Final Chapter: Thirty-Two
"What?" He asked, seeking more reassurance. His expression seemed pained and surprised, and he was forcing back his tears.
"I'm not sure if it's official yet, I'll have to check with him again... I thought Kairi told you?" You said, gazing at him.
As the sparkler went out, Kaito dropped his with a frown growing on his face. Almost in an instant, he stood up, rushing to Tsukishima. He didn't hesitate to grab him by the collar, picking him up.
"Damn you!" He shouted, pulling back his right arm, and balled his hand up into a fist. "Kai!" You yelled, dashing towards him. You made it in time to grab his arm, trying to tug it back. "Why are you getting so angry?! He did nothing wrong!"
All eyes were on the three of you, Kairi was just loving it up in the corner with his girlfriend. She seemed to be enjoying it too; that's probably what makes them a good couple.
Kaito's ocean blue eyes pierced through Tsukishima golden-brown ones, eventually moving away. "There goes Kaito again, making a big scene." Said one of his male friends, chuckling afterwards.
"He's gonna run in three... two... one..." Said another, but it was a female. And just as she predicted, he marched off in anger, heading into the spacious lodge.
"Kai! Wait!" You bellowed, trailing behind him. He classmates giggled and chuckled, going back to their party.
"I hope he never changes."
"Same! And it'll be pretty lame without the two of them..."
Kairi then took initiative, clapping his hands. "Alright everyone! Who's ready for the big ones?" He smirked, opening his trunk to his luxurious black car. He then whipped out fireworks like no others, exciting the crowd.
"Aren't you going to go with your girlfriend Tsuki?" Yui asked, and Tsukishima shook his head. "No, that's not a smart idea. I'll let them solve it themselves."
"Kai! Stop walking so fast!" You panted, grabbing his hand. "What's wrong? Did he say something that offended you?" Despite the question, he stood quietly, his eyes focused on the floor. "Kai, you can talk to me you know..."
"(Y/N)," He began, turning around to look at you. "You should know something." After pulling your hand away, your eyes met his, curious as to what he'd tell you. "What is it?"
He clenched his fists tightly as a faint pink scattered on his cheeks, frustrated because he couldn't muster out the words.
"I..." He said, almost glaring. "Lo-" Though Before Kaito could finish, the fireworks Kairi brought in went off, so you were unable to hear him. "What was that?"
It his eyes darted to the floor as he sighed, waiting until the fireworks stopped. Once it did, he repeated himself. "I— I love you." Though yet again, Kairi's little surprises went off, but you still heard every word he said.
Since you were unsure of how to respond, you stumbled back, placing your palm on the windowsill with an excuse.
"I can't hear you, the fire..."
To your surprise, Kaito grabbed you by the waist, his masculine arms squeezing you apart. "I love you, (Y/N). Please, don't leave me for someone else. You and I both know we need each other..." His voice was soft and fragile. You thought that if you said the wrong thing, he'd break in an instant.
"Kai, you're hurting me, please let me go..." You whispered, but he only hugged tighter. "I don't want to let you go more than I already have."
His words made your heart sink lower than you thought was possible. 'This feeling... make it stop...' You thought, attempting to move his arms away that was still fastened around you.
"We've known each other since we were kids... yet you're so quick to love someone else. It hurts to see you so happy with someone else. So please, stay with me..." Kaito begged.
"Kai, I've had enough, this isn't funny. Let's get back to the others and fo—"
Kaito shook his head with an intimidating yell, nearly on the brink of crying. "No! (Y/N), I don't want to let you go, I refuse to. I won't let go until you admit to loving me."
This was all too much for you to handle alone; but technically you weren't alone. Feeling conflicted inside, you shoved him away, only moving about an inch. Your back touched the glass and wood behind you as more and more fireworks lit up. You had no idea what to do or say, and neither did he.
"Kaito, I-"
"Hah," He turned around moving a hand over his eyes, chuckling. "How was it? I got you right? I'm such a good actor, just like my brother." Kaito said. You tried to speak again, but he held up his index finger, stopping you. "Save it, all of this was a joke."
Kaito turned his head soon afterwards with a smile; one that was obviously heartbroken and torn apart. There was also pink under his eyes, as well as in the corners, which indicated he was just crying. "I'll see you at school, (Y/N). It was fun talking to you again."
If you reached out to him, what would you have said? I love you, or stay? Would you have left Tsukishima for him? So instead of chasing him around as usual, you leaned back against the cold window, listening to the wonderful sounds that the fireworks made in the sky.
Kaito stopped near the door just before exiting, mumbling something inaudible to you. What was said, however, is a mystery.
'Do I... like Kai?'

"Good morning!"
"Good morning. You're energetic as usual." Said Tsukishima who was standing near the gate outside your home. "Yep! You're kinda early today though, is something going on at home?" You asked, locking the door behind you.
"Well I went to see Kairi and his fiancée off at the airport, like you told me to." He pulled his hands out his pockets, pulling on your cheeks. "But you weren't even there! I wasted hours of sleep for you, and you never showed up."
After your whining and his scolding, he pulled back his hands, and once again stuffed them into his pockets. "I'm sorry, I was really tired! I'll make it up to you, I promise!" He clicked his teeth, beginning his walk to school with you clinging to his arm.
"I want your strawberry shortcake at lunch today. Don't forget." He said with a blank face that made you giggle. Tsukishima raised a brow, looking down at you.
"What's so funny?" He asked. "It's nothing. And I can't believe Kairi is going back to America... I feel like Kaito will be lonely without him." You responded with commentary.
"I highly doubt that. I don't think he even likes his brother, and also he has Yui." You glanced forward after staring at him, replying. "I guess you're right..."
"What about me?" You and Tsukishima jumped with a pause, slowly turning around to see a girl with blue hair no one could get used to. She was smiling, and cuddled up with a guy with a mask.
"Oh, Yui and Kai! You kinda scared me..." You exhaled. Yui's new boyfriend was looking away, and never looked at either of them once. "Yui, let's go so we can make it to auditorium. I learned a few new tricks I want to show you."
And with that, Kaito left marched off with his significant other. Tsukishima new what he meant, but you stood there clueless. "What new tricks? Does it have to do with basketball?" You asked.
He shook his head, dragging you along. "Don't worry your little head about it, come on."
Yui stole a glance of you and Tsukishima behind them, and giggled. "Ooh, Kai... you dirty boy! I've never expected you to say something like that in front of them." She leaned in even closer, trailing her finger up and down his chest.
"So maybe we could—"
"Forget about it." He muffled into his mask, continuing. "We're not dating. We agreed we won't do anything a couple would do, or fall in love. You signed the contract." He said.
With a huff, Yui rolled her eyes, moving away. "What a bummer, I was getting all excited too."
"So what do you want to do today? Hang out at another cafe?" You asked, blinking your eyelashes in curiosity up at him. "It's honestly up to you."
"Okay then...~ Cafe it is! Oh and can I borrow your notes for English? I kind of-"
"You fell asleep in English, I know. I'll give it to you in homeroom." You rested your head on his arm, squealing and giggling. "Thanks, Tsuki. And I have something to tell you~"
Tsukishima looked down at you, waiting for you to spill. "What is it?"
"Oh nothing, I wanted to know I love you." With pink burning onto his cheeks, Tsukishima coughed, muttering his response. "I love you too."
