "Alright you two! You're both good but I'm the best, now how about we get the mortals inside so they can get some good food in them? The tiger and the sorceress have been getting bored making food for just five people."
"Five people?" Stress asked, she locked worried eyes with False, "Aren't the others back yet?"
Lady War shook her head, hair falling over her shoulders as she did so, "No, not yet. But they'll surely be along soon, so don't you worry." She gave Stress a reassuring smile before walking back to the cabin, Famine and Pestilence still glaring at each other as they dangled from War's grip. Famis and Ria walked with them obediently, Ria's clones fading away now that they weren't needed anymore.
It was silent for a short while before Ren said, "To the cabin then!" And so they walked after the three, five if you count the wyvern and winged tiger, to the cabin they were staying in.
=-= With team 1 =-=
Bdubs was the first one up, seeing as he was the one who went to bed first and a good time at that, and Keralis followed soon after. Then came EX, but he stubbornly stayed where he was refusing to move from where he had found the comfiest spot. Python was up next, and he was soon followed by Solidarity, who was waking up from all the shifting and small talk that now filled the library. Netty and Martyn were next, and after them X woke up, but since he was still cuddled up to Joe he didn't move at all. But just a few minutes later the poet woke up on his own.
That was everyone, expect one. Doc was still asleep, and by God was he asleep. They tried to gently poke and slap him, but it did nothing. Then came rolling him over, same results. Whispering weird things in his ears? That got them incoherent German babble out of the sleeping hybrid. After a while X had enough and just picked him up and threw him over his shoulder, he looked up from where he was adjusting his grip of the hybrid to be met with the bewildered faces of the rest of the team. "What? We couldn't just leave him here! Also can someone arrange a pile of pillows and covers under the railing?"
"Why?" Asked Keralis as he did the thing he was asked to, dragging everything into a pile and then placing it under the railing.
"Well I'm not going to drop him on the cold floor." Xisuma said with an eye-roll, walking to the second floor, "Am I over the pile?" He asked after a short while of trying to get in a good position.
He received a double thumbs up from Bdubs so he took Doc off his shoulder and onto his arms, he then held the cyborg over the edge before tilting his arms and letting the green German fall. Said man hit the pile with a thumb, a startled gasp leaving his mouth as he was drowned unexpectedly in pillows and blankets. As he emerged a blanket came up with him, the material wrapped around his shoulders, and a snickering laugh escaped Bdubs, "Looks like you got the black one in the end!"
Doc looked down, and sure enough, the blanket around him was the black one. A snort slipped out of him, and soon another, and another, until he was full out laughing. The others joined in soon too, and the entire room broke down into a laughing feast.
It took them a while to calm down, but they eventually did. The blankets and pillows were put back where they were found and they all made sure everything else was as it was when they first got there. Xisuma decided that they should probably start heading deeper in, pointing out the only door in the library that was located at the back, as the only way they could go from here. So the group headed through it and into a dark halfway, thankfully this one had enough light to still see. As they walked down the corridor they noticed a light at the end (heh, the light at the end of the tunnel), which could only mean one of two things; 1) it was a very bright glowing wall, or 2) an opening to a lit room. Their guess was on option 2.
And they were right, it was a room. A throne room/ballroom combination made out of dark grays and near blacks, the lights were a beautiful warm orange, light the entire room in a soft, welcoming, glow. But that wasn't what they were focused on, no, all their attention was the dark clad, bone mask wearing, person standing at the center of the room. The person turned to them and raised his hand up halfway in a small wave.
"It's good to see you all again." Death said, a smile apparent in their voice. "It's been awhile."
<Woo! This was fun to make! No stress in the house of writing :3 I'm not regretting taking the break, it was nice. Also, Death is back! :D
Uh, yeah I have nothing more to really add, so stay safe and have a wonderful time everyone!>
