The last day
Princess Elmaria of Boria
I walked through the Borian woods, thinking about the trials of the next day. I would be sent off in a carriage to Ibania, the home of the most ruthless king around. Then, I, Princess Elmaria of Boria would have to prepare for the day after that. The worst day of my existence. My wedding day.
Most brides would, of course, be ecstatic. Not me. Why? Because it was an arranged marriage to a man I barely knew who had fallen for me, for some mysterious reason. I sighed and waved my hand. The wilted red rose I had been staring at for a few minutes suddenly sprang back to life. I touched it, and when it became white, I smiled. Only the royal family of Boria could influence nature. Every royal family could do something magical, but in my opinion, Boria's was the best.
I heard men shouting, and sighed. Time to get back to the castle. I ran back, not caring about the stones that dug into my feet, or the branches that ripped my dress. I could stand physical pain, but emotional pain I could barely live with. I couldn't stand leaving my family, my home, and the love of my life, Lord Maxwell.
I arrived at the castle, and went up to my room where my maids where waiting for me.
"My dear princess, forgive me, but, what have you done to yourself! Your hair is a rat's nest, your dress is ripped and your shoes are nowhere to be seen!Have you forgotten that you are having dinner with their Magesties the King and Queen of Boria?" My head maid Flora exclaimed. She and my other maids ushered me into my bathroom and started attacking me thoroughly with soap, hairbrushes, pumice, and shampoo. When the carnage was done, they presented me with a row of scented oils. I, of course, chose honeysuckle; my favorite scent. Then, I got out of the bath and went in my room, where my dress was put on me, my hair piled on top of my head and strawberry and rose petal paste was applied to my plump lips. I looked in the mirror. I could barely recognize the young woman staring back at me. Her dark blonde hair was twisted in an elegant knot on top of her head, her lips were a dark pink hue and she was wearing a beautiful silk midnight blue dress.
I walked out of the room with my head held high, then went down to the dining room and made a last attempt to persuade my parents to call off the wedding.
"Mother, Father, I would like to ask you something."
"Yes, Elmaria?" My father, the king asked.
"Please call off the wedding." I answered with as much confidence as I could muster.
"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid we simply can't do that." My mother said.
"Why not? You are a King and Queen." I said, a little childishly.
"We shall not risk our country by calling off the wedding. Now sit down and eat your dinner." My father said firmly.
"But-"
"Stop this madness immediately Elmaria. Stop being childish and be glad to make a sacrifice for the greater good of your country."My mother said angrily.
So much for convincing them.
