Chapter 50: Almost there

A silence spread among the group, but after a few moments you could hear Tango hissing out, "This is the worst timeline."

"Guess we're doing puzzles then," Mini sighed. "Fly us up dragon man! We might as well get this over with as soon as we can."

In total it took about twenty minutes to get everyone to the top floor. And, just as Impulse said, it was filled with puzzles. The centerpiece to the room was a statue of a three headed hydra, each head had gemstones for eyes, all except the middle head. Over the silver statue glowing text spelling out "Find the missing puzzle pieces from the puzzles around this room and you will achieve what you wish for".

"Well, I guess we're going to solve some puzzles then!" Zedaph exclaimed, already headed towards one of the puzzles in the room. Everyone followed his lead, each person looking for puzzles best suited for them. Unfortunately most puzzles were riddle based, so there wasn't a lot of diversity.

They spend what feels like days -it was actually just hours- trying to solve the puzzles but none were doable, as soon as they thought they had one it turned out to be wrong. Iskall had just failed just another puzzle when he cried out, "Ugh! None of these are doable! The puzzle piece can't be here!"

Suddenly a door like portals opens in front of the hydra statue, the two heads on the sides eyes glowing brightly (green/blue and red respectively). The text changed to say, "And you're all here to get the last pieces".

"Should-should we go in?" Tango asks hesitantly, red eyes scanning the portal as his tail flickered with uncertainty.

Scar shrugged. "What else can we do? Go back and hope for something better tomorrow?"

"Okay, so we're doing this." The fire elemental said, and with a straight back he walked towards the portal. His boyfriend immediately made their way to his sides, they're doing this together. Behind them everyone fell into place, splitting up into duos as they did so.

"This feels a lot like when we jump through the portals." Zee comments to Mini, his partner for the portal walk. "Just, way less certain of the destination."

"Tell me about it."

Everyone held their breath when the ZIT trio walked through, and when everything seemed to be fine the rest followed. Once through it took the group a bit to adjust to the new very bright room, but once they did they took in their surroundings.

The room looked a bit like Stress' throne room, in its core concept at least, it was a room with tables for feasts and a throne for a queen or king. On the tables what could only be described as pathetic amounts of food were laid out, there was barely enough food to feed a family or three, let alone everyone who would be seated at the tables. And the food itself didn't look all that good either, barely passable for food even. And instead of Stress' stone walls this room was purely made out of quartz and accented with diamonds.

"What the hell is all of this?" Asked False, eyes wide as she looked around the room.

Suddenly a loud feminine voice echoed out, "Welcome travellers! To the feats of famines!"

All eyes turned to the throne, where they saw a skeletally thin woman dressed in a dragon's blood red (nice red color really) dress with deep lapis lazuli blue accents all over. Her hair was long and black, with blue shining in it as sunlight from the window behind her, on her head a crown of deer horns rested. Had she not been so skeletal she would have probably been a very beautiful person, but with her sunken features and dull and matted hair she was far from pretty.

"Are you Famine?" Zedpah asked hesitantly, keeping close to his lovers.

She smiled at him, the gesture kind but her features not so kind to her face as skin pulled and dragged over bone. "Indeed I am. And I can assume you're all the group sent to retrieve me?"

"You know why we're here?" Tango questioned, looking at her in surprise.

Famine rolled her eyes playfully. "Me and my siblings might not meet up physically very often, but we do still talk."

"Lady War told you we were coming!" Mumbo shouted out, figuring out how she knew. "But if she could talk to you, then why didn't she just ask you to come to us? Why make us come all this way?"

"We were bored and wanted to have some fun." She explained with a delicate shtug.

"Have some fun?" Iskall hissed, eyes narrowed at the horsemen(woman) in front of him. "My boyfriend is being mindcontrolled by a fucking deity who tortured him! Do you not care at all?! For someone dealing with such a sensitive topic as a famine you must understand that you can just joke like this in these situations!"

The Swede had taken a threatening step forwards, but a deep growling stopped him from advancing. He couldn't see it, but he damn well knew a dragons growl when he heard one.

"Are you done?" Famine asked, her tone only holding the slightest bit if bite to it. "Good. Now, seeing as my little joke of sorts didn't really work I will tell you the truth. We wanted to test you all, to see if you were worthy of our help or not."

"Your jokes are terrible." Taurtis commented drily.

"I realize that now." Famine sighed. She then stood up from her throne, "Now, are you all ready to go? Pestilence should be heading out soon too, and I won't let him win again."

After getting nods from everyone in the grup she motioned for something behind her throne. A big reptilian skeleton head rose up from behind, the sound of bones clattering together echoed as the massive beast rose from its laying position. With surprisingly gentle steps the living pile of bones walked out from behind the throne, the claws on its wings clicking as well as the ones on its feet. All of the creature was bone except the wing membrane on its wings, obviously.

Who knew Famine had a bone wyvern for a steed?

"Climb on everyone, he won't bite." Famine encouraged. To show the wyvern wasn't dangerous she walked up to it, and as the wyvern saw her approving he leaned down to give her better excess to mount his back, and sat on the part of his back closest to his neck. Everyone hesitantly followed her lead, but after the first few got on without problem the rest followed after just as easily. "Okay, let's beat my brother to the cabine!"

As she said this the wall they were facing faded away to give them an easy way out. The wyvern (who's name is Famis, just FYI) let himself fall out of the hole in the wall, but spread his wings to cathe the winds and fly before they got too close to the ground.

"It's like flying with you Impy!" Tango cried, eyes bright as he watched as he saw the path they'd followed. "But way more like riding a horse!"

"I have to agree." The dragon hybrid called back, eyes wide as he watched the landscape pass beneath them, he hadn't experienced something like this since he was a little kid and his mom was teaching him the wonders of flight.

~:-:~WITH TEAM 3~:-:~

Team 3 had finally reached the main room of Pestilence's temple, and the sight that greeted them was one they hadn't expected.

Pestilence, who was a short man with blond hair in a high ponytail wearing royal medieval like clothing, was playing chess with a massive winged tiger. And he was losing.

He looks up when he hears them enter. "Oh! Hello everyone! We'll leave in a bit, I just have to win real quick. But do feel free to ask any question you want!" And with that he went back to playing.

"Your wording makes it sound like you knew we were coming. Did you?" Asked Cub, steel blue eyes looking at the blond horseman.

"Did I know you were all coming? Naturally, War told everyone." Hummed Pestilence, taking on of white pawns (he was playing as black). "And before you ask, we wanted you to prove yourself before we could provide our help, which is why you had to come find us." He laughed here. "Death held you all to high regards, but he's biased so we wanted to make sure for ourselves."

"Well do we hold up?" Asked Ren, head tilted to the side, as blue eyes looked at the man.

"You were not what I expected." Pestilence admitted, eyes narrowing as one of his pieces was taken, "But I can't say you haven't impressed me, your intent to save the little dragon is marvelous. You're all prepared to go all in for him."

"Of course we are!" Stress said, "He's family!"

The blond turned to her. "Druid, just because he's family doesn't mean you'd risk your life for them. You all have something beyond just a family." He cursed when he noticed he was getting backed into a corner by the tiger he was facing. And if the feline's smug face was anything to judge by then it already knew it would reign victorious.

They decided to watch the chess match after that, wanting to see if the tiger would really win or not. Pestilence managed to push out of the corner he was out of, but soon everything went downhill as the tiger once again started backing the horsemen into a corner. So it came as no surprise when he lost and his steed won.

After a good minute of pouting Pestilence turned back to them, and with a snap of his fingers they were back outside of the temple. "Okay, Ria can only take two people at a time, so I hope no one minds riding clones."

No one objected, so in the end TFC rode with Pestilence as everyone split up, and in the end one managed to ride alone (seeing as they were an uneven number with TFC riding on Ria). At first they were a bit jealous of Jevin getting to be all by himself, but after he nearly fell off, due to no one being there to hold on to him, they didn't mind as much anymore.

As they approached where the cabin was they could just make out a big white shape, also heading to the cabin, just opposite to them. And as soon as Pestilence saw it he sped up, making the others do the same as to not lose him

"What's going on?!" Tom cried as he and BigB tried to keep up, "Why are we speeding up?!"

"We are speeding up because I will not lose again today!" Pestilence called out, his voice barely hearable over the wind, "And I will most definitely not lose to my sister!"

"Sister?" Cub mumbled, before his eyes widened in realization. "Famine! It's Famine!"

That made everyone else light up, they'd see their friends soon! And if Famine was there, then maybe Death was too! Or at least they and the group sent to get them would be there soon.

They were nearly there! They nearly had all the horsemen in one place!

<Ah! That felt good to get done! And it wasn't finished late at night, which is nice! I'm actually really happy with how Famine and Pestilence turned out,  but finding a steed for Pest was a pain! I just ended up picking the coolest thing I could find.

I don't really know what else to add, so stay safe and have a wonderful time everyone!>
