7: General
We all groaned when we heard General yelling at us. That's the name we agreed on last night. We had to look around the old base just for the place we could stay. We had found a place with only two beds in it. It just had to be abandoned, didn't it? It ended up being Peter, Ray, and Winston huddled up on one bed while Egon and I shared the other one. When you're the only female you get to pick your bed mate first. Don't know about the rest of you, but I would rather sleep on the bed with my brother than the other three.
We got up and looked at each other. We did have a plan to keep us all from being his personal army for the rest of our eternal lives. We stood up, walking out of the building to see the ghost waiting. He had a table set up with food that looked twenty years old. We looked at each other and than the General.
"Eat up boys, we are going to be having a long day!"
We sighed, eating the food. It was blend with no flavor to it what so ever. I wasn't even sure what I was eating anymore. It might have been eggs. Or maybe bacon. I don't know. It wasn't important. After we had our stomachs full General started barking orders. We were supposed to run a mile. He decided to run with us.
I ran right next to him, never losing him. I knew how to run. I didn't usually run around but I did go on jogs everyday. Went out for an hour and usually got a good three miles in on a low day. Plus I ran away from ghost everyday has well. I was able to run fast and not too hard. Once the mile was up I placed my hands over my head. I took a deep breath. It was an easy run but I didn't want to over work myself. I looked up and saw the guys trying to catch up. I will say they were pretty fast. Winston was only a few minutes being me. Than came Peter six minutes after him with Ray close behind. Egon came last with five minutes behind. We were close in time which made me happy.
"Good job," the ghost told us. "Now you four since you came last are still in the running. Once you all pass one test than you are safe. This tough has nails boy is going to be fine."
"Still a girl," I told him.
"Now you four, come with me!"
I watched them walk off, following them. I did have to see what was up. It would be great. I watched them do jumping jacks, push-ups, more laps, everything you can see. One by one over the day Peter, Ray, and Winston all became safe. We usually helped the others out, doing it with them to show how it was done. I think it helped a bit seeing me do it. After all I think I was the favorite one.
That left Egon.
Now my brother is great at a lot of things. He can tell you what type of ghost you are looking at. He can tell you the chemical name for anything. He knows the name of a couple hundred different fungus and molds. He is the sweetest person you can find. But he is not the most physically active person. He can run pretty fast. He can lift heavy things. He isn't weak he just isn't really good at doing set in stone exercises like push-ups and jumping jacks.
This made the General mad. He wanted us all to be perfect soldiers. Without Egon on board than we weren't all doing so. We could tell he was getting pretty peeved off.
"You may look like that boy but you sure don't act like him! You aren't tough at all!"
"Egon is too tough!" Ray told him.
"And I'm still a girl," I told him, knowing Ray had my first worry off.
"Quiet! Tomorrow you are going to do a little test. Have twenty minutes. If you don't get it done than you boys are trapped here forever. Off you all go!" With that he disappear.
We walked back to the beds. Egon sat down, sighing a bit. I sat next to him and Ray sat on the other side of him. It was an annoying situation. Egon was doing pretty good for what I have seen! He had no right to judge my brother like that.
"This stinks," Peter grumbled. "How are we getting out of this one?"
"I think we just need a plan," Ray said.
"How about some late night training?" Winston asked.
"Wouldn't hurt," Egon told them, standing up.
We spent what felt like days trying to get Egon into the man who could pass this test. No matter what we did he couldn't do it all in twenty minutes or less. He was close but not there. The only person who could do it was me.
That was when I was starting to get an idea. I watched Egon the whole time he was doing the course that we had set up for him. Well Egon could easily improve. I would need something extra if I was going to get this to work, but I have done this before. It shouldn't take much work. Maybe a little cut here, smooth out here, yeah, that would work. Maybe find a hat and it would be perfect. Just have to get the small details right. Yeah, I could do this.
"This is hopeless," Peter groaned. "None of us but Natalie can do this!"
"Actually Egon can," I told them.
"What? How?"
"Just trust me. Now come here and let me explain it."
