The Big Ugly
A few months ago I switched out my 100 channel satellite antenna for a regular antenna with just a few regular channels. During that time I also turned off my WiFi at home because I live in the middle of nowhere and it cost way too much for too little unreliable data. As a result I rarely get to see national or world news and rarely even catch the local news channel.
I had no idea how good doing this would make me feel. I have watched the news every day of my life for what seems like forever. I read newspapers and watched out for online alerts on my phone for breaking news. I did that every day until recently. I started writing more and concentrating on things other than what was going on in the world. It felt good.
But you can't get away from the world. It will find you and try and squeeze the humanity out of you every chance it gets. It's a fight to stay sane if you try keep up with the world.
It's ugly out there. People shooting up movie theaters, cops hating on people, people hating on cops, mass graves popping up every where, people not knowing if they are men or women, those ISIS and cartel bastards shooting up and beheading people, banks taking advantage of those who can least afford it, politicians lying their asses off, and no one seems to care sometimes.
It wasn't always this ugly. It is getting uglier every day. The list of things that people are willing to do to each other just because they can is always increasing. People don't seem to believe in rules anymore. They think that they are free to do what they want no matter what that freedom costs someone else. I am so sick of those people that think they can just trample over others on their way to getting what they want.
There is evil in this world. Anyone who tells you different hasn't been around long enough or stuck around with their head in the sand. Evil can be beaten, but not without the risk of awakening the same evil in ourselves. That is the trick that no one can seem to get away with.
But that is the world we live in. That is the world our children and grandchildren are being born into. To them it is not ugly, it is normal. And that should scare us. That is a big and ugly truth.
I think we need to talk about these things no matter how uncomfortable they are. Get out of your comfort zone and join me for a while. You can always block me later.
P.S. I would love this series to be as interactive as possible. If you have an opinion you would like to share or want me to write about a certain issue than let me know. My first rant will be about police shootings. You are not going to like it.
