Chapter 22. I'll Spend an Eternity

Oh. My. Greedo. This is the final chapter.

I don't own anything.
========================================
Orson's P.O.V.

If anyone had told me ten months ago that I was going to become great friends with some of the Rebellion members, I would have laughed and probably classified them as insane.

Well, that's exactly what happened and I didn't regret one bit of it. I actually love having friends and the feeling of compassion towards others. All the years I spent loathing at everything that didn't happen my way made me blind and mute to other's feelings. I can't be grateful enough to Lyra and Galen for taking me in and restarting my life.

So here I am, nine months after I entered the Realm of Muertos and things are running smoothly between the Rogue One crew, Lyra, Galen and me. In those nine months, I noticed Cassian has fallen deeply in love with Bodhi. Heck, they even take the Markavipes to other planets to have picnics (because for some reason, Bodhi prefers picnics over fancy restaurants). The best part is how they assigned me the role of Third Wheel without my consent. It's more exciting than it sounds and I don't have a problem with it. I get to hear their little "first world problems." Bodhi is often worried that he might be too clingy to Cassian, and Cassian is fearful that he'll do something that will hurt Bodhi and make them break up. The two come up with the most bizarre reasons to why they haven't done something, or they're afraid to do. It's honestly hilarious to listen to their poor reasoning but I've never told them that.

But enough about Bodhi and Cassian right now. Let's talk about Chirrut and Baze. Actually, I don't have much information about Chirrut and Baze. After I came out of my coma, the two took off and no one has heard from them since. I'm not too worried, though. They know how to take care of themselves just fine. They're probably doing what Chirrut wanted; to spend the rest of their time in this realm together and in peace.

Lyra and Galen are back to their daily routine and have been housing some of former troopers until they can find a home of their own. Aside from that, Lyra has returned to taking care of the Markavipes, Allura and Amon, and her garden. Galen got his hands on some Kyber crystals and is returning to researching them without the fear of me trying to steal his knowledge again.

Malik and Ryln are Galaxy traveling, as far as I know. I think they might just want to find out what this realm has had to offer. Like Chirrut and Baze, I haven't seen them since the first week I came out of the coma, except I don't expect to hear from them ever again. They didn't strike me as the type that would return.

As for me, well, I have been spending my time exploring the Galaxy myself with Jyn. We ride Ryuk to exotic places and I discover that the Realm of Muertos is a beautiful compilation of star systems. Sure, it's different than the Realm of Viva but I think that's what makes it such a wonderful place to explore.

Currently, Jyn and I are at Bodhi, Cassian and K2's place. Apparently some of the form trooper troops helped Cassian, Bodhi and K2 rebuild a home where Bodhi's cottage used to be. As far as I can tell, Bodhi loves his new home to pieces.

Right now, Jyn with Bodhi, practicing Bodhi's coordination with his mechanical arm while I head down to the beach side, where Cassian is. Gumdrop is at his feet, her eyes half closed. I'm not sure where K2 is but I probably don't want to know.

I see Cassian has a knife of some sort in one hand and a small metal object in his other hand. Cassian glances over his shoulder and smiles at me. "What do you think?" He asks, holding up the metal.

I take it and examine carefully. It's quite beautiful. The metal may not be the shiniest, but the oceanic design he inscribed on it makes up for that. "It looks amazing," I compliment as I hand it back and reach down to stroke Gumdrop, who has dragged herself over to my feet.

Cassian looks doubtful. "What if Bodhi doesn't like it?" He turned the object over in his hand. "What if I do something wrong?"

I scoff. "Please, Cassian. I'm fairly sure you could give him a rock and he would be happy as a clam."

Cassian nods. "You're right. I'm overreacting." He uses the knife to clean out any nooks in the metal he's not happy with. The he pockets both objects and stands up, sighing. "Well... today's the day... " I can see sweat across his forehead.

I stand up after him and pat him on the shoulder. "You're going to do fine. Just be yourself."

Even though he's nervous, Cassian manages to say in a strong voice "Alright..." I smile and walk with Cassian to the cottage, where Bodhi and Jyn are sitting against the cottage having blue milk. K2 is with them, stacking some rocks on top of each other. Some training session that was.

Bodhi bounces to his feet at the sight of Cassian. "Cassian!" He shouts. Bodhi never calls Cassian by any nickname and it always used to intrigue me. I later found out that Bodhi loved the feeling of Cassian's name rolling over his tongue and he refused to alter that feeling in any way. In comparison, Cassian would call Bodhi cute nicknames that would make the pilot squeal excitedly.

Gumdrop barks, letting Bodhi know that she exists too. Bodhi bends down and rubs her vigorously. "Hello, Gummy! Who's a good girl? Who's a good girl, huh?" None of us can resist the temptation to smile at Bodhi and Gumdrop's relationship with each other. Even K2's eyes flickered with happiness.

Bodhi finishes pampering his dog and turns his attention back to Cassian. "Wanna have some blue milk?"

Cassian laughs. "Sure." I nudge him. The blue milk should be an award instead. "After I give you something..." Cassian quickly adds.

Jyn and K2 get up from their spots and walk over. I take Bodhi's blue milk from his hand and back away until I'm standing next to Jyn and K2 as Jyn calls Gumdrop over. "I have a feeling I know-" K2 begins but I cut him off by kicking his leg. It hurts my toes more than it hurts K2.

Bodhi is now standing directly in front of Cassian, whose becoming all flustered. Cassian reaches into his pocket and I can see Bodhi's face change into complete shock when Cassian says "Bodhi, you have been the most amazing person I have met in my entire life. I never thought I could find someone who makes me feel the way I do around you." Cassian pulls out the ring and drops on one knee. "Please, take my hand and take the spot by my side. And forever and ever, please take the Realm of Muertos and the Galaxy with me, too."

Bodhi doesn't move. A few seconds pass and Cassian, Jyn, K2 and I become worried. Then Bodhi starts sobbing. Cassian freaks out and starts trying to calm Bodhi down. "I didn't mean to upset you! I'm sorry!" Bodhi makes Cassian shut up by kissing him. Jyn, K2 and I did a three-way fist bump. Gumdrop barks excitedly and runs in circles around her owner's feet.

When the two lovers pull away, Bodhi has the ring on his mechanical hand. It shone brightly against his metal fingers, which he so carefully crafted. The ring highlights itself by reflecting the delicate rays of sun. To me, the scene was one of the most striking and emotional scenes I had ever experienced in my life. Unfortunately, I didn't cry and neither did Jyn. But K2 was spilling oil tears.

After the emotions died down, the four of us had blue milk, Gumdrop gnawed on a large bone, and K2 got some oil. Bodhi was already chatting excitedly about future plans. "I want to travel around, maybe even go to that planet Baze and Chirrut were on - Krysilos, right? - as our honeymoon. Also, I want to have two kids!" He says brightly. "And I want to name them Faren and Pio."

"What?!" Cassian cries. "I don't think I'm ready to have a kid, let alone two! And if we were to have two, I want to name one."

Bodhi shrugs. "Depends on how good of a kid named you are. But we must have two! Just imagine all the things we can do with them! They won't be lonely either because they have each other."

Cassian sighs. "What about naming one Carasshi? It kind of sounds like a blend of our names."

Jyn and I look at each other. Cassian probably needs to find a baby naming book, because that is a terrible name. K2 is not so quiet about it. "I find that name opaque and cringe-worthy. Why can you not name it something normal, like Riz, or Azer, or Sirux?"

Bodhi frowns. "I think Carasshi is an adorable name!" He says in Cassian's defense.

"I disagree. I think it is a bad name and so does Gumdrop." Gumdrop glances at K2 at the sound of her name.

The three get into a large argument over good names. Jyn and I sit back and enjoy the show. It's not often you see two fiancées and the "adopted droid child" argue over good names for not-existent children.
========================================
I'm sitting down at the beach, staring out across the still water as the setting sun reflected off the water, giving the sky a luscious orange gleam. The water races up and down the beach with each wave, sometimes rising high enough to reach my toes. Growing up and living in the Republic and Empire, you don't have the luxury of seeing nature's true beauty often. You are either confined behind walls or in such a polluted area it ruins the sun. I don't think I'll ever get used to seeing the sun set. The sight will probably continue to take my breath away for as long as I'm alive in this realm, which is probably forever.

I hear footsteps behind me. It's Jyn. She sits down next to me and watches the sunset as well. It's a long pause before anyone says anything and it's Jyn that breaks the ice.

"The sun is pretty, isn't it?"

"Indeed, it is," I respond.

Jyn looks at me and asks a more concerning question. "What do you think happened to Tarkin?"

Honestly, I don't know. Where do the dead go after they die again in the dead realm? But I'd rather not talk about it. Tarkin's been gone for a long time and at this point, the question doesn't bother me too much anymore. "I'm not sure. Perhaps there's another dead realm or he turned to dust."

Jyn nods. I can tell she has something else on her mind bow but she doesn't reveal. We remain silent until the last of the sun falls behind the ocean's surface. Now the horizon is a brilliant orange and the rest of the sky is light purplish color slowly working its way down to a deep blue the farther away the sky is from the sun. Try as I might, this view is ineffable and I can't wait to see what else this realm's natural beauty can offer.

It's then I feel something on the tips of my fingers. I look down to see Jyn's fingers lightly placed on top of mine. Perhaps she felt as though the sunset was romantic and since I was the closest person to her, she wanted to convey her feelings through her actions. Or perhaps it was that she was in love with me and instead of stopping her, I let her continue to fall. I'll admit, I find her to be a much closer friend than I ever expected to be with her.

I still wonder why she chose to love me. She had so many options, so many shots with other people; women and men who were better looking than me. So I ask. "Why did you fall in love with me?"

She pauses, taking a few moments to think about her answer. "Well... I think part of it is because of how grateful I am for you saving my life."

"Even though I saved your life, don't you think you should be with someone else a little... younger?"

"I know, I know. But if we can't die, then there's no one else I'd rather spend an eternity with."

I take a long time to process this. It's such a simple concept and yet I can't seem to wrap my head around it. "I never thought of it that way... "

"Plus, I'm a legal adult... " She adds. We smile at each other and for some reason, it leads to the two of us breaking out into laughter.

"Come on, let's go back. I'm sure Bodhi's going to be mad if we're late for dinner." I stand up and extended my hand out. She takes it and let's me tug her to her feet. I wrap my arm around her shoulders and pull her close against my side.

It's been a wild nine months. Nine months since I watched the explosion overtake my body. Nine months since I first learned that Galen and Lyra were willing to accept me as a friend again. Nine months since I set out to find Jyn in a quest that would erase the lines between the Rebellion and the Empire.

That was all nine months ago. The Realm of Muertos may seem unfair at first, but I realize that it's purpose was to teach a life lesson to its residents. A lesson that would create peace in the realm between all its residents.

Jyn and I have our arms wrapped around one another's waists as we stare across the ocean, which is as blue as the sky is. Nothing seems to exists around us. Nothing makes a sound except our rhythmic breathing. It's an exquisite and perfect moment that's frozen in time and I want it to remain that way forever.

The End
