KaraMichelle of Breeders Nation
Hello everyone!
Today we have Kara and Michelle, the writers of Breeder Nation, with us. They're a team with many great accomplishments, including winning a Watty and being featured on Wattpad's science fiction list.
Warm regards, Kara and Michelle. Welcome to an official interview from The CRYPTIC. It's our honor to interact with inspiring writers like you. We hope that you'll have a great time.
First of all, tell us how you stumbled upon Wattpad and when.
When we started writing Breeder Nation, our sister/niece told us about Wattpad, and we decided to start putting our work on it and see what happened. Best. Decision. Ever!
Wow! So what do you think about THE CRYPTIC's theme? What are your views regarding dark fiction?
Honestly, it scares us a little. We've tried, but it's not quite our thing, not the REALLY dark stuff anyway. But we think the genre and the THE CRYPTIC's theme is badass, and give you guys major props for not being terrified of your own writing. Haha!
What do you like to read? Do you have a favourite genre or any specific likes?
Our favorite is Romance, for sure. Any story with a good romance within it, like ones surrounded in worlds of fantasy, sci-fi, adventure. :)
What compels you to pick up a pen and scribble down your thoughts? Do you have any inspiration or motivation?
Kara: Just so I don't forget ideas I have. One idea will stream into another, and into another, and before I know it, I'm seventeen ideas away, and I'll forget them if I don't write them down. Music is my inspiration, and Michelle, and my love for a good story.
Michelle: Awww, stop! You are my inspiration, too. Also, my kids, I want to show them what it's like to follow your wildest dreams and not give up on them. And what compels me to pick up a pen and scribble down my thoughts... Mom Brain! If I don't write ideas down, I WILL forget.
Being a writer, what's the easiest part of writing and which aspect do you consider the most challenging?
The easiest, and most fun, part of writing is definitely brainstorming, shooting ideas back and forth, and when they snowball into great ideas, gah! It's the best. The most challenging, EDITING. We hate it with a passion.
What kind of environment do you prefer to write in?
Kara: Well, after a shower, a thorough room cleaning, and some good music, I'm ready to roll.
Michelle: Well, I'm a mom of two littles, so if I find myself with some downtime, I better sit my ass down and get to it.
What's your first piece of writing, if you can remember? What thoughts does it bring to you when you look back at it?
Breeder Nation, for both of us, is our first attempts at writing, and when we look back on it and the journey of writing it, we just feel like... Holy shit, this was meant to be. We did that. We DID that. So cool.
Tell us about your growth as an author.
We feel that we grew as authors while writing Breeder Nation, and that also feels meant to be, because as our writing matured, so did our characters, and we think that can be felt even more now because of that.
Do you have a favorite author or book?
Kara: Beautiful Player, because it encompasses everything I love in a romance. And it was so damn funny, so on point. I also love the Maddox brothers books.
Michelle: I love Collen Hoover and Christina Lauren. Their books are ones I can pick up over and over again.
Besides writing, do you have any hidden talents?
Kara: Not murdering people on the daily when I want to. Is that a talent?
Michelle: I'm definitely an artsy person, crafty... and I can cook some really good food. ;)
You're sitting in front of a brand new aspiring writer, what do you say?
We say, keep writing, keep going, and don't give up. If it's something you're passionate about, you really won't be able to.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Don't be afraid to tell us something funny, we won't tell.
Kara: Legal activities?...
Michelle: LMAO! Free time? What is that? But really, I read...
Now, the most awaited question of every young reader, do you have any childish habits? Do you like cartoons or chocolates?
Kara: I take offense to chocolate being considered childish! There's nothing childish about dark chocolate.
Michelle: Dude, I'm a kid at heart. I color in coloring books, have dance parties on the daily, trampoline, play chubby bunny... the list goes on and on.
Do you prefer sweet or salty?
Kara: Sweet, for sure. Definitely sweet.
Michelle: Can I cheat and say sweet and salty, like movie popcorn with Raisinettes dumped on top?
It was nice talking to you. Thanks for your precious time. We really appreciate it and hope you'll prosper leaps and bounds.
Thanks! This was fun! We're so flattered you'd think we're interesting enough to interview. Best of luck to you all, as well! Have an awesome day. <3
