Plumeria Shaped Medicine

I closed my grey colored notebook and sighed as a breeze blew by me slowly. I had been out and about just relaxing at the closest park. At the moment, I was laying down on this soft patch of grass that had been underneath this large willow tree that proved a large amount of shade from the shining sun. And underneath me, was this medium sized picnic blanket that I had carried around with me right after I left my house. It was what separated me from the soft grass. If I remember correctly, it has been four days since then. Since then, not once have I spoken to Shuichi.

Just thinking about it bothered me. Closing my eyes, I thought about all the troubles in this world. There were too many to count. A cold breeze blew by me as I felt this familiar aura nearby. Not even opening my eyes, I had already realized what it had been.

"If you're going to attack me without being unnoticed", I said out loud, "You might as well just do it without getting caught." I forced myself to sit up as I opened my eyes and stared at who I was talking to. It was one of those demons that had gotten away from Shuichi from four days ago. To my surprise, it was also injured. Reaching my hand out to this demon, I tried calling it over to me. "Nee", I said, "Come here for a moment." But of course, it didn't come. Sighing, I pulled out some bandages from my bag and threw it at the demon. I flinched from the bandages hitting it, but again it didn't move. It didn't run. The fact that it stayed in place sparked some of my interest. So I started moving closer and closer to the wounded demon. There was a point where I managed to at least get 'close' to it, but when I did, it attacked me. Luckily for me and my reflexes, I pulled back just in time. It had only managed to scratch this large cut into my arm. "Heeeeeeey", I said while trying to get closer to the demon again, "Don't be stingy. I just wanna help you." It stopped moving for a moment and stared at me. Was it hesitating ? Pulling back, I stared at it. "Four days ago, two of you were sent to sleep", I said, trying to recall what happened, "Could it be that you don't want me to do the same for you ?" It was just for a small moment, but for a second, I thought that I saw it nod.

Slowly reaching out my hand again, I waited to see its reaction. What was behind that black hood. Finally, for what felt like an hour of keeping my hand out, it reached out and grabbed it. A rough hand, covered in wounds from before. It was also.... a small hand ? I grabbed the hand and pulled it close to me so that I was now hugging that demon. It struggled to break free, but because it had weakened, it couldn't. Pulling the hood off the demon's head, revealed this small child with black hair. A boy around the age of ten. But he was a demon. I reached into my jacket pocket and pulled out this small case where I pulled out this candy shaped item. Giving it to the boy, I told him to eat it. He hesitated for a bit, before taking it. I watched as his face turn bitter by the taste and laughed.

"What is this !???", he pouted as he tried to get the taste out of his mouth, "What did you just give me, you human !???" I pulled out another one of those candy looking things and held it up into the sunlight. "It's a Plumeria shaped medicine", I replied, "Something that helps me make things much more interesting." He glared at me and turned away. "Come on now", I said, trying to get him to look at me again, "Don't be stingy." He looked over his shoulder and was still glaring at me. "Why did you bother to help me", he said faintly, "Why don't you kill me just like that guy did ?" "I dislike seeing someone in pain", I replied softly, as I reached over and began to clean the wounds that this boy had, "There are a lot of different people in the world. And each one has their own choices." He didn't reply. "That's right", I said while staring at the bandages, "What is your name ?" "Why should I give my name to a human like you ?", he said coldly. I looked at him and rummaged through my bag. Pulling out this comb, I smiled. "Then I will have no choice to kill you", I replied. I watched him smirk. "With that ?", he said in amusement. I nodded and slipped off the top to reveal a hidden knife. "Yeap", I said happily.

He stared at the blade hesitantly.

".....Mizuki." "Huh ?" "I said my name is Mizuki." I stared at his, somewhat embarrassed face and smiled. "Well Mizuki", I said as I finished cleaning his wounds and bandaging them up, "My name is Shiori."

That day, I took him home and told him that this place was also now his. While I was fixing something up in the kitchen, I heard him say, "I hate you... Why are you helping out a demon like me ? Don't you wanna kill me ?" I placed the dish of onigiri on the table and took off the apron that I had on. "No", I replied, averting my gaze from his, "Because... we're not exactly different." I turned to him and smiled. "Now come here and eat this before I come over there and do it for you." Mizuki sighed as he walked over to the table and began eating. "I wonder why I'm even listening to a human", he said in disbelief. I walked over to the Living room and sat down. "When you're finished, I'll show you your room." He nodded slightly and kept eating. I wonder what he had gone through.

"A useless child is unwanted. You shouldn't even have been born to begin with."

I felt this slight shake on my shoulder. Staring up, I noticed Mizuki standing over me. I must have dosed off. "Are you.... okay ?", he asked. I stared blankly at the ceiling fan and took a deep breath. Standing up, I stretched my arms a little and pointed upstairs. "Shall I show you your room ?", I asked. I could tell that he was beginning to wonder if he was making the right choice. When we got to his room, he looked around in amazement. "Large room huh ?", I said, as I turned on the lights that led to the bathroom. "Yeah....", he said as he continued to look around. I didn't have the urge to stay any longer, so I started to head towards the door. "If you need help, just knock on my door. The one next door", I said, pointing in its direction, "Also, the fact that you'e going to be living with me means that you have to be a good boy. Promise ?" I stared at him until he nodded his head. Just as I was about to close the door behind me, I smiled. Just faintly, very very faintly, I heard:

"Thank you"
