RWBY - (Volume 1) Chapter 4: A Second Chance.

You feel yourself slowing regaining consciousness as your vision is blurry for a few moments. You yawn loudly as you rub your eyes and take a look around the ballroom, from what you can gather it has to be extremely early in the morning still, you never did have the best sleep schedule so you're not too surprised by this. The sun is just barely beginning to peak over the horizon so the actual room itself is still rather dark. From what you can gather it seems that everyone is still asleep, including Inari as you glance over to see that he's still fast passed out. You feel the diodes in your shoulders lift up and eject some steam as you softly groan in annoyance.

It has been a while since you've properly been able to get an adequate amount of Dust within you to keep your implants functional, you can already feel this absence beginning to take effect as you feel quite sluggish, your head is slowly but surely beginning to pound and ache. It's bearable for now but given enough time this lack of Dust will start to seriously debilitate you. You groan as you slowly lift yourself off the wall, you search inside of your jacket that you had tossed to the side and pull out a nearly empty vial of Ice Dust powder.

You (Quietly): "Well...it'll barely last me for a few hours but it'll have to do for now..." You whisper to yourself, stirring the near empty bottle in your hand as you look at it with a disappointed look on your face before popping off the cork on the top of the vial. You glance around as given what had happened with Ruby yesterday with the whole crater incident maybe it'd be best for you to head somewhere less crowded before trying to mess around with Dust.

You swiftly get up, being careful not to potentially wake any of the still sleeping students as you make your way out of the ballroom doors. You rub your eyes, tiredly, as you walk out into one of the courtyards that Beacon has as you find a lone bench. You make your way over to it before sitting down before putting the tip of the vial up to your lips before quickly chugging it down, you quickly feel the taste of a very sour and metallic blueberry taste on your tongue. You shiver slightly as you feel your body temperature going down, you glance down at the core in your chest as it turns into a soft arctic blue color, your Aura appearing as it shimmers that same color. You breathe out sharply as you can see your breath from the sudden change in temperature, out of all the Dust elements you can consume, Ice is certainly one of the ones that you don't really prefer. The diodes in your shoulders lift up, letting off a faint humming sound all while having the same turquoise color, you close your eyes attempting to shake off this feeling as you hate the experience of being cold with an intense passion.

This effect persists for a while before it slowly fades back to its standard amber color. You sniff the air, your nose is picking up the slight scent of someone approaching. You open your eyes to see, surprisingly, Professor Ozpin himself walking through the courtyard. His cane in hand along with a mug of what you presume is coffee in his other hand. He is definitely approaching you as now you're not quite sure how you should act. Technically speaking, you weren't supposed to leave the ballroom till they came to wake everyone up. Well, here's hoping he's not gonna kick you out on the second day, he takes a swig from his mug before stopping right beside the bench you're sitting on.

Ozpin: "Good morning, Mister (L). I trust you had a pleasant night's rest?" You cross your arms as to not draw attention to the core in your chest and the bits of metal along your body.

You: "For the most part, professor. Never had the best track record for sleeping, but just being in that ballroom was a better experience than most nights." Professor Ozpin chuckles a bit at your comment, slightly walking over to the opposite end of the bench you're sitting on before swiftly sitting down.

Ozpin: "Then I'm sure you'll find our dorm room accommodations considerably more comfortable than that." Ozpin's eyes are solely looking ahead towards the large clock-tower that resides at the center of Beacon. "That's quite a unique Semblance you have Mr. (L), the ability to drain Dust of its properties." You glance over at him in slight surprise, you quickly realize it's not terribly outlandish for him to know that information, he might've saw you just earlier or was told by Glynda after the fight a few nights ago, besides he's the Headmaster of Beacon it's his job to know.

You: "I...thanks, I guess?" You say with a confused look, not really knowing how to respond to him.

Ozpin: "Yes, an ability such as that can be a powerful one, indeed. But I'm sure it must be difficult to maintain, especially given the state of which the world is in where Dust is becoming an increasingly difficult resource to acquire." You shrug, you completely agree, you've had to resort to thievery after all, not like you or Inari had the money to get it through normal means.

You: "Well from what you know about me, that's definitely the case, it hasn't been easy." You slump back against the bench slightly, lamenting slightly over the past few months that you can clearly remember.

Ozpin: "I'm sure, however, what I do find peculiar is that there have been reports from several sources in the region of Atlas and Mantle that several months ago an entire facility ran by the Schnee Dust Company was completely shut down due to a large amount of their stored Dust reservoirs being reported missing and what remnants that did remain were inexplicably drained." You now glance over at him with a worried look, that is definitely something you DON'T remember doing, that couldn't have been you. Ozpin's eyes smoothly look over to you with some intrigue on his face "You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, Mr. (L)?"

You: "Absolutely not, Professor, like I said before, I barely remember how we even got to Vale, let alone anything that far back. I can absorb Dust, sure. But enough to drain an entire facility? My body would probably actually explode." You say with a somewhat nervous chuckle, Ozpin continues to study you for a moment before closing his eyes and readjusting his glasses.

Ozpin: "I presumed as much, apologies if I had seem skeptical by asking. One must be cautious in this day and age, especially in regard to you and Mr. Inari as you both are certainly some of the more intriguing individuals I've let in to my school. Despite my age, I know a thing or two about technology I've learned from my comrades. And those modifications on your body I can tell are above your standard military grade implants and highly experimental." Ozpin gestures with his cane to the softly glowing core in your chest that you attempted to cover with your arms but it seems like it amounted to nothing. You groan before hesitantly lowering your arms to your side.

You: "If you're gonna ask how I got them, then sorry to say, that's one of the many things I just don't have an answer to." You state in a somewhat aggravated tone while avoiding eye contact with Ozpin, any talks with your body augmentations makes you quite uncomfortable. It's certainly a sour spot for discussion.

Ozpin: "I apologize if I overstepped, I wasn't attempting to learn how you got them. I only meant to say that despite whatever past you may have had, this is a place for second chances. Believe me when I say, that we've had students from all walks of life come out through this school and have changed for the better. I implore you to consider this as you go through this year you agreed to attend." You glance downwards, thinking on his words genuinely as you hear Ozpin tap his cane against the ground, you glance over to see that he's gotten up from the bench as now the Sun has raised to early morning at this point. "Now, you best be going, you have a long day ahead of you, the rest of the students would have been woken up by now and breakfast will be served soon. Wouldn't want to be late for your first day."

You: "Right...thanks, Professor Ozpin...but you know I'm still gonna get out of here the first chance I get, right?" He chuckles and nods his head before he begins walking away, as you continue to watch the man leave, you feel your head begin to throb lightly along with that same ear-deafening sound from yesterday fills your ears for a few moments. You're not quite sure what that's about as it quickly fades away.

Ozpin: "Oh we'll see how you feel about that sentiment in due time...and just a few words of advice, Mr (L)." He glances back at you with a slight smile "Eat lightly." You look at him with a slightly confused face as he simply continues walking away...he's certainly a bit of a mysterious guy, bit odd too but he seems rather laid back though. You can see why he'd be the Headmaster of a place like this, you glance back over to entrance to the ballroom, noticing that the other students are beginning to move around in there, you swiftly get up before beginning to make your way back inside.

(Later| Locker Room)

After a quick breakfast which tasted like heaven compared to what you and Inari had been previously subjected to eating you've both decided to head over to the locker room. You both decided to head down there a bit earlier than most of the other students have as while you were eating, you and Inari very quickly realized that you don't remember where you put your gear...crap. You and Inari are currently glancing down the long hallways of endless lockers, you groan.

You: "UGGGHHH Specks, I thought that mind of yours was like a steel trap, how could you forget where we put our stuff!?" Inari glances over at you with a glare, both of you are now rapidly trying to look through the grooves of the lockers, much to the concern of some of the other students in the area who probably now think you're trying to steal their belongings, great first impressions you're giving them.

Inari: "If I remember correctly, it was you that stated 'don't worry about putting our weapons away, I got this' before rushing off without my approval." He says while doing a horrible impression of your voice as your eyes widen as yeah, you did say that huh? But rather than admitting YOU lost your stuff, you simply wave him off, trying to cast off the blame.

You: "Bah! I don't remember that, bad memory ya know?"

Inari: "You can't blame your amnesia for every time you forget to do something." He says while pinching the bridge of his nose in slight annoyance.

You: "I can and I will!" You say with an arrogant 'hmph' noise while flipping your hair dramatically. "Now come on, we gotta find our stuff YOU lost." Inari simply sighs knowing he's never going to change your stubborn mind, you sniff the air as your nose picks up the soft scent of sweat and anxiety right behind you as you see Jaune with a map looking at both of you.

Jaune: "O-oh you guys lost your stuff too? Thank goodness I'm not the only one." And the day just keeps getting better, now you're just as lost as Vomit Boy. "Who knew this school had SO many lockers, right?" He then walks past you both as you groan.

You: "Okay, that's it. I'm gonna do what I should've done in the first place." You say while holding out your hand as you just wait for a few moments, Inari looks at you with concern.

Inari: "I really don't think that's a good idea, (F)." He crosses his arms as you continue holding your hand out.

You: "Pfft, when I have ever not had a good idea, Specks." You can hear the sounds of something metal scrapping in the distance, you both turn in the direction you heard the metal scrapping sounds and head towards it.

Inari: "I can list 30 separate examples off the top of my head." The scrapping sounds get louder as does the looks of concern and curiousness of other students, looking in the direction as now you notice that one of the lockers is harshly being dragged along the ground, sparks flying from the weight of the locker scrapping against the ground.

You: "Oh so THAT you remember, huh? And look at that, there's our stuff, see? Told you it was a good-" Suddenly your Empyrean bursts out of the locker at intensely high speed, messily knocking into several other lockers, causing them to topple over and nearly hitting multiple students as they duck and dive out of the way in terror. Your eyes widen in shock as your board simply flies back into your hand with enough force to cause you to fly back slightly, knocking the wind out of you "Ow-" You weakly manage to squeak out as you sit up, noticing that those terrified students have quickly become VERY ANGRY looking students.

Inari: "...You were saying?" He says with a very disappointed look on his face, he helps you up as luckily during the whole crazy flying board incident, Inari's Kanagawa was knocked out of the locker next to yours and flew right on the ground and rolled right up to Inari's feet. He swiftly picks it up and places it in his shirt's pocket before you both RAPIDLY exit that section of the hallway. Doing your best to not look any of the bewildered students in the eye, if you were wanting to have a good impression on your classmates...you certainly are doing the BEST job, truly.

You're both glancing around somewhat nervously while walking down the hallways of the really massive locker room. Suddenly, your nose catches the scent of what's quickly becoming a very familiar scent of Crocus scented perfume that you now completely affiliate with Weiss, your eyes dart around, subconsciously looking for any signs of a very annoyed, oddly adorable Ice Queen but nothing seems to catch your eye. You stop as your nose directs you towards one locker in particular where the scent is emanating from the most. You stop, looking directly at it as Inari glances back, noticing that you stopped before looking at you with a confused look on his face.

Inari: "Something the matter, (F)?" Your mind flashes back to the previous night, right before you went to bed. The moment you and Weiss' eyes were locked onto each other and the look you both gave each other...that moment is now playing on loop constantly. You sigh, digging around in your pocket, pulling out her necklace once again. Your thumb slightly rubs against the smooth apple pendant on it for a while, before glancing over at Inari.

You: "Think you can help me open that locker?"

Inari: "So you can steal more from someone with ties to the Schnee Dust Company? Absolutely not, it's a miracle we haven't already had someone sent to silence us for messing with the Heiress to such a heinous company." He says while rolling his eyes, his utter distain for their brand as a whole is as clear as day.

You: "It's not like that, Inari. Just wanting to give her this back, simple as that." You say while holding up her necklace. Inari looks at you with intrigue.

Inari: "Why not just hand it to her, like a normal person?" You scoff as the thought of being normal.

You: "Pfft, nah. Do I seem like a normal person to you? C'mon, just help me open the stupid locker before she gets over here, oh can I borrow your pen as well?" He looks at you with a 'really?' face for a while before his expression softens. He sighs and closes his eyes before walking up to her locker, his eyes constricting into narrow slits, studying the number pad on it for a few moments. Eventually he quickly taps in a 6 digit code, the locker swings open as he tosses his pen over to you, the heavy weight of the pen always surprises you, but it makes sense considering this is also his weapon. You smirk "Thanks, Specks."

(A Few Minutes Later| Weiss' POV)

While I didn't notice it last night, I certainly did this morning when I changed into my proper attire for the day but once again the necklace my sister had gotten for me has been stolen yet again! I don't even need to speculate where it is either because I know for a fact that Ruffian has to be the culprit behind this, I expect nothing less from some low life thief like him. Ugh! I have half a mind to report him to Professor Goodwitch and just be done with him before this schoolyear even starts, why is it that he insists on tormenting me! Just one other annoyance to add on the ever growing pile at this school, first there was that idiot girl Ruby practically trying to kill me on my first day, that blond boy dolt who continues to make a pass at me and now this Ruffian who thinks my jewelry is his to just steal from me! How does he even do that!? I focus on his eyes for one second and he just swipes it under my nose!

Despite that, my mind can't help but be drawn to think of him every once in a while. Perhaps it's simply due to his outrageously aggravating personality but my heart always seems to start to race while he's around, not sure why that is. Whatever it may be, I must keep it under control, this is no way for a future Huntress to act to be getting this upset over some boy, who's NAME mind you, I don't even KNOW! Him and his surprisingly handsome eyes, what gives him the right to think he can just use those and just...look at me that way back at the ballroom...

I'm getting distracted once again, focus Weiss. Standing in front of my currently closed locker, my eyes glance over as I see my first primary target for who could be a part of my team at Beacon, Pyrrha Nikos. She's currently getting herself situated for the day as I go to open my locker to grab my Myrtenaster. I swing the locker door open and reach out to grab my weapon, I place my rapier at my side to let it dangle off of my hip. I'm about to close my locker before in the corner of my eye I see...my necklace!? It's being hung up against the wall of the locker, a small note is attached to it. I sigh angrily, of course that Ruffian would know how to get into my locker, frankly not even surprised at this point. I quickly grab my necklace and place it around my neck, my eyes swiftly glance around me to ensure that he hadn't somehow managed to sneak up on me. I hold onto the note with some anxiousness...why am I getting nervous for this? I roll my eyes before opening the note.

You (Note): "Try not to lose this during initiation today, Ice Queen. Gotta steal it some other time. From your favorite Ruffian." His handwriting is barely legible because of course it is. A very rough sketch of what I can only assume is supposed to be an angry version of me trying to chase down what I think is supposed to be him riding away on that barbaric board of his. It's crude and frankly a breach of privacy for him to have left an entire note in my locker but...despite that, my eyes keep reading the same words over and over. Why is my heart racing so much? Get yourself together, Weiss. I fold the note neatly before putting it away as I close the locker before clearing my throat, I slightly advery my gaze as I see that blonde boy from before approaching looking hopelessly lost, he walks past before I glance over at Pyrrha.

Weiss: "So, Pyrrha, have you given any thought to whose team you would like to be on? I'm sure everyone must be eager to unite with such a strong, well-known individual such as yourself!" That's it Weiss, throw out words of praise to let down her guard before sealing the deal.

Pyrrha: "Hmm... I'm not quite sure. I was planning on letting the chips fall where they may." She places her hand on her hip as she thinks to herself, now's the time to lull her into my plan!

Weiss: "Well... I was thinking maybe we could be on a team together." I place my hand on my hip as I speak.

Pyrrha: "Well, that sounds grand!"

Weiss: "Great!" I clasp my hands together, turning away from her as a fiendish smile forms on my face, all according to my master plan.

Weiss (Subconscious): "This will be perfect! The smartest girl in class combined with the strongest girl in class! Together we will be unstoppable! I can see it now! We'll be popular! We'll be celebrities! We'll get perfect grades! Nothing can come between us now!" My thoughts of absolute victory are interrupted as I hear someone walking right behind me.

Jaune: "You know what else is great? Me. Jaune Arc. Nice to meet you." Not this imbecile again, I cross my arms as my eyes narrow in annoyance.

Weiss (Irritated): "You again?" Pyrrha quickly leans over and waves slightly, attempting to be seen by Jaune.

Pyrrha: "Nice to meet you, Jaune!" She smiles warmly at Jaune.

Jaune: "Yeah, yeah." He rather harshly pushes Pyrrha to the side, getting uncomfortably close to me as annoyance only grows with every moment that he's around. "So, Weiss, couldn't help but overhear your fondness of me the other day." He flexes his arm that is sorely lacking any muscle definition as I raise my hand up to my face, this school is surely testing my patience.

Weiss: "Oh, you've got to be kidding me!"

Jaune: "Don't worry! No need to be embarrassed! So, been hearing rumors about teeaaams~! I was thinking you and me would make a good one! What do you say?" He leans in closer as I just look away not even wanting to give him the time of day.

Pyrrha: "Actually, I think the teams are comprised of four students each, so-" Jaune glances over at Pyrrha.

Jaune: "You don't say." He then quickly steps over to poor Pyrrha "Well, hot stuff, play your cards right and maybe you could join up with the winning team." Alright, I can't stand this imbecile's nonsense any longer, I quickly step between the two, pushing Jaune back from approaching Pyrrha...

Weiss: "Jaune, is it? Do you have any idea who you're talking to?"

Jaune: "Not in the slightest, snow angel." He says while leaning forwards as I'm just going to outright ignore that name.

Weiss: "This is Pyrrha." I say while raising my hand to gesture to her, I cross my arms.

Pyrrha: "Hello again!" She waves happily with a cheerful voice.

Weiss: "Pyrrha graduated top of her class at Sanctum!"

Jaune: "Never heard of it." I scoff, of course he hasn't. How is someone as clearly inexperienced as him even able to get into this academy?

Weiss: "She's won the Mistral Region Tournaments four years in a row! A new record!"

Jaune: "The what?" I take a moment to just look at him, dumbfounded. This boy is going to make me completely snap today.

Weiss: "She's on the front of every Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes box!" I yell angrily, waving my arms in the air rapidly.

You: "Oh hey! That's my favorite cereal!" I jump slightly from the sound of that ruffian's voice popping out from behind me, we share a glance as I give him a mean look as he only winks at me, damn him. I notice that just past him the other boy he always travels with is currently talking with that brain-dead Ruby and her incorrigible sister.

Weiss: "Ugh, you again. Doesn't surprise me that someone like you would eat something as childish as that." I say turning my head away from him, he glances down at my neck, undoubtably must be looking at my necklace as I place my hand on it to make sure this thug doesn't try to steal it again, he smirks as he leans his body against his board that he's holding vertically.

Jaune: "That's you?!" He says with a gasp and points at Pyrrha "But they only do that for star athletes and cartoon characters!"

Pyrrha: "Yeah, it was pretty cool. Sadly, the cereal isn't very good for you." Exactly my point, just sugary nonsense...unfortunately it does taste great despite that, not that I'd ever reveal that information.

Weiss: "So, after hearing all of this, do you really think you're in a position to ask her to be on your team?"

Jaune: "I guess not... Sorry..." He lowers his head and slumps downwards I feel something slightly bump into my shoulder. I glance back to see the ruffian's right next to me, I look at him angrily.

You: "Team? Is there like a group exercise thing happening that I missed?" He glances at me, a confused look on his face as I pinch the bridge of my nose in annoyance.

Weiss: "I'm surrounded by idiots..." Of course this thief doesn't know anything about this school either, probably stole someone's proper spot at this academy now I'm stuck dealing with him

You: "Hey, take it easy on the guy, I'm sure he'd be a great addition to whatever little team you guys are making." He looks at me with that damned smirk of his.

Weiss: "Oh be quiet, you don't even know what we're talking about!" He shrugs.

Pyrrha: "Actually, Jaune, I think you'd make a great leader!" I glance back over to see that Pyrrha has walked over to Jaune, placing a hand on his shoulder, you simply MUST be joking.

Jaune: "D'oh, stop it!" He says while clasping his hands together, leaning forwards as I huff angrily, walking up behind Jaune with my hands rested at my hips.

Weiss: "Seriously, please stop it. This kind of behavior should not be encouraged!"

Jaune: "Sounds like Pyrrha's on board for Team Jaune. Spots are filling up quick! Now, I'm not supposed to do this, but maybe I could pull some strings, find a place for you. What do you say?" He says while getting way too close to my face, I back up slightly as I feel myself bump into that thief, I glance back as he has an extremely aggravating smug smirk on his face that I wish I could slap off.

You: "Hey, mind if I join? This group exercise thing sounds fun." I groan before noticing Jaune keeps trying to get closer

Weiss: "Okay first off, you shut up." I say pointing back at him, not even glancing over at that thief. "Second of all, that's a bit too close! Pyrrha, a little help, please?!" I glance past him to see Pyrrha grab her spear as it extends, I step slightly out of the way as she flings it. Jaune looks back just in time with widened eyes to be flung past us all.

(Your POV)

Pyrrha: "I'm sorry!" You see her quickly yell while waving. Jaune can just not get a break at this school, can't he? You glance over at Weiss as she looks at you angrily, like usual.

Weiss: "Did you need something, or were you just planning to steal something from me again, Ruffian?" She says crossing her arms, her nose scrunching up in an adorable manner.

You: "First of all, I have a name, Ice Queen. Secondly, nah not right now cause you're expecting it. I gotta pick the right time to do it, don't you know how stealing things work?" The mention of the nickname you came up for her quickly agitates her.

Weiss: "I told you to quit calling me that! Why on Remnant would I know how to steal something? What's wrong with you!? And it's not like you've ever told me your name either. What else am I supposed to call you?" She looks at you with a mix of anger and now intrigue on her face.

You: "I never told you my name? Huh, must've slipped my mind, I'm just far too busy thieving as one does." You say with a snarky attitude as she rolls her eyes, from the look in her eyes it seems she's impatiently waiting for you to actually say your name "Fine, my name's (F)."

Weiss: "(F)? Hmph, I think Ruffian suits you better." You roll your eyes with a slight smirk. She looks at you intensely for a few seconds, you both are locking eyes with one another as it seems she's just about to say something before you both head the intercom begin to play.

Glynda (Intercom): "Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation? Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately." Weiss sighs before glancing back at you angrily as you simply wink at her. A soft pink blush makes its way on her face as she groans in annoyance.

You: "See ya out there, Ice Queen." She rolls her eyes before swiftly walking away from you, you hear footsteps behind you as you glance back to see Inari, Ruby, and Yang.

Inari: "What is your deal with her?" You look at him with a raised eyebrow, Yang has a wide smirk on her face but Ruby seems equally perplexed.

You: "What do you mean?"

Inari: "You seem to go out of your way to try to agitate her, I dislike the Schnee's with a passion but you don't see me doing what you do to her."  You shrug and place your hands in your jacket's pockets, you see Yang whisper with a slight laugh into Ruby's ear as Ruby looks at her with extreme confusion.

You: "What are y'all whispering about? Do I have something on my face?" You say while instinctively checking your face with your hand, not feeling anything out of place.

Yang: "Ooooh nothin', just think it's pretty obvious you're crushing on her, aren'tcha?" Your eyes widen in a comical manner as Inari looks at you with narrowed eyes, his pupils constricting into slits as he studies you carefully.

You: "Pffffft, absolutely not! I literally met her yesterday, I barely know her and all she's done is shout at me. I just think it's fun to mess with her." Yang chuckles lightly as Ruby is now looking back and forth between you two.

Yang: "Oh c'mon it's obvious! It's like watching a boy tug on a girl's pigtails cause he likes her." You scoff at the utter prospect that you actually have a crush on her. That's utterly ridiculous, absolute lunacy, completely insane, you would never-....oh no...nonononono. Your eyes widen as you try to bury the thought completely. No, that's just wrong, right?

Ruby: "Wow, really (F)? Do you actually like her?"

You: "Nononono, that's absolutely insane. I would never!" You say quickly avoiding eye contact, your typically cool, laid-back mannerisms have quickly jumped out of the window as Inari sighs heavily.

Yang: "Mmmmhhhmmmm, suuuurreee. Looks like you and Jaune got a little competition goin' to see who can melt that Ice Queen's heart."

You: "SPEAKING OF WHICH, there's Jaune! Let's go help him out, aight? Aight." You say very quickly trying to talk about literally anything else. Glancing over to see Jaune is still hanging from the spear thrown at his hoodie. All together you begin walking over to him as Pyrrha walks by Jaune, holding out her hand as you barely hear a faint humming sound, her spear going back into her hand. Oh cool, maybe she has a similar implant in her hands that lets her call back her weapon like you do with yours. Jaune drops to the ground.

Pyrrha: "It was nice meeting you!"

Jaune: "Likewise..." He says dejectedly, slumping against the locker as you all approach.

Yang: "Having some trouble there, lady-killer?" Ruby walks a bit closer to Jaune to extend her hand.

Jaune: "I don't understand. My dad said all women look for is confidence! Where did I go wrong?" He then accepts Ruby's hand as Ruby helps lift him back up to his feet.

Yang: "'Snow Angel' probably wasn't the best start." She says while scratching her head a bit.

You: "Next time, try Ice Queen. It's her favorite." You say while scratching your nose, Yang looks back at you with a cheeky smirk as you do your best to simply ignore it.

Ruby: "Come on, Jaune, let's go." You quickly pop in front Jaune's other side to help support him as well as you lead Jaune out of the locker room. Yang's words keep playing over and over in your head, you shake your head and close your mind to that line of thought.

(Later| Beacon Cliff)

You're all standing by a very steep cliff overlooking a vast forest, you can see mountains in the distances as you're all now standing on silver tiles Ozpin and Glynda instructed you to step on. They're now in front of you and the rest of the students as Professor Ozpin holds his coffee mug that you now noticed you've never seen empty along with Glynda with her tablet.

Ozpin: "For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." You glance over to your right to see you're standing to the left of Weiss and to the right of Inari.

Glynda: "Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of "teams." Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... today." You look at her with a slight tilt of your head. It seems like you now know what Weiss and the others were talking about in the locker room. You've always been a pretty solid duo with Inari, if it's just you and him you're sure you'll be fine.

You: "Wait how many people are on a team?" You whisper while leaning over towards Weiss as she glances over at you, rolling her eyes.

Weiss: "Four. I assume you can count, right?" You take a sharp breath and breathe out slowly.

You: "About as well as I can steal from whiny brats." You say with a wink, she glares at you, like usual.

Ruby: "What? Ohhh..." You can barely hear Ruby's voice as you lean forward slightly to see that she has a concerned look on her face.

Ozpin: "These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well." You hear Ruby groan as Inari glances over at you with a nod.

Inari: "That doesn't sound too unreasonable then."

You: "You're in trouble then, Ice Queen. Can't think of anyone who can put up with you for a week let alone that long." You give her a snarky smile as she doesn't even look over at you. It seems like she's thinking to herself over something.

Weiss: "Quiet, Ruffian." She shortly states.

Ozpin: "That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years." You and Inari's eyes shoot open in surprise. You hear Weiss sigh softly and reel her head back, her eyes closed for a few moments before focusing herself.

Ruby: "Whaaaat?!" You hear Ruby screech, honestly you feel the same way that is...intense to say the least. You're gonna have to do you're best to try to find Inari first then, otherwise this year is gonna be even more hellish than it already was gonna be.

You: "Wow that is...harsh. Guess we just keep our eyes closed and scream until we find each other, ey Inari?" You give Inari a little elbow bump on his side, you look over at him as he seems distracted. "Inari?" You look at him with narrowed eyes and some confusion as he's looking down the line of students, his eyes constricted once again. "Uh- you good?" You lean forwards to see what he's looking at, your eyes don't catch anything out of the ordinary until you notice that gloomy girl in all black from the other day. She's solely looking straight ahead but Inari is undoubtably staring directly at her "Hmm..." Your eyes dart back and forth between the two of them.

Ozpin: "After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die." Man this school's a lot more intense than you thought. You dig it though, maybe being here won't be that bad after all. You can barely making out Jaune's nervous laughter from where you are "You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?" Relics? That's...descriptive, you're not sure what a relic is supposed to look like exactly...how many people have died taking this test? Surely more than one, right?

Jaune: "Yeah, um, sir?" You glance over to see Jaune raising his hand shyly.

Ozpin: "Good! Now, take your positions." Ozpin says, promptly ignoring him. You shrug and move your head around, the sounds of your neck cracking is heard as you take a deep breath. You grab onto your board tightly. You glance down at it as you see it's amber core is sputtering and growing dim. Damn, it's getting low on Dust again, this is horrible timing. You glance down at the empty vials of Dust that are clipped onto your belt as your close your fist tightly.

You: "Damn it...out of Dust." You mutter to yourself, in the corner of your eye you notice Weiss glance over at you. A soft sigh coming from her mouth as you see her dig around in her pockets...you didn't realize that dress even had pockets but you learn something new everyday.

Weiss: "Here." She shortly states, looking at you with a serious expression. You look down to see she's holding out a few small vials of Fire, Lightning and Gravity Dust. You look at her with intrigue as she groans angrily, practically shoving the vials to your chest. You grab onto them unexpectedly

You: "I-...why?" She turns away from you, looking forwards as she takes out her rapier and holds it at the ready.

Weiss: "Even if you are a no-good delinquent, I don't want you dying out there because you weren't prepare for this." You smirk softly, hooking the vials to your belt while opening the vial of Gravity Dust and pouring a decent amount into your Empyrean's energy tank.

You: "Aww, Weiss. This is the nicest thing you've ever done for me or well anyone from what I can tell. I'm so proud." Weiss' face visibly contorts in annoyance, a small blush appearing on her cheeks.

Weiss: "Just shut up and get ready, Ruffian." You chuckle as you take a stance, glancing over to your left as you see multiple students getting launched into the forest

Inari: "I'll send out a signal when I get to the ground, find me." He says while pushing up his glasses and pulling out his pen, clicking it as it morphs and shifts into its spear form. You give him a small salute as he nods before the platform underneath him clicks and whirrs before he is catapulted off. You brace yourself as you're next in line, you glance over at Weiss. She seems focused, looking straight ahead but you notice for a moment she looks over at you. You give her a wink as she rolls her eyes with a small blush.

You feel the mechanisms whir underneath you as you are violently catapulted into the air. You yell out in joy as in the air you tuck your hands together before spinning and flipping several times in free fall. Extending your arms as your body steadies itself in the air. You quickly hop onto your board as it hums, spinning your lower body as you kickflip your board just for the hell of it and gripping onto the front edge of the board. You have a wide smirk on your face as you freefall your way down into the dense Emerald Forest.
