I woke up and I stared at the ceiling. I had cried myself to sleep last night wondering why nobody loved me. Dramatic,I know. Yes,there are people that love me,but I just broke down because I will probably never find true love. 

You know, roses and chocolates type of love. Get married,have children and turn old together type of love. Was it too much to ask for? 

When was the last time a man truly loved me?

 My lips formed a thin line as I started thinking about the last time a man 'loved' me. 

*Flashback*

It was the annual get togethers of all huge mafias and of course my cartel was also invited,being the biggest in the whole city,it would be a crime if we weren't invited. 

I stood amidst the glittering lights of the grand hall, my gold dress shimmering like a precious gemstone. The room was a sea of masks - a sea where everyone, including me, wore a mask to maintain anonymity. My own mask, designed to mimic a fox's face, was a striking piece - a symphony of black, white, and gold. It covered half of my face, revealing only my eyes, which shimmered like two verdant emeralds in the soft light.*

I was a real sight for sore eyes. People looked at me in either awe or jealousy. I felt confident and my confidence radiated across the room. 

The event had gone about for a while now and I would lie if I said that I hadn't helped myself to a few cocktails. 

I laughed and spoke with a group of other young people when all of a sudden I was tapped on my shoulder. 

I turned around and smiled. It was the host. 

"Hello,pretty lady" He said in a smooth voice. 

"Hello,sir. How are you this evening?" I asked with a smile. 

"Im doing quite okay" He said. "And I assume that you are having a good time?" I nodded. 

He took my hand and placed a kiss atop my hand.   Darren kissed my knuckles with a charming finesse, a subtle shiver traveled across my skin. His casual manner combined with the unexpected kiss left me feeling both intrigued and slightly off-balance. I studied his eyes, trying to discern if his gesture was merely a part of this elaborate masquerade or if there was a different intention behind his smooth demeanor.

He had beautiful eyes that could capture anyone who looked at them. They were icy blue eyes with specks of grey in them.

"What's your name?" He said as he let my hand go. 

"Artemis" I said,slightly blushing. 

"Artemis" He whispered my name softly. It made me get goosebumps all over my body.

"I'm Darren" He said. 

I might be in love or just tipsy, but I have more than one reason to not just fall into his arms. 

One,we just met. Two,I shouldn't be thinking about all that. Last but not least I need to go put my virgin ass down. I'm pretty sure he just wants some good sex and not a committed relationship. In conclusion, I shouldn't be entertaining this at all. 

I stopped scolding myself when Darren asked me a question. 

"Sorry, could you repeat your question?" I asked a little embarrassed. 

Darren chuckled. "I asked if you would want to dance with me"

"Oh,yes...sure" I said slightly shaking my head as if to shake my thoughts away.

"You seemed to be deep in thought" he said eyeing me up and down.

"Uh no it's nothing. Might've had too much to drink" I hastily say.

He chuckles and puts a hand out for me to take. I take his hand and he pulls me in close to him. His scent fills my nostrils. He smelled like a real man. A rich one at that. 

I could tell that it was an expensive cologne because of how strong it smelled. I can imagine that all his clothes smelled this way.

*Flashback ended*

I turned my head and looked at my alarm clock. That was set on my bedside table. 

Ugh,five AM. I need to get up.

I got up from my bed and took my top off as I walked to my bathroom. I tossed my top in my clothes hamper and processed to take off the rest of my clothes. 

I stepped into the shower and turned the water on. I sighed as the warm water flowed over my body. I closed my eyes and almost started relaxing when a notification popped into my brain. 

The mysterious hiring to kill Ghost.
