RWBY - (Volume 1) Chapter 2.
RWBY - (Volume 1) Chapter 2: First Impressions
You and Inari have since walked off the enormous airship that brought you here, the two of you stand there in awe of the utter beauty that this Beacon Academy has. It's certainly an upgrade to the alleyways and slums that you've both unwillingly had to take refuge in. Inari in particular seems rather starry-eyed upon seeing the architecture of the enormous school. He doesn't remember much of his past either but still for as long as you can remember, which granted is only a few months, he always had an extremely fond appreciation of the arts. You can't really say you feel the same about it but you're glad your only friend is currently having the time of his life right now. You glance around, your eyes sifting through the large crowds of brand new students all eagerly getting off of droves of airships pulling in...Some seem a liiiittle more eager than others as you watch a taller, frail blond guy shove his way past you, holding his mouth and stomach. He lurches over into a nearby extremely unfortunate bush as you hear him vomiting his lungs out.
You: "Uuuuuhhh, you good there? Somehow I don't think projectile vomiting is a healthy alternative for fertilizer for the plants here." You state with a bit of a snarky smirk as Inari slightly elbows you, you both watch him catch his breath and wipe his face off as he turns around. It feels like he's got exactly no clue what he's doing.
Vomit Boy: "O-oh yeah! I'm fine uh...sorry you had to see that." He embarrassingly scratches the back of his head for a moment before continuing "Just really nervous, ya know, those airships are SO unsteady sometimes, talk about some bad turbulence, right?" You genuinely thought that was the smoothest flight you've ever been on
You: "Not at al-" You get elbowed harder in the gut by Inari as you flinch in pain and shoot a quick glare at Inari before feigning a smile for the Vomit Boy "I-I meean yeeeaah totally, that flight was the worst, no inflight movies or nothing, nearly vomited myself."
Vomit Boy: "Really!? Good, I thought I was the only one getting nervous there. It's a relief I'm not the only one." He states with a relieved look on his face
You: "Anywho, what's your name, dude? I mean I already came up with the name Vomit Boy but I'd doubt you approve of that."
Jaune: "O-oh right. The name's Jaune Arc, it's short, sweet, rolls off the tongue and the ladies love it." There's a rather uncomfortably long pause as he overconfidently says that. Both you and Inari sharing a glance at one another.
You: "...Do they really?" Jaune's overconfident bravado very quickly deflates to a look of defeat.
Jaune: "No...b-but my mom always said 'Jaune, all you need for a girl to notice you is confidence'!" He states with a naive, innocent look on his face...you can tell this man has never held a decent conversation with a girl in his life. Granted, you don't have much experience either but that's literally not your fault, you don't know who you used to be so for all you know you've could've swooned hundreds of women in the past...though you heavily doubt that but one can certainly dream. Moving past that, he's gonna be a work in progress, to say the least.
Inari: "Well...keep that energy up and I'm sure a girl with um...undying loyalty will turn up." He says with a nod, his eyes glancing at you for a moment, waiting for you to reply as well, you take the hint and snap your fingers and point at him with a smirk.
You: "Yeah you'll knock 'em dead, Vomit Boy!" Jaune sighs sadly upon the new nickname that has now permanently been engraved into his mind. Once again Inari does not want to give your gut alone with now a VERY strong elbow directly to the side of your stomach.
Jaune: "So what are your guys' names?"
Inari: "Inari (Lastname), and (Firstname) (Lastname)." He glances between the two of you. A curious look on his face before he speaks
Jaune: "Oh really you guys are brothers? You don't really look like siblings." Your eyes widen slightly as Inari scratches the back of his neck getting slightly nervous as you quickly take over.
You: "You'd be right, we're cousins! Both of our..." you quickly grumble under your breath attempting to remember what's the correct word "What's the name for them- uh- parents just decided to keep the same last name. We can understand the confusion though." Evading questions from people has sort of become a specialty of yours due to your rather...checkered past.
Jaune: "Ah, my mistake then uh- I think I'm gonna try to get my bearings around the school for a bit, I'll see you both around then." Inari nods and you give a quick two-finger salute as he walks off.
Inari: "Well he was certainly unique." He ponders while scratching his chin curiously as you shrug
You: "Out of all the people we've met...he was certainly one of them." You say failing to really focus on what you thought about Jaune. Your mind seems to be preoccupied with other thoughts, Inari notices this distracted tone of yours as he glances over
Oddly enough that...unique interaction with that girl you've mentally started labeling as Ice Queen has not managed to leave your head just yet. From the looks of the clothing she wore along with the general vibe you felt around her, you get the feeling she probably comes from high nobility somewhere. You remember only the faintest bits of your time in Atlas, but that type of vibe is not something you feel extraordinarily thrilled to be around. However, something about her was rather enticing to you. You're simply spinning the earring you 'liberated' from her around your pointer finger as Inari glances down to see that you once again have an item that does not necessarily belong to you.
Inari: "(F) for the love of the Gods, could you not have waited at least TEN minutes before you started pickpocketing things?" You glance over at him with a 'shocked' expression, looking down at your hand as if you are completely perplexed that the earring is in your hand.
You: "What matter of dark arcane arts is this!? It seems as though the world itself has bestowed upon me some matter of jewelry in my hands!" You say with a grandiose, over the top accent, Inari glaring at you not appreciating your deceptively good improv skills. "Look it belonged to that rich girl, I'm sure she can afford 300 more pairs of these before it even begins to make a dent in her allowance."
Inari: "Look we're trying to lie low here. And this is a real chance to get a fresh start here and possibly even make some friends so you're going to RETURN that earring to her before she realizes its missing." You groan, tossing your head back thinking for a few moments.
You: "Fiiiiinnneee, but I'm not gonna like it." You grumble with a bit of a pout, glancing around and beginning to walk down the path to the school, keeping your eyes out for any sign of a stingy girl with really gorgeous eyes- damn it, you're getting distracted.
Along the way you note some rather interesting individuals, one guy who seemed to have a bit of a muted personality while having a emerald green tailcoat with a magenta streak in his hair having to drag back a VERY enthusiastic girl with a white, sleeveless vest with detached sleeves and fingerless gloves with a heart shape cutout slightly above the chest with orange hair. Poor guy must be stuck dragging her around everywhere, what a shame. Your attention turns to see a rather familiar red hood swaying in the slight breeze, you give Inari a small nudge as you both look to see upon further observation that it's definitely the little red girl who you unexpectedly met at the Dust store the other day. You're a bit surprised to see her here, she seems a few years younger than most of the people attending, maybe she's a special case. She's standing next to another girl, definitely older who has rather long, wavy, blonde hair that while sporting a tan jacket that shows off her midriff and a yellow crop top that's certainly slightly revealing some...features to put it mildly. You quickly snap your eyes away from that.
Inari: "That's the girl from last night, we should properly introduce ourselves."
You: "You're probably right. The last time we saw her, I'm pretty sure she thought we would get arrested..." You say as you both begin walking towards the the two girls, it seems the red hooded girl is fawning over the sight of different weapons, before rather quickly the blond girl quickly joins a group of other students and QUICKLY speeds off. Your eyes trail away from the now confused red hooded girl to see that the Ice Queen herself is moving her luggage right behind her buuuut the red hooded girl being very dazed spins around and falls riiight onto her luggage, a bunch of her suitcases flying everywhere, one of them sliding over next to you. "HAH-!" You yell out with a laugh, quickly having to stop yourself as you watch the Ice Queen's face contort in anger looking down at the poor, confused girl. "We should uh- probably help with that, huh?" Inari nods as you sniff the air, you can smell the distinct scent of multiple types of dust very close by, you glance down at the suitcase that landed by you with curiosity. You quickly pick up the suitcase and open it seeing several types of Dust vials, you're just about to reach out for one of the vials when you feel Inari slap away your hand as you glance over at him annoyed.
Little Red: "Uh, sorry!" The young girl quickly exclaims slightly sitting up in surprise.
Ice Queen: "Sorry?! Do you have any idea of the damage you could have caused?" This Ice Queen is certainly living up to the name you've given her for being this upset over a simple mistake. You and Inari walk over to them both as they both for a moment glance over at you, the Ice Queen rolling her eyes upon the sight of you as you flash a snarky smirk. The red hooded girl seems grateful to see a familiar face before she goes to pick up one of the cases that got scattered about.
Little Red: "Uuhhh..."
Ice Queen: "Give me that!" She snatches the luggage from the girl rather violently as she quickly opens it as you glance over to see that just like the previous case you opened there's several vials of different types of Dust. "This is Dust- mined and purified from the Schnee Quarry!" Once again the name Schnee just really seems to irk you for some odd reason as she picks out a vial of Fire Dust.
You: "Listen, I'm sure we can all calm down juuust a little b-"
Ice Queen: "YOU aren't involved in this conversation, Ruffian." She snaps as you shrug and only give a snarky smirk which only seems to agitate her more, her adorable nose scrunches up in anger at the sight of you.
Little Red: "Uuuhhhh..." The girl glances over at you with a look that screams 'please help me' as you're about to speak only for the Ice Queen to start yelling again.
Ice Queen: "What are you, brain-dead?" She holds out the vial of Fire Dust and slams the case shut, as small puffs of several different kinds of powdered Dust waft out from the case, lingering in the air "Dust! Fire, water, lightning, energy!" She yells while shaking the vial of Fire Dust a little bit too aggressively as you can clearly see a good amount of its contents start leaking out, mixing with the growing cloud of different Dust energies. You breath in through your nose rather sharply as you feel the slightest hint of that Dust cloud entering into your lungs, the core in your chest humming, softly glowing with a amber color getting a small taste of the Dust lingering in the air.
Little Red: "I... I know..." The girl starts coughing and sniffing violently from the Dust basically being shoved into her face as you begin to see her head reel back, your eyes widen as you know what's about to happen.
Ice Queen: "Are you even listening to me? Is any of this sinking in? What do you have to say for yourself?!" She yells and still violently shaking that vial of Dust more and more right into her face as you and Inari step slightly back in preparation.
And just like you expected the red hooded girl finally lets out a mighty sneeze, which in turns causes a violent chain reaction of all of the Dust in the air igniting violently into a messy blast of flames, snow, and sparks of lightning which all directly engulfs the Ice Queen. Your eyes widen in shock as you quickly snort and nearly burst out into a fit of laughter before quickly having to stifle it as you just KNOW that will only makes things go from bad to worse, though you are practically beaming from joy.
Ice Queen: "Unbelievable! This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about!" You look over to see that the smoke has now dispersed, the Ice Queen completely covered in soot as she looks just about ready to burst as the red hooded girl shyly taps her fingers together avoiding eye contact.
Little Red: "I'm really, really sorry!" She says glances up to look at her apologetically and glancing back down towards the ground.
Ice Queen: "Ugh, you complete dolt! What are you even doing here? Aren't you a little young to be attending Beacon?" She yells, simply not letting the poor girl breathe.
Inari: "It was a simple mistake, I'm sure we can come to an understan-"
Ice Queen: "It was MORE than just a mistake, she could've blasted me off the face of Remnant!"
You: "Annnnd that would be a bad thing?" You slyly smirk as she furiously looks over at you, Inari quickly punches you in the arm, you hold your arm in pain.
Little Red: "Well, I-I..."
Ice Queen: "This isn't your ordinary combat school. It's not just sparring and practice, you know! We're here to fight monsters, so... watch where you're going!" She exclaims while crossing her arms together once again while giving a judgmental look before looking away with a huff. Little Red's eyes light up with anger.
Little Red: "Hey, I said I was sorry, princess!" She angrily states, her eyes narrowing as she finally stands up for herself, you don't know this girl that well but you can't help but feel proud of her.
???: "It's heiress, actually." You hear a new voice you hadn't heard before off to the side, you all glance over as you see another girl with a black, buttoned vest with coattails with a white, sleeveless undershirt underneath. She has amber eyes, wavy pitch black hair and a black ribbon tied onto a bow on the top of her head. You don't know why but you get an overwhelming feeling that this girl has an atmosphere of gloom around here. She carries a vial of Fire Dust in her hand, looking at it.
Gloomy Girl: "Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, one of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world." Weiss is a nice na- wait, she's a Schnee??? No wonder you felt that air of nobility around her, Inari gets noticeably upset upon realization that there's Schnee in front of him.
Weiss: "Finally! Some recognition!" She yells happily with a smug smirk on her face as you roll your eyes.
Gloomy Girl: "The same company infamous for its controversial labor forces and questionable business partners." Ohohoho! Dayum you like this girl, she tells it like it is.
Weiss: "Wha- How dare- The nerve of..." The Schnee Heiress gets upset as you hear the red hooded girl chuckle.
You: "A Schnee huh? No wonder I could feel the snobby attitude from a mile away." The Ice Queen you now know as Weiss Schnee shoots a glare over at you, her eyes lock with yours. Your words seemed to have cut rather deep even if she is hiding it extraordinarily well.
Weiss: "Ugh!" She gets up in the gloomy girl's face and takes the bottle from her, walking off in a huff as you glance behind her to see that her butlers from earlier are gathering her luggage, slowly following behind.
Ruby: "I promise I'll make this up to you!" She sighs "I guess I'm not the only one having a rough first day... So, what's..." She glances back to see that the gloomy looking girl has started walking off again without saying a word, she looks quite down as she simply collapses to the ground on her back "Welcome to Beacon..."
You: "...Keep an eye on little red over here, I'm gonna go talk to that Schnee girl." You say, glancing over at Inari as he nods in response. You breathe out a heavy sigh before tossing down your Empyrean it flickers to life as you hop onto it and swiftly move through the crowds of students.
(A Few Moments Later)
It took you a moment to find her, you're quickly realizing that one she can move SURPRISINGLY fast in those high heels and two that this academy is a looot bigger than you thought. After a few minutes you finally find Weiss still stomping away angrily
You: "Ey, Ice Queen wait up a moment." The still fiercely walking girl's head glances back for a moment before coming to a swift halt. She takes an extremely deep breath and doesn't face you as you maneuver your board to swerve around her to face in front of her as she looks at you, unamused with her arms crossed.
Weiss: "Ugh, what do YOU want? And my name isn't Ice Queen, Ruffian." She taps her finger against her arm impatiently as you look into her pale blue eyes.
You: "Listen, I think we just got off on the wrong foot back there." She lets out a small 'hmph' sound as she cocks her head to the side angrily.
Weiss: "That's putting it mildly. Give me ONE good reason why I shouldn't just completely ignore you." You hop off of your board and stomp on the edge of the board to cause it to fly up slightly, holding it in your arm as you dig around in your pocket for a moment before finally finding it.
You: "Well I think that you'd probably want this back, right?" Her eyes widening as you open your palm and show that once again you have her other earring that she hadn't notice was missing till juuust that moment. Quickly moving her hand up to feel her ear to confirm that it was indeed her earring, she looks embarrassed, her cheeks reddened once again as you smirk.
Weiss: "How did you-!? Ugh, stop stealing those!" She says once again swiping her earring out of your hand with a small blush, quickly fumbling and placing the earring back on, double checking that now both of them are in fact dangling from her earlobes.
You: "You make it REALLY easy though, I can't help myself." You say with a shrug and a smirk as her blush fades before giving that very quickly becoming normal glare of disapproval at you.
Weiss: "Look, did you have a point to this conversation or is this whole stealing something from me thing just a vain attempt to get me to pay attention to you." You shrug as honestly it could very well be a bit of both, not that you'd ever admit it though.
You: "What, you mean you don't enjoy conversating with me? I'm heartbroken Ice Queen, truly." You say with a dramatic, clearly sarcastic tone. She rolls her eyes as she looks like she's about ready to walk away, about to turn as you quickly attempt to try to find something to say. "I was joking about the whole snobby attitude thing by the way." She stops and looks at you, a confused look added into her rather angered expression.
Weiss: "What are you talking about?"
You: "Back when you kind of...well...exploded, I didn't actually think you had a snobby attitude." Her expressions softens just a small bit, her eyes darting away from yours as she glances down. "Even so, I can't lie when I say I do think you were being quite rude to that girl back there."
Weiss: "Well yeah! This school is for only the highest skilled Huntsmen and Huntresses in training, we're literally going to be fighting for our lives and eventually everyone's lives here! Mistakes like that just can NOT be tolerated at this level." She says while looking down, angrily. Once again tapping her finger against her crossed arms as you think to yourself.
You: "I can understand that a bit, I guess. She does seem younger than us...but you're telling me you've never made a mistake like that?" Her eyes glare back up at you with an look that almost feels like you've insulted her somehow.
Weiss: "Not if I can help it, my family did their absolute best to ensure that I always remember that."
You: "Well, you aren't your family, you are...well...yourself." She glances at you with a confused expression. Intrigued sure, but confused. Her eyes narrowing as it seems like she's trying to know what you're thinking.
Weiss: "Why do you even care? I literally just met you and you haven't exactly made a good first impression of yourself." She steps slightly closer to you as the difference between your heights have been made quite clear as she has to look upwards to keep her eyes locked against yours.
You: "If I'll be honest I'm not sure of that myself. I don't know much about the Schnee Dust Company, other than they have some rather shady business practices and that they're typically viewed as uncaring, greedy elites but...I see you, and I just don't get that vibe off of you." She looks at you rather intensely for a few moments before she closes her eyes.
Weiss: "You're a strange ruffian, you know that right?" You shrug with a smirk slyly as you now hold up the silver necklace with a small apple pendant attached to it that she was once around her neck, you spin it around your finger.
You: "Well this ruffian has got to go find where exactly orientation starts so I'll be seeing you around, Ice Queen." She looks at you with an annoyed glare at her nickname, which turns into a much more intense annoyance as she feels her neck upon seeing the necklace you're spinning in your hand, very quickly realizing that was hers.
Weiss: "How did you-! Why you little-! Give that ba-!" You quickly hop onto your board as it powers up, glancing back at her with a cheeky smirk.
You: "What was that!? I can't hear you over the-!" It whirs loudly as it flares off with shocking speed and you quickly shoot off into the crowds of students, glancing back as you see her utterly furious but oddly enough a soft blush in her face.
You: "Weiss Schnee huh...this'll be an interesting year. Better find Inari...just how big IS this school?" You mumble to yourself, looking around confused before glancing down at her necklace. You stuff it into your jacket's pocket as your Empyrean continues to push you through the crowds. Your forced year of attendance at Beacon begins.
(Definitely a smaller Chapter compared to the first but this whole Volume all has the shortest episodes, as you can see I'll add scenes and whatnot to further plot and romance developments so the chapters will continue to get longer as the series progresses, hope y'all enjoyed.)
