Hello Kristin! Asking the first question, when and how did you join Wattpad?

I joined Wattpad on a stumbled upon whim a few years back. I was a ninja reader for many months before working up the guts to post a story. 

What was the first book you ever wrote?

The first book I ever wrote was a picture book about my dog as a superhero, with me as the sidekick. We thwarted a pair of lily pad thieves to help out the local pond frogs. I was about five. My mother typed it up and I illustrated it.

Being a Wattys Winner for your book, The Marrow Charm, you really are a prolific author. What was the reason you began writing?

I've wanted to be a spinner of tales since I was a wee mite. There was that period of time I wanted to be a crocodile. I was very disappointed when I found out that wasn't a viable profession. 

Who are the people, who have inspired you to write so alluring plots?

My greatest muses are other artists. I read in many genres, I read anything that catches my interest. I love the dark and creepy (surprise, surprise). I owe a great deal to my mother, who planted that love of reading early.

How do you work upon creating the characters, their personalities and scenes in your books?

This is kind of an organic process for me. The character starts as a vague idea and as the story starts to unfold, their personality emerges as I write. I am very much a panster and my creations doubly so. I might have a couple quirks in mind starting out but I let them tell me who they are going to be. The same goes for scenes. I use a skeletal framework when I write and have a handful of scenes in mind. The rest form as I go. 

Which part of writing do you find the easiest? And what challenges you?

For me, the easiest part is the initial spark. I am an idea person. It is actually hard for me to concentrate on writing one story at a time because my mind is restless. On the other hand, I don't always have the time to juggle all those creations and some stories are not updated as often as I wish I could. 

Is there any project you're currently working on?

As I said, I am a bit of a juggler. I have a couple sequels in the works at the moment, including Blood Magic, the sequel to Marrow Charm. In honour of Halloween, my absolute favourite holiday, I started posting Stitch Girls, a horror romance with hints of Frankenstein, Splatterpunk, and Fantasy. 

Do you have any other talent beyond writing?

I am a fair hand at play dough sculptures. I can also balance a spoon on the end of my nose. While walking really fast :P

What is your most important goal in life? How do you seek to accomplish it?

I would love to eventually make a living from my writing. There are a lot of exciting opportunities happening on Wattpad that I am eager to see what happens and there are many avenues I am pursuing off Wattpad with that goal in mind. I have one self published novel and a couple anthologies now under my belt. It is a long, arduous process, and by far  a labour of love, but so is anything worth doing. 

Do you have any words of wisdom for other authors?

In regards to the world of Wattpad, and writing in general, KEEP WRITING. Reads take time, refining your craft takes a long time. You will hear criticism, take to heart what is useful and let the rest roll off you. You will get discouraged, abandon stories, feel like the end is never in sight, but keep writing. Write snippets and scenes, write sonnets and haikus. Anything to keep your love of writing alive. It's the best way I've found to manage the ups and downs of this crazy creative passion we all have.
