The Red Hoodie
The walls of the building she entered were laughing and she hated it. May, the most optimistic girl anyone had ever met, was angry. She was angry at the fact she was angry. She was consumed with rage and loathing, something she hoped to never experience. But somehow it managed to catch up to her. May relented and tried to fight it with every fiber of her being, but eventually she succumbed.
Why? Because of a certain boy who tried to win her heart back by serenading her in the middle of the cafeteria in their college. His voice was like honey, sweet and smooth. Women marveled at them, wishing they were in her spot. She, however, wished she was in their spot. May didn't favor him or his presence. That was putting it nicely. The worst part-the biggest reason May was mad was because for a split second she actually considered taking him back.
"May, wait! Please, May!," June begged. It was like they were made for each other. People often teased them about their names and how romantic it was. In the beginning she thought of it as a sign that they were meant to be lovers, now she saw it as a constant reminder of a mistake she wished she never made. The world seemed to hate her.
June managed to catch up to her. "May, please, listen to me." His voice was so quiet, so shaky. It was almost as if he was crumbling.
There was a silence. And the silence was their song, their song of sorrow. Sorrow and regret. Softly, she replied,"I'm listening."
The torn boy walked up to her, hesitantly. "I didn't think this was going to happen. I didn't mean to not tell you. I promise. I know it was a big secret, I know, but please forgive me,"June cried.
May began to notice tears forming in his eyes. Immediately, she began to feel guilty. This boy had managed to worm his way into her heart. It hurt how he couldn't trust her. When she found out the truth, she was devastated. How could he not trust her? How could he not believe that she would accept him? Did she seem shallow enough not to accept him?
"Why didn't you tell me?," she asked harshly, eyes cold even though she was engulfed by sorrow.
"I thought you wouldn't accept me."
"I want a better excuse than that, Love."
"I-I-I can't tell you. Please, believe me."
"Is it illegal? Is it a crime? Tell me, what is so important that you can't tell me?," May hissed.
"I-I had a sister once,"June muttered.
"Once?"
"Yeah, she passed away. Her name was Rose. She wasn't biologically my sister, she was an orphan. I took her in; meaning my family didn't know about her."
June collapsed. May yelped in surprise. She fell to her knees and began to rapidly crawl towards him.
He began to talk through his sobbing.
"I was 14 at the time, and I didn't know how to take care of a five year old. She was 5 years old, May. My parents barely allowed me to talk to humans in general. But like the idiot I was, I didn't listen. I didn't know why, they didn't tell me why. I found out why."
The distraught boy looked up from his hands, eyes red and puffy from crying.
"My life was made up of 'whys' and I found out the answer to the biggest why in the worst way. She caught me at the worst time, and I didn't have as much control as I do now. I-I killed her. May, I couldn't let what I did happen to her happen to you."
May grabbed his head with her hands and pressed his forehead against hers. She closed her eyes and whispered," I'm sorry. I-I didn't think- I didn't know-I just-I'm sorry. But you're older, you're wiser. Believe in yourself. You couldn't control yourself."
She pulled away. June refused to meet her eyes.
"June, look at me. I love you. No matter how hard I try to hate you I couldn't. Untamed or not, I still would've stayed with you without hesitation. And I know somehow I would-no, I will do everything in my power to make this relationship work," she whisper yelled.
"I trusted you, I just didn't trust myself. I found a way to get rid of the wolf blood."
May gasped. "No, June, that's risky. You don't have to change, I love you for you."
He morphed. When he says wolf, he doesn't mean like the cheesy, and, in his opinion, horrible Twilight's interpretation of a wolf. No, it was extremely similar to the wolf man. A perfect blend between a human and a monster.
May didn't flinch or run away screaming monster. She merely stepped up to him, and kissed him.
He morphed back. He went from a big, frightening wolf man to a thin, regular boy. He leaned in further.
It was sweet, blissful kiss. "I still love love you. Nothing could change my mind."
June smiled fondly at her. "I love you too."
May tugged on his collar and he obligued by lowering his lips down to her's. It was longer and released more of the tension in between them.
"Students, may I ask why you're in the building that is currently under construction? Especially doing some very intimate activities."
Both lip locked, looked at the professor in fear. They parted slowly, and May removed her hands from under his shirt. They began to laugh nervously.
"Well? Are you going to be on your way or just stand there.
Immediately, they scrammbled out the building, hand in hand.
The professor watched them run away. "Mr. Fowler, hope you have the 20 dollars with you," the professor snorted, walking out of the building.
