First of all, tell us how you stumbled upon Wattpad and when.
I first joined Wattpad in 2011, on the suggestion of my friend, the amazing Rebecca Sky.


Wow! So what do you think about THE CRYPTIC's theme? What are your views regarding dark fiction?
I'm both a writer and reader of dark fiction, so I do love it. I lean toward the "gothic victorian" side of things, because I love the esthetic. Think "Crimpson Peak".

What compels you to pick up a pen and scribble down your thoughts? Do you have any inspiration or motivation?
Mostly just that I can't STOP writing.

Being a writer, what's the easiest part of writing and which aspect do you consider the most challenging?
Sitting down to brainstorm plot, or writing out a rough draft is the most fun. It's the editing that comes later that I hate.

What's your first piece of writing, if you can remember? What thoughts does it bring to you when you look back at it?
I think I was ten or something, and my first attempt at the "great Canadian novel' was called "Charlie and the Cool Cats" about a gang of house cats who played hacky sack. I'm sure it's an allegory for something.

Tell us about your growth as an author.
Well I've definitely learned a lot over the past few years. One of them being the benefit of being completely stubborn in the face of rejection. Pushing through and learning from failure is what gets you places in the writing world. That and copious amounts of caffeine and chocolate.


Do you have a favorite author or book?
Neil Gaiman.
Besides writing, do you have any hidden talents?
I can bend the thumb on my left hand really far back because I sprained it as a kid, does that count? Just kidding, I actually hoop dance during the summer (and during the winter if I can get enough space to do it indoors without breaking the tv)


You're sitting in front of a brand new aspiring writer, what do you tell them?
Realize you're going to suck for the first little while. Embrace the suckage. And keep going no matter what anyone says.


What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Don't be afraid to tell us something funny, we won't tell.
I don't believe you. Okay funny, hmmm, well I make ridiculous vlogs about writing over on the YA Word Nerds vlog channel. I also collect tea pots.
