Chapter 16. Son of a-

Time for a little PG-13 action. But hey, that's Star Wars for you.

I don't own anything.

Orson's P.O.V.

I have never seen a droid move so fast. Impy, I mean, K2, swings his arm and knocks me out of the way, his arm getting hit by the blaster shot while I'm tossed across the ground. "You slow humans," the droid scoffs and pulls out the pistol from the concealed compartment in his leg. He begins firing at Tarkin along with everyone else. Tarkin hides behind some impernatrable metal and calls for backup.

My heart drops when some of the wall panels twist to let stormtroopers in from the side. K2 and I duck behind a control panel and the others copy with different items around the room.

"Great," I mutter. "Just what we wanted. A hundred stormtroopers against nine of us."

"That may be so but you already forgot what Cassian said," said K2.

"Yeah, and what did he say?" I reach around the panel and shoot a few troopers.

"Make nine soldiers feel like ninety."

"I don't think those were the exact words..."

"Shut up if you want to live."

"I am the leader here! You should shut up."

"You are not getting anywhere by shouting and claiming you are the leader."

I sigh. K2 is right. He's also right when he peeks around the control panel and says "We've gotta shut those doors or we're going to be overwhelmed. I can override the controls and do that."

"I'll cover you." I don't hesitate and shoot as many of the stormtroopers as I can while K2 begins working on sealing the area off. Cassian and Bodhi cover K2 as well by taking out stormtroopers with their staffs. Baze and Chirrut are dealing with the ones coming from down the hall. I'm not sure where Lyra, Malik or Rlyn are.

The troopers aren't using the pellet shots. They're using the normal electro shots. Some of the shots hit me but they don't hurt as badly as the physical world's electro shots. This only motivates me to shoot the troopers faster.

However, I seem to have forgotten the basic rule in the Realm of the Muertos. You can't die. The stormtroopers that I have hit are back up and swamping us again.

My blaster is shot from my hand just as K2 hacks through the base programming and shuts the walls. The stormtroopers have stopped coming in but that doesn't really change anything. Not yet, at least. I pick up my blaster and reload it. I wish I had my staff to take out the stormtroopers closet to me and use less of my limited charges. Ryln had my staff so she could bring it in and I wouldn't look suspicious when I confronted the Empire. K2 is shooting at the troopers now and the situation is starting to look hopeless. Then I notice Tarkin behind the cloud of stormtroopers. He's doing something to the portal. I can't see what but it's probably not good.

Someone shoots my chest and knocks the wind out of me. I flop down behind the control panel to catch my breath. I see Lyra sniping from one of the roof rafters. "Lyra, what's Tarkin doing?" I ask through the coms.

Lyra pauses her shooting to take a look. I see her eyes widen. "He's opening the portal!" Great. I have to get to Tarkin and shut off that portal!

Cassian knocks some stormtroopers down and sits next to me. He has an extra staff on his back and I ask him where he got it. Maybe I could use it. "Ryln and Malik are overwhelmed with the stormtroopers coming in from behind," he said as he slips it off. "Ryln told me to give you your staff." I smile and take it. Finally! I could knock out some troopers and save my limited ammo.

Tarkin fires up the portal and a purple vortex thing fills the center of the metal circle. From the way the portal operates, I can tell that Galen was the one who built it. He was probably forced to do so similarly to the way I made him build the Death Star. Speaking of Galen, he looks horrified from where he's handcuffed.

I stand up. The wind from the portal is quite strong and light objects are dragged into the portal. Tarkin barks orders to some stormtroopers to prepare to enter the portal. "With this realm's immortality, we shall conquer the galaxy in the living realm!"

Chirrut and Baze enter the large room and Chirrut looks angry. "They're going against this realm's forces!" He shouts.

"Lemme guess, it's one of those situations where both realms will explode if we don't shut the rift," I call back. Chirrut nods. That only makes the reason to shut down the portal even stronger.

My eyes catch on to something that makes me forget I'm in the middle of a battle. It's a small object, yet it's shape and size seem so familiar. I squint until I can make out the shape of the object.

Jyn Erso.

I stare at the thin and sickly looking Jyn Erso. I can't tell if she's alive or dead. It's so strange to see her this way. She had been so strong and confident when we last confronted each other. Behind her, a small portion of the dark void gives way to some light. I can see a beach... and a tower... Scarif?

Suddenly, I understand Galen's clue.

I reach over and break off a sharp piece of metal. "I'm going in," I said to Cassian.

Cassian looks at me like I'm an idiot. "Are you kidding me?!"

"Well, someone has to free her!" I snap.

The captain sighs and smiles a little. "You never fail to surprise me. I'll cover you and make sure the portal stays open until you return. May the Force be with you."

"Thanks. By the way, you're in command now." I strap my staff to my back and replace my blaster to my hip. Then, I squeeze the Kyber Crystal quickly as good luck. I rush forwards, dodging as many of the blaster shots I could. I was hit a few times but I didn't stop running.

Tarkin sees me coming. He fires at me and it's not electro shots. It's the pellet bullets. I manage to dodge them, which surprised both of us. As I pass by him, I swing the sharp piece of metal and slice him across the back of the head. At the same time, he yanks out an electro knife and nicks my collar bone. We both fall to the ground, groaning.

I reach up and touch the wound. When I draw my hand away, I see blood. I slowly get to my feet and that's when I see something terrible.

The Kyber Crystal necklace lays meters away from me, broken.

Without it, how could I prove to Jyn that I wasn't going to harm her? But I can't go back and retrieve it. Tarkin had seen it and crushed it with the palm of his hand. With great reluctance, I keep going and leap into the portal.

Immediately, I'm thrown through the air like a rag doll. For some reason, I refuse to let go of the metal piece, though the sharp edges are digging into my hand. I can hear screams of people that I've killed and it takes all my mental strength to stay sane. I stop tumbling when I hit something. It's one of the giant mites Cassian talked about. I use the metal piece to break its jaws off before it gets me and then I push off its body to propel myself to Jyn.

I reach Jyn's body and carefully wrap my arm around it. She's frail, and it feels like her body would snap under the weight of a twig. Whatever she had gone through must have been hell.

More more mite things are heading our way. When they get close enough, I kill as many as I can, or at least knock them out. I don't know if I can kill them. Luck is on my side and I kill the notes and reach the portal that leads to the Realm of Viva. Then I jump in.

I can't describe the burning I felt in my body as Jyn and I fell through the second portal. But I forget the pain when something tears Jyn from my arm. I don't remember much else that happened except that there was a flash of bright blue. I hit the ground incredibly hard and black out.

Cassian's P.O.V.

The last thing I would expect from a former Imperial officer is for them to jump into a portal. Unfortunately, Tarkin cut the Kyber crystal right in half and Orson lost his ticket to winning Jyn's trust easily. Orson doesn't go back for the necklace, which was probably a smart idea.

It's been nearly three minutes since Orson left and things are not looking good for my team. We're all battered and beaten and about ready to die. I knock out more stormtroopers then fire at Tarkin. I hit his protruding forehead but, Muertos logic, Tarkin doesn't get his brains blasted out.

Bodhi runs over to me. "Cassian! I got a pack of the pellets!" He shows me the pellets.

"Load your gun and kill Tarkin!" I snap. Bodhi does so as quickly as he can but it's not quick enough. Tarkin notices he has the special bullets. I stand in front of Bodhi to provide him some protection. I'd rather die and have Bodhi kill Tarkin than live and Bodhi dies.

Tarkin fires upwards and shoots Lyra. Lyra falls from the rafters, knocking her out, and causing Galen to go insane. Tarkin smacks Galen across the face with the butt of his pistol. This situation just couldn't get any better. Baze, Malik and Ryln were overwhelmed, K2 was barely functional from all the hits he received. Chirrut was exhausted from fighting both physically and mentally.

Bodhi cocks the gun and nods to me. I duck so he has a clean shot. "Take this, you son of a-"

BAM! I'm hit in the head with Bodhi's gun as it falls from his hand. Bodhi staggers backwards and collapses to the ground, a small pellet stuck in his shoulder. I look up. I see Tarkin with his own pistol raised. That bastard!

ARGH I'm so sorry I hurt both Bodhi and Orson!
