Chapter 29: Conquest and Verity
<I shall say this now; I haven't told you the whole truth surrounding Death and their family. There is more then what I've already said, there's something I've kept hidden. That's all I wanted to say. Please enjoy the rest of the chapter!>
Grian sat on the edge of the hospital wings white bed, eyes not really focused on anything. His mind was a whirlwind, thoughts rushing past faster then he could fully comprehend. The past twenty four hours had done nothing but give him headaches, especially after he was left alone in the hospital wing.
It had been around two hours since he and his team were brought back, and an hour since they left. Why he couldn't leave he didn't understand, he was the least hurt out of them! The healers said it was because of his DNA makeup, but he failed to see how being part dragon could possibly make him more susceptible to get hurt.
A few minutes later the healer looking over him, a tall woman with deep red hair, came back and gave him the all clear to leave.
"Finally." Snapped Grian, eyes flashing ice blue. The woman took a step back in fear, head bowed and a quiet apology leaving her mouth.
He took a calming breath and decided to just walk out, tail swishing agitatedly behind him. Grian walked back to his room in the fastest way he could, taking any shortcuts he knew existed and jumping up multiple steps at a time.
He soon reached his room and walked in, shutting the door with his tail. He huffed out a breath, falling into the bed as soon as he was in safe falling distance of it.
Grian tried to move into a comfortable position, but his clothes kept making it impossible to properly relax. So he shed himself of the clothes and changed into a pair of loose shorts instead. Flopping down again he burrows himself comfortably into the covers. A content rubble, that vaguely sounds like a purr, vibrates in his chest as he basked in the warmth and comfort of the cover. But even with though content with how he was at the moment, something still felt of, like something was missing. Placing it on Alastor not being here and having been away from the bed for over a year, he chose to ignore the feeling.
Sleep soon overtook him, and he let himself fall into the comforting darkness.
Alastor walked in a few minutes later, hesitating as he walked in. He didn't want to have to play pretend to get what he wanted, but if he stopped then he'd end up no better than Xenagoras Void, so that wasn't an option. So how would he get out of this? There was literally no way for him to escape, but there must be something!
Instead of going to bed, like he was originally planning to, he moved to the private library in their apartment like room. If Fallacy has such power, then they must have an opposite to oppose them. And he had a feeling that someone wasn't Death.
Was it one of Death's siblings? Possibly, but unlikely. A Void maybe? Fallacy did seem to have something against the family, but that might just be because the Void's are direct descendants of the Universe.
Alastor went to the section containing all of the books about old legends, searching for something that could contain what he needed. After a minute of looking he found a book that seemed to hold promise, it was called "Beings of legend". Pretty straight forward title, so hopefully he'd find something in it.
He opened the leather bound book and quickly flipped through the pages, skimming each text as he went. Many names passed by, some familiar and some not.
Though one caught his interest. He had just started on the "F" section. He had passed Fallacy's section a while back, it contained nothing about an opposite like expected, but it was a section a bit after that which he was interested in.
"The Five Horsemen of the apocalypse" read the chapter title, a picture of five beings on five different creatures right under it. But why were there five? He thought there were only four! Alastor looked through the names, trying to see what the hell this was about.
Conquest, Death, Famine, Plague and War.
It was the first that was new. But why was it never mentioned before? What did they have to hide?
He started reading about the Conquest, trying to see what their deal was. And what he found was quite interesting.
Conquest wasn't made at the same time as the other four, but was created in the wake of the first attack made by the Horsemen, long before they'd each make a realm for themselves. When they rained victorious, Conquest appeared riding on a giant winged wolf. When they once more separated Conquest disappeared, only leaving behind their armor and weapon.
No one knows where the armor disappeared to, or how to find it, but it was named The Ascended and the sword was called The Conqueror. They were said to be made out of the gold of the Universe and the gold of the fight, yellow gold and white gold respectively.
Legend has it that to find the armor you must assemble the relics of the Horsemen, or assemble all the Horsemen themselves.
"Assemble the four Horsemen?" Snorted Alastor, being done with the text and everything, "Do they have a death wish or something?"
"Some say it's worth it." Echoed a voice beside him.
The wolf shrieked and tried to smack the person besides him with the book, but a shadowy hand caught it easily.
The book was lowered and Hills red eyes became visible above the book. An echoey chuckle escaped the shadows jagged lips, "Alastor, might I ask why you are reading this?"
"Hills! Why are you here?" Asked Alastor, and he'd never been so thankful for having his mask, or otherwise the shadow would have seen the fear in his eyes.
The shadow frowned at him, red eyes burning brighter as they narrowed, "You didn't answer my question. Are your really so stupid you can't even answer a simple question you idiotic debacle?"
Alastor's anger flared up at that, "Who are you calling idiotic, you one dimensional son of a bitch?!"
"At least I can do a simple task." Growled Hills, the air around him turning static, "Which is something you seem to have a hard time doing."
The wolf let out an animalistic cry as went in to punch the shadow, but said shadow fought his fist easily. He faltered slightly before throwing the other hand into the fray too, but that too was caught. Alastor was now squirming in Hills hold, trying with all his might to free himself from the brutal hold.
"I'll release you if you answer my question." Cooed Hills, a satisfied smirk on his face. Seems like he already knew the outcome of this situation.
Alastor growled low in his throat, ears as down as they possibly can be, "No."
Hills smirk turned into a grin at the blondes response, "No?" Their fists tightened, and Alastor could feel them slowly start to heat up, "Shame, I had hoped you'd still remain handy. Seems like you won't be after all."
Alastor held his ground until he felt the pain finally start to set in, the burning in his hands soon turned viscous, like a bucket of lava was dumped over his hands. He let out a cry of pain, all of his muscles tensed up as he tried to block out the pain, "Ok, I'll tell!"
Almost instantly all the pain went away, and so did the hands. As soon as he was free he backed up hastily, almost tripping over the book that he'd dropped at some point. Alastor was panting as he looked up at Hills with eyes burning with pure hatred, "I see why Fallacy likes you."
"Of course they like me, I get shit done. Unlike some people." Grinned the shadow, eyes still burning red, "Now, I believe you were going to explain yourself?"
"I was looking for Fallacy's opposite," Hissed Alastor, clearly not happy to be saying this, "Someone with as much power as Fallacy can't exist without having someone who directly opposes them and matches them in power."
He was surprised when Hills let out a laugh, a laugh that then turned hysterical bordering on insane. The shadow took a few moments to compose himself before speaking, "Your right, Fallacy had an opposite."
Alastor narrowed his eyes, "Why are you telling me that? Won't this just make me not give up hope of finding the one who can take your Master down?"
"Oh, oh you poor thing. Didn't you hear what I said?"
The wolf took a cautious step back as the shadows eyes burned with glee, but he didn't answer. And Hills took this as his que to talk again, "I said they had an opposite."
Alastor's eyes widened as he realized what he was talking about, and he mouthed a 'no'.
"Verity is dead. Fallacy doesn't have an opposite, not anymore."
<This was more of a story evolving thing, not really containing much story. Hopefully the chapters to come will do that, but I haven't made them yet so I can't say anything. Also, I really like Hills for some reason, and I don't know why.
Alright, that's all from me for now. So have a wonderful time everyone!>
