07|Being Me.
"When it rains look for rainbows when it is dark look for stars."
Bree's pov.
I feel someone's hand running through my hair and open my eyes to see Maria. She smiles at me, while I sit up in my bed and rub my eyes feeling a little better. I'm such a kid.
"How are you feeling now sweetheart?" Maria asks gently.
"Much better," I reply yawning before resting my head against the headboard.
"How about I get you your dinner into your room?" she suggests, and I nod with a small yet genuine smile.
I get off the bed once Maria leaves the room and get to the shower. After brushing my teeth, I put on a pair of shorts and a loose t-shirt. Pulling my hair into a messy bun, I sit cross-legged on my bed, and by the time Maria came, I'm watching frozen. There's nothing better than Disney movies.
"Here sweetheart, have the soup," Maria gives me a bowl of soup and sits down next to me. She then gives me some spaghetti to eat and I eat in silence while watching the movie.
"Someone came for you today," Maria speaks while breaking the silence.
"For me?" I ask confused, and she nods.
"His name is Aiden," she informs. I frown at his name, he came home to meet me? Wow! I think I should talk to him.
"I'll speak to him," I inform her still deep in thought.
I finish my dinner, and Maria leaves the room. I wonder why Aiden came home. I take my phone to check if Jackson called. There were calls but a message from an unknown number.
Unknown: how are you now baby doll?
Me: Aiden, is that you?
I send my message and put my phone aside. My phone buzzes immediately.
Aiden: wow! You actually recognized me.
Me: so why did you come home today?
Aiden: I wanted to know how you were. Annie told me you live on the same street as I do.
Me: oh. I'm fine now.
Aiden: Hmm... so are you coming to school tomorrow?
Me: I guess.
Aiden: Okay then good night. Tc. Bye.
Me: why are you being so good to me all of a sudden?
Aiden: no reason.
Me: Hmm... okay bye.
Aiden: bye.
After that, I put my phone for charge and get back to my movie. I couldn't sleep somehow. I put on my next film. Star Wars. But my mind is still clouded with thoughts of Aiden.
After about two movies I look at the time. It was 2:00 am already. I still couldn't sleep so I put off the movie and open my glass roof. The stars look so beautiful as they illuminate the night sky. Before I realize, the flood of sleep washes over me.
~
I wake up to the sunlight covering up my room. Shit, I forgot to close the roof. Roaming my hand around the bed with my eyes still closed, I finally find the remote and shut the roof. It is way too bright. I grab my phone and check the time. Fuck, 10:00am. That means I missed school. Not that I care, but it's strange that I actually fell asleep for this long. Getting off my bed, I head to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
It's strange that Maria didn't wake me up either. I wash my face once I finish brushing and wipe my face dry. I grab my phone and head out. I find Maria sitting on the couch as I descend the stairs.
"Maria you didn't actually wake me up?" I ask her, and she looks at me with a smile.
"I know you slept late last night and missing one day of school wouldn't make any difference," she reasons out casually. Maria gets me my coffee, and I call Jackson as I sip on it.
"Good morning Kitty," Jackson greets me with a cheery voice.
"Good morning brother," I greet him back.
"I see that you're getting back to normal you like watching late-night movies and getting up when you like to," he remarks elated, and I could imagine him grinning at the moment.
"Well, when I have a brother who's trying hard to get his sister back. The least I could do is try to be my old self," I say.
"Thank you for trying Kitty," he speaks.
"Actually, I didn't. It just happened," I state feeling a little guilty for not trying at all.
"Hmm...whatever, I'm still glad you're feeling better. I have a meeting to attend. Bye Kitty. Love you," Jackson says.
"Bye Jackson. Love you too," I say and hang up on the call. I feel different today. Like totally, I felt like the person I was a year ago.
~
It's is five in the evening, and I decided on doing something I haven't since the accident. I'm just waiting for it to get dark outside so I call Jackson. "Guess what Jackson. I'm doing something I haven't in a while. Just in case get ready to talk to the cops to get me a bail," I inform him.
"Oh my God! I miss doing it with you. Graffiti on the library wall. Just do it, Kitty. I'll take care of the rest," Jackson bleats in excitement, and I could imagine him smiling.
"Thank you so much, Jackson,"
"Anything time Kitty. Bye,"
"Bye," hanging up, I get to my room and pack my backpack with spray cans.
I put on my Jean shorts and a black crop top. Putting on a beanie, I leave my hair over my shoulders and check the time. It's 6:30 pm and it's quite a bit dark outside. Putting on my sneakers, I complete my look and walk down into the living room. I grab the cold coffee; Brad has brought for me before heading out.
"I'm going out!" I announce and open the door to step out but collide into someone. My whole coffee spills on the person. What a waste!
"I'm so sorry," I apologize before looking at who it is. Aiden. He licks the coffee around his mouth, and I burst out laughing.
"D-did you just lick it?" I ask him falling on the ground in fits of laughter.
"It tasted good," he shrugs with a smile walking in. Maria and Brad appear in the living room and until then I didn't realize that I was actually laughing until I saw shock written on their faces. I stop laughing and stand up. Did I just laugh? I missed laughing. I wonder how the smallest things can make you laugh.
"I'll give you my brother's t-shirt. Just clean yourself up," I tell Aiden who's still smirking at me.
Directing him to the washroom in Jackson's old room and I take out one of Jackson's t-shirt to give him. I keep it on the bed and step out. Jackson will be so happy to see me smile again but will that last forever? I can't help but wonder. I walk down into the living room, and Aiden follows.
"You look beautiful when you laugh," he compliments in a low voice making me blush.
"Shut up and tell me why you came. I've got somewhere to go," I state looking at Aiden and ignore the blush creeping up my face. Couldn't let my guard down.
"I'm coming with you," he says taking me by surprise making me raise an eyebrow at him. Interesting how he just blurted that out without giving it a second thought.
"It's going to be risky, and it may involve the cops," I inform him while observing his expression, he frowns at me at first but again smiles.
"Not that I care. So what are you doing?" Aiden inquires, and I roll my eyes. Once again, the endless questions.
"I've got no time to explain. If you want to come, then just follow me," I say and grab my bag.
"Just stay alert Brad. I'll give you a message or even if it crosses nine o'clock you know what to do," I tell Brad and get out. I get my Bentley this time, oh yeah too many cars but my dad loved having a collection.
~
"You ready?" I ask Aiden. I still can't believe I allowed him to come with me, and he nods grinning.
"Just be ready to run. Okay," I instruct him.
"Okay," he responds, and we get out of the car. He silently follows me. I hand him a spray can.
"Just spray paint whatever you want," I say, and he nods. I didn't prepare for any design, so I just go with a beach theme.
Half an hour and I'm done but no one has noticed us yet. Weird.
"Now I'll just put up the first alphabet of our names and we're going to run as fast as we can," I whisper, and he starts packing while I write A & B. I snap a few pictures of the piece of art I just made before somethings snaps me out of my thoughts and I shove my phone back into my pocket.
We hear sirens and that's our cue to run, "Come on run!" I whisper-shout, and we start running.
I catch up with Aiden and hear the cop's footsteps, they are way too far away from us. We get into the car, and I start driving fast. Real quick.
"I fucking did it! " I yell as I laugh at the same time. I'm just so fucking happy. I take off the roof of my convertible as I could feel the rush I didn't in over a year now.
"Oh my God I can't believe I did it after so long," I say glancing at Aiden with a smile still dancing on my face before looking back onto the road.
"That art was fucking awesome," he says with a wide smile, and yeah he actually smiled instead of smirking.
"Thank you," I say now smiling.
"You know you're smiling right?" he asks me smiling with his gaze constant on me making me blush but my thoughts shift from the happiness at the same time.
"If only it could last forever," I mummer, but I know he heard it and dial Jackson's number on the Bluetooth.
"Jackson I did it," I say smiling again and could feel Aiden's eyes on me.
"God you're back!" Jackson's voice laced with excitement, and since it was connected to my car, Aiden could hear it too. This was personal and I still can't believe I let Aiden in on this but I can't deny that I had a good time with him.
"Hopefully, it lasts," I mumble to myself, and every little excitement is all gone.
"It would Kitty. I'll just call you back I'm at the hospital with Amanda," he says clearly hearing my dialogue and I sigh.
"Yeah sure. Bye," I reply and for the first time, I'm happy that Jackson is busy. He doesn't need in on my changing moods which would mess up with his mind too.
"Bye," he finishes happily and hangs up.
"So?" I ask Aiden.
"You're such a badass," he points out laughing a little but also keeping his gaze fixed on me.
"Hmm... could you promise me something?" I ask him and bite my lower lip nervously as I concentrate on the road ahead.
"Yeah," he responds in a promising tone.
"Don't tell anyone about this," I say silently.
"Okay. But why do you want to hide your true self from everyone?" he intrigues and I so didn't like where this talk was going.
"Let's just not talk about it. I'm just happy after a long time," I say silently, but I knew that my thoughts were going back to how it used to be when everyone was there.
I shouldn't let Aiden close to me either. I don't want to push him away but what if something goes wrong. We reach home and I grab my bag and walk into my house while Aiden silently follows me.
"Why don't you have dinner with us Aiden?" Maria greets us and then questions Aiden with a bright smile before I leave them both to talk and get to my room. I really don't know whether this is good or bad.
