Chapter Four
Jacklyn heard her alarm ring. Jacklyn groaned and rolled over in her sheets. She looked at her clock and read the bright red digital letters printed across the screen. 5:40am. Jacklyn sat up and grabbed her hairband. She placed it on and pushed back her bangs. The sheets were thrown to the floor. She carried herself to the curtains and pulled them back. The window was clean and she assumed it stopped raining early after she fell asleep. Jacklyn's hands gripped the window seal and pushed the glass upwards. She poked her head outside and took note of the Laserbeaks surrounding the neighborhood, sitting on top of mailboxes. Her room was on the side of the house so she got a clear view of Camerons. Jacklyn pulled herself back inside and grabbed her walkie talkie. "Cameron, it's me. Come in." Jacklyn spoke into the electronic. Phones could easily be hacked but walkie talkies made it much more difficult for the Decepticons to trace and hack. Especially if they have no clue the two seniors possessed one. The silence began to annoy Jacklyn. She knew her friend and she also knew how she liked to sleep in. "Cameron!" She hoped she wouldn't be too loud but loud enough to get her friend's attention as she tried again. There was static until she finally heard a groan.
"What?" Cameron grunted with a raspy voice.
"We need to head to the Autobot exhibit. Remember?" Jacklyn asked patiently. Her eyes looked around before she finally found her old camera. She snatched it off her wooden dresser.
"Huh? Why this early I need my-wait...Oh yeah," Cameron muttered. Jacklyn chuckled at her friend's morning drowsiness. "I'll be over in a few." She said.
"Don't forget your camera." Jacklyn reminded gently before placing her walkie-talkie and camera onto her bed before getting dressed quickly.
...
Jacklyn opened her back door and saw Cameron yawning quietly, her baggy eyes staring back at her.
"Got everything?" Cameron asked tiredly. Jacklyn turned on her flashlight at her friend with a small playful smirk.
"That answer your question, sleepy head?" She snickered. Cameron whined and shielded her eyes.
"Come on, get that outta my face." She grumbled. Jacklyn shined it to the woods and Jacklyn shut her door behind her. Her sneakers squished once she entered the mud. Jacklyn inwardly cringed but went into the woods behind their house trying her best to ignore the mud. Cameron stuffed her hands into her hoodie pockets and walked with her friend as her fingers held tightly onto her new camera in her pocket.
"So you know how to get there?" Jacklyn asked. Cameron nodded.
"Since I know you don't own a computer I looked it up a little after you left. I've actually been reading some articles online about it... there was a lot actually. I had to stop around three o' clock."
"It just opened two days ago, how could it have articles already?" Jacklyn blinked in surprise, but not towards her staying up late. That was very common. Very. Cameron shrugged.
"Well they are the Autobots and about half the world is looking to them for help right now." Cameron pointed out carelessly. Jacklyn felt her chest grow heavy. I bet they are...and yet we're the only two out of a 6 billion doing something. She thought, realizing starting to kick in. She brushed off her doubts and kept moving without further talking. Cameron filled in the silence though. "Ya know what I don't understand about bad guys? They have to do everything at night. Like why at night? No one can stop them from doing their evil things in the morning or evening. Like everything should be open at night, that way I'm actually awake for it. Cause the whole day I'm exhausted but at night when I should be sleeping, I can't. You see my problem?" Cameron complained. Jacklyn snorted not bothering by her friend's ramblings, nor understanding half what she said. Jacklyn was pretty good at getting up early so she didn't quite understand the problem. She was the bookworm and the early bird. Ironic, Jacklyn smirked.
"Are we almost there?" Jacklyn asked.
"Were you even listening?" Cameron huffed.
"Cameron, Operation; get the Autobots back on their feet to save the world? Ring a bell?" Jacklyn gave her a look. Cameron scoffed.
"Calm down, just a few more feet ahead then we've reached the parking lot." Cameron looked away. Jacklyn nodded.
"Think it will be crowded?" Jacklyn asked her, hoping to keep her talking. Jacklyn knew Cameron liked talking to help wake herself up. Cameron sighed, realizing what she was doing but let it slip.
"Probably not. As much people are excited they're not dead...they're respecting that they're being humiliated and staying away." Cameron explained. Jacklyn frowned.
"True, this is going to make it harder to blend in then," Jacklyn bit her lip. Cameron looked at her.
"We'll figure it out," She told her as she took out her hands from her pockets. She draped a leg over the bushes and Jacklyn struggled before making it over. Jacklyn switched her flashlight off and they entered the parking lot. Jacklyn felt her eyes widened at how large the building was. It was gray and was as tall and wide as almost two football fields. "Looks like a movie hanger doesn't it?"
"Three times the size of those..." Jacklyn breathed. Cameron narrowed her eyes as they began getting closer she began to see two young men standing in the front. They wore red and yellow stripes suits and little hats as if they were at as circus. The closer they got the more tired they looked. The yellow one noticed them first. He nudged the red and got his attention. Cameron began to recognize them from the online pictures and articles she read. Cameron also noticed they were very close to each other like they've been separated for years...or they know they will be.
"Jacklyn...I think these guys are-." Cameron was cut off as the red one spoke up first.
"Aren't you two excited about coming?" He rose an eyebrow sarcastically. Jacklyn tore her gaze from the building and toward the two boys.
"Thrilled," Jacklyn told him with an unamused expression. "Is it open?" She asked.
"Just did," The yellow one nodded. Cameron blinked.
"Great, come on." Jacklyn urged and began walking to the entrance.
"Wait, you guys are Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, right?" She asked. They almost flinched but nodded reluctantly.
"In the flesh...er...holoform." Sideswipe shrugged. Jacklyn turned around with raised eyebrows.
"Wait, how come you aren't inside?" She asked curiously. Cameron stiffened and shook at her friend to not go there. Sunstreaker growled lowly.
"I could ask the same of you." Sunstreaker snapped. The entrance doors opened and a Decepticon walked out. Sunstreaker's expression fell and Sideswipe flinched.
"Is there a problem here?" The vechicon asked. Cameron stepped forward. Jacklyn noticed he didn't speak about curfew.
"No, just asking about the exhibit." She smiled sweetly. The vechicon rose an optic ridge and Jacklyn started to believe he didn't buy it. He nodded.
"Well get along inside and find out for yourself." He said and headed to the road and transformed, driving off. The twins holoforms relaxed. Jacklyn frowned and Cameron looked back to Jacklyn.
"I'm coming," Cameron said and jogged up to her. The twins exchanged a confused look.
"Did she just help us?" Jacklyn heard Sideswipe whisper. They opened the doors and headed down the dim hall. The coolness made them pull on their jackets.
"That was weird...Aren't those two known to be the most feared warriors?" Jacklyn asked. Cameron nodded.
"The defeat must have really got to them...good thing you decided to do this," Cameron told her. Jacklyn nodded slowly. As they approached the main room they saw it lead off into three other rooms. The doors were high, presuming for Transformers as well and were shaped as Hexagons. On the right wall for the right door, a sign read 'SIDESWIPE, BLUESTREAK, PROWL, AND JAZZ.' On the left, the sign read, 'BUMBLEBEE, CLIFFJUMPER, MIRAGE, AND SUNSTREAKER'. And on the gate in front of them, it pointed to ' IRONHIDE, RATCHET, AND WHEELJACK' for the back. However, that didn't get their attention first. It was Optimus Prime who stood in the middle of the building on a giant circle that rotated, his optics glancing at all his suffering comrades and friends. The two girls had their head strained backward and felt their neck protest. As his back was turned Cameron noticed his back was forced to a pole that connected to the giant rotating platform. His back was connected to the pole by a large magnetic. Cameron cringed as he made his way around. As they thought it couldn't get worse for the leader, the pledge of allegiance began to pour out of the speakers at his feet. His right hand was forced to his chest plate and his front body was colored in America's flag. Jacklyn lowered her gaze to the sign in front of him. Her eyebrows furrowed as she read the text. Enjoy, this is what's left of your Ameican freedom. Jacklyn felt a shiver go down her spine. Optimus felt his optics shutter at the sight of humans but said nothing. Cameron wondered if he was trying not to cry at his own failure. A Vechicon walked up to the two.
"Were you here yesterday?" The con asked. Jacklyn shook her head.
"No." The con smirked.
"Good. The I can give you the tour. You also have a list of things to complete before you leave." The con told them. Jacklyn felt Cameron's stare.
"Actually-,"
"Follow me." His tone turned dark. Cameron's stare turned into a glare once the con turned around.
"Nice, got a plan now?' Cameron hissed to her. Jacklyn ignored her and only watched how Optimus did nothing. Her heart ached at the sight but she felt there was only worse to come.
