Chapter Seventeen: Tell me you like me...
You stood on the tips of your toes, reaching for the bus strap. Tsukishima's eyes that was facing forward averted to you who was struggling to touch the leather handle.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm— trying— to hang onto the strap with you—" You said, the tip of your finger grazing the strap.
"Pfft, it's your fault for being so short." He teased, his eyes glancing back ahead, out the window. You ignored him since you were too focused.
With a sigh, Tsukishima reached for it instead, holding onto a strap with both of his hands. You were confused as to what he was doing, so you assumed he was being a douche. "Gosh, you're mean."
"I'm letting you use my arm you brat, hurry up before I change my mind." He looked right to hide the blush on his cheeks, even the little things embarrassed him as well.
"Oh..." You started, using his arm as if it was a bus handle. "I knew that...~" You giggled, and he shook his head.
"Idiot."
The bus ride home was a quiet and awkward one, the both of you had no idea what to say. Maybe... how was your day? No, your day was bad obviously. Once the bus finally stopped near your street, the both of you got off, and Tsukishima began to lead the way.
"Hey, Tsuki..." You whispered, nervously clutching your bag. "Do you think Kairi will be alright...?" You asked, your eyes soon darted to the floor. He stopped, responding. "Yeah, I don't think it was that bad."
He then began to lean in, wincing his eyes. "So, what's your relationship with him? It seems like you care more about the teach rather than his younger brother."
"I care about them both equally, but he was almost killed! Plus, he's always been there for the both of us as kids, so he's like a big brother to me. It's natural to care more..." You stepped back, your eyes meeting his.
You felt liquid begin to swell in your eyes, and your throat tighten. You felt like crying... you felt like most of this was your fault. "He's literally in the hospital because of me... maybe if I never visited him in the first place then none of this would've happened..."
He quietly listened while turning around, his golden-brow eyes narrowing at the sight of you. "Are you about to cry?" He asked, blinking down at you. This made you sigh, and ruffle your nose. "No, I'm fine, I don't need to cry."
"Why do you say that?"
"Say what?"
"You know what."
"I don't , sorry..."
You began to wipe your eyes, adjusting your bag around your shoulder. With a nod of his head, he quietly walked towards you, only to give you a warm embrace. You were surprised, but you didn't mind. Your face was snuggled into his shoulder, your bodies pressed together even tighter.
"It's disgusting how you lie so much. If something is on your mind, just tell me." It was weird how nice he was being, but you didn't mind. It was nice to feel his warmth.
You didn't know why, but your eyes teared up, and you tightly hugged him. "Thank you..." He chuckled after hearing those two words, moving away. "Why are you thanking me? I haven't done anything yet."
"What does that mean?" You pulled your sleeve up to wipe your tears, your nose burning a bright red from all the crying you've been doing.
Once the waterworks were done, your hands fell back to your side, slowly. It wasn't long before something soft touched your lips, and it made your heart race. His glasses were inches away from your face, and his eyes were closed.
His eyelashes were surprisingly long, and his skin looked soft and smooth.
"...So this is what you've been doing all day?" It was always Kaito who found you no matter what, and it was always at a bad time.
Tsukishima pulled away, clearing his throat. "Do you always come out of no where and interrupt us? It doesn't surprise me that—"
"Shut up!" He shouted, marching towards the two of you, grabbing you harshly by the wrist. "(Y/N)." His blue eyes were staring dead inside yours, a glint of fire in his eyes.
"I-It's not what it looks like! It was— the angle! Right that!" You said, unable to look at him directly. "Let's go, I'm walking you home." Kaito began to drag you off. It wasn't like your home was too far, so his offer was unnecessary.
"Sorry to burst your bubble but... I was walking her first." Tsukishima said, and Kaito's eye twitched. He turned around mouthing to him.
"F u c k o f f."
The blonde chuckled pulling his headphones on. "Her lips were nice and soft, sure wish I was kind enough to share."
"Tch."
Kaito's grip on your wrist tightened, his expression was almost frightening. What did he say that got him so pissed? Oh right... the kissing scene.
"Um... Kai... I'm sorry about all this..." You cooed, looking down at his shoes. "Did you hear about your bro—"
"I don't care about him, he's just a selfish prick. If he died I wouldn't mind." You scoffed, pulling back your wrist. No matter how are you did, however, he never let go of you for a second.
"Kai! That's your older brother! Why would you say that?!" You asked, he turned around, wrapping his arms around you. "(Y/N)... I'm sorry, just please tell me what I saw back there was a misunderstanding." He whispered gently in your ear.
Biting down on your lip unsure of what to say, your eyes danced around the back of his head, gazing at his black locks.
"Please, just one time... Tell me you like me..."
He sounded desperate, and you felt guilty. You knew the feeling all too well.
After standing in silence, Kaito sighed, moving away with a smile on his face. "How was that? Was my acting skills amazing?" He chuckled, pointing at himself with his thumb.
"I'm guessing I did pretty well judging from the dumb look on your face."
"Aha..." You giggled sarcastically, launching your first at his stomach. Kaito wheezed, his hands wandering over his belly. "Ow, did you get stronger?" He teased, standing up straight after causing a whole scene.
"Whatever... Why would you go and do all that anyway?" You questioned while crossing your arms. "Well this guy will be playing Romeo at the upcoming festival~" He grinned, beaming with confidence.
"Why are you just now telling me this?! I could've helped with the costumes and the makeup and—"
Kaito raised his index finger, hushing you up. "Nope, all the spots are taken. But except for one..." He smiled, turning around.
"And what's that? Is it something I have to do back stage? I don't really mind either way!" Kaito's arms ended up crossed behind his head, continuing to walk.
"Nope. Just show up as my best friend and sit at the very front seat in the theater room. Then, watch as Kai work his magic~" His grin grew even wider. You rolled your eyes and followed, eventually you made it to your home.
"See you tomorrow (Y/N)." He said with a wave, and so you gestured back. "Thanks for walking me home, Kai! See you!"
