Rat squeaking human speaking
Art by me, it's kinda trash, but I'm somewhat proud of it

That midnight, Bandage refused to let Six go back to her make shift den in the hollow of the tree. When they arrived to it, he carefully sniffed the ground around the strange rock with a glass eye, before giving a small, but ferocious growl.
"What's wrong?" She asked, noticing his sudden change of behavior. From her short time with Bandage, she had gotten a sense of what was somewhat normal with the small pup.
He was quiet and sometimes happy, always observing his surroundings, ready to run or attack anything that came out from the bushes. He didn't seem afraid to take on the strange rats that lived in the forest after she saw him attack Blueberry to protect the green furred pup. Or maybe that was just a quick stupid decision on his part.
Bandage limped into her den, paw still hurting from his fight with Blueberry, coming to and tearing her nest to peices, ripping it apart and littering it across the old fox den. Six tried to stop him, but he had already done his damage, moss and grass strewn all along the floor.
"What are you doing!" She snapped at him, only to see him look over his shoulder to the strange stone again. His lips were in a tight line, like a frown almost, timidly looking at the strange stone.
"Static Stones bad, not safe, Bandage helping," he muttered. Six looked to the brown rock, remembering what had happened just the other night with the buzzing. So they were called Static Stones, makes sense now she guessed, but why was he doing all of this?
"By destroying my nest?" Six asked, glaring at him as he passed by her.
Bandage started to limp off, calling her over with a small bark noise. Reluctantly, Six came to his side, looking one last time to the Static Stone. He started to lead her through bushes and foliage, careful as they stepped on twigs and leaves, sometimes stopping to look around if they heard something. In what seemed like forever, they finally came to a small cliff side.
Large wolves laid on the ground sound asleep, some stood up on guard, moonlight blocking their figures out as they guarded the dens. Upon the two's arrival, a male, who was previously dozing off, stood at attention, tail rising as his ears perked up.
He came over, growling as he noticed Six with the other, fur bristling as he approached. Bandage froze beside her, before giving a small growl back.
Six, unsure as to what the two were saying, watched as they shared growled and small barks, along with a few body languages she was unfamiliar with. The wolf was far larger than them, his reddish colored pelt looking tan under the moonlight.
His face was lighter in color, with dark amber eyes that almost looked red in the dim lighting. His teeth were bared as he gave a small snarl, but didn't go to attack them. Instead, he watched them with narrowed eyes, his tail lightly swishing behind him, judging them it seemed like.
Feeling intimidated as she seemed to stared death in its eyes, Bandage looked over, closer to her side, before reaching over, resting his chin on Six's shoulder, giving another growl as a final word to the other.
The wolf rose his head, before giving a snort, turning, kicking up dust behind him as he walked away from them, slipping into a den near the base of the cliff. Bandage withdrew from resting his chin on her, attention turned back to whatever he was doing before.
"Don't speak, stay close," he whispered to her. Six didn't think she could make a noise if she tried, forcing herself to give a nod as she tried to shake the haunting look from the wolf's stare.
His eyes were so dark, like dark pairs of rubies. For a moment, all Six could picture was Frost's blood color gaze staring into her. The only different those was that Frost aimed to kill her and the wolf was just questioning it seemed like.
Bandage began making his way to the side of the cliff, Six following short behind him in fear of getting lost. No other wolves paid them any attention, except for the few who stood on guard.
Silently, the two feral children entered a small dug out den, Bandage's scent lingering in the air, signaling that it was most likely his den of some sorts. It was small, with soft moss and feathers laying in his nest, roots and uneven dirt walls making the surroundings of it.
Six could barely see Bandage's figure in the darkness, but she would see his outline as he scratched against the back wall of the den, digging away packed dirt.
"Six friends with monsters?" He asked, looking over his shoulder to her, his tone questioning, as though trying to make sure of something before he continued with what he was trying to do.
What was he planning to do though? He already knew the answer to the question, he'd seen her with Blueberry before anyways. A tiny bit confused by the question, Six nodded, sitting down on her haunches as Bandage turned, returning back to his digging.
Six's eyes stained in the darkness as she looked around, she could barely see her paw in front of her muzzle, and could barely see Bandage's white feather in his fur. Without much thought, she brought out Blueberry's silver firebox, opening it with her teeth, running a paw pad over the small wheel.
With a few flickes, it came on, startling Bandage, who jumped at the sudden brightness. He dropped down, giving a small whimper as he saw the flame. Six held the silver firebox in her paws, looking to the other with a bit of confusion at his sudden action.
Bandage backed away, his head low as his pointed his muzzle to the firebox, noticing the change of brightness from under his wrappings.
"Fire," he squeaked quietly.
Six gave a nod. "Yeah. It's okay though, this one doesn't destroy things like the other fire, I have it under control, see?" She held the silver box out for him to look at.
Bandage gave a quick answer. "Not take wrappings off," he stated firmly. Six gently blinked her eyes, a thought suddenly coming to her.
"Why do you wear that?" She asked. Bandage gave a small whine.
"Keep Static Monster away, no see, you safe," he explained. Static Monster? Six wanted to ask, but didn't want to push on, not wanting to get him upset.
"Well, Static Monster isn't here. We're safe, why don't you take it off? At least for a second," Six suggested. Bandage gave a small growl, digging his claws into the dirt under him, as though holding himself back from barking at her.
He slowly stopped, but he still looked tense. After a few heartbeats, he slowly rose a paw. Six watched as he slowly lifted the wrapping up slightly, his eyes closed shut as he nervously took the protective fabric off.
Bandage had soft cheeks, small scars on them from his time in the Wilderness. Slowly, he opened his eyes, Six meeting a pair of light blue-green shiny orbs. Pale baby blue outline his dark pupils, while lime green ringed around them, flecks even speckling inside of the blue.
Six was oddly surprised by them, she had never seem another creature's eyes that color before. But, despite how slowly he opened them, she was only giving a few seconds to actually see them, before he scrambled to get the wrapping back around them.
"Bandage sorry, eyes not good with light," he said quietly, paws smoothing out the wrappings. Six didn't speak for a moment, looking at the pup with a small, slightly hurt gaze.
Fear was what seemed to control him now that she thoughts about it. He was scared when he met her, scared when she showed Blueberry to him, scared of the giant fire. Was the outside world that bad, to the point the only thing you learn to live by is by being scared of everything? That... that's wasn't living.
Now, his eyes were bad because of fear of using them and see this Static Monster thing. Now that she thought about it, what was that thing? Maybe that's what she heard, when the Static Stone started to go crazy, but by the way Bandage briefly talked about it, it didn't seem to match. Or, maybe it did?
The pup quickly got back to work at digged against the wall. With the new light, Six could see what he was digging for.
Slowly, Bandage dug out a small box, and after digging most of it out, took the handle into his mouth and pulled on it with his teeth.
It was wooden, nothing too fancy on it besides a carving of an eye on the lid. Bandage bent down, nudging it out with his nose and rose the lid.
Dust and dirt fell as it opened, the firebox brighting the contents inside to be seen. Inside were books, letters on the front of it. Six couldn't read it, but they looked familiar to the letters on the table in Blueberry's den.
Bandage sat down, looking into the box. "Human monsters run off Bandage before he show these to them. Found while exploring near river, look important, so kept hidden. You friends with humans monsters, they hear to you," he tried to explain, trying his best even with how broken his squeaking was.
Six took a book out, brown eyes looking over the character carved into them. The leather of it was damaged and brittle, but still held it tightly together.
"I can take these to Blueberry, he might be able to use these. Could you help me carry these too him?" Six asked, looking to the other feral. Bandage looked confused, tilting his head like a confused pup, trying to figure out what she was saying.
He gave a quick shake of the head. "Bandage not go, human monsters kill him if go. Human monsters no like Bandage..." he said. The rat in the raincoat gave him a solemn look, brown eyes rounding, before nodding her head.
"Alright then... I'll try to be back before long, could you meet me by the territory edge, near the fox den? I don't think the wolves will be too kind if I barged it without someone," she explained to him. The pup looked up towards her, nodding her head, giving a small nod.
Just as Six went to turn, Bandage rushed forward, coming to the other. Six turned to look at him, seeing the old bandages on the other's face a few inches from her face.
Bandage reached forward, pressing his nose to her cheek. "Rat sis be safe?"
Six looked at feral, eyes widen with confusion. "Sis? You mean, Six, right?"
Bandage tilted his head, before shaking his head. "Oh, squeaking tricky, Bandage sorry," he said quickly.
The older feral smiled, despite the worried look at the other. "It's okay. But, yeah, I'll be okay. Don't worry, Blueberry won't let the others hurt me. I'll see you tomorrow, Bandage."
Closing the lid to the firebox, the rat child left the den, Bandage watching her leave out of the wolf den, Six feeling all the stares of the canines gave her as she walked out.
~~~
Seven groaned as he woke up, his body feeling wrecked and beat to shreds, his legs and arms burning as he started to move around.
"Easy, Sev, you'll open your stitches,"
Seven opened his eyes, finding himself on his dug out bed, Rain sitting next to him in a small wooden chair she had gotten from his desk. She had a small wet rag in her hand, a small bowl of water resting in her lap.
What the hell happened? He tried to sit up, slowly getting to where he could prop himself up on the dirt wall, flinching as his shoulder pinged with pain as he put pressure on it.
The oil lamp was on, giving them light, but even with the light, Seven's vision seemed a lot darker than usual. Rain placed the bowl and rag down on the ground next to her, facing her brother with a tender look.
"You and Five were attacked by a feral child, you were able to fight her off, but..." Seven felt Rain's eyes travel down his disheveled looks, looking over bandages and poorly rushed stitches on some of his wounds. His jacket laid neatly folded to the side, his chest and frame being seen, thin and weak from his two years of malnutrition on The Maw, burns dotting him.
Bandages were wrapped around his chest, slightly turning pink towards the top. At least that explained why his breathing felt tight. He looked to Rain, who had a look of hurt and worry on her face.
"Rain, I-"
Before Seven could begin to speak, he started to cough, black liquid from earlier spraying on the blanket that rested over his legs and feet.
Rain's concern grew worse, reaching a hand out to rest on top of her brother's shoulder, only for him to pull away. After a moment, his coughing finally eased, Seven slumping against the wall.
He looked over to Rain, before averting his gaze as he saw how terrified she was. "Rain... a feral kid --or whatever the hell this place calls them-- didn't attack us... I- recently these things- there's this-" Say it! Just say it, why was this so hard to say!
"I attacked Five. A kid didn't attack us, or at least I don't remember. I don't exactly have control over my spells, and..."
Rain looked at his with confusion and fear, her hand wanting to reach out and comfort; but was left hovering in uncertainty. "What?" She muttered quietly.
Seven gave a soft sigh, resting his head in his hand. "I... I don't know what happened. It happened maybe a week after I was caught on that God forsaken ship. I have these... hunger spells. I lose control of myself and blindly attack things. I can't control it, I've tried so hard in the past to, but I still can't do anything about it," he said, trying and hoping it was making sense to her.
Rain stayed quiet, a silent urge for him to continue. Seven took a few heartbeats to gather the words he wanted to say.
"I don't know if he just came with them or not, but... there's this... shadow thing, like a copy of me, but he's like everything I hate about myself. He calls himself Arcane, and I know you probably think I'm crazy, but I'm not, I swear! I didn't want to try and hurt Five, or anyone. I'm a jackass, yeah, but I'm a jackass with at least half a heart."
Rain put her hand down, thinking over what she had just been told. Seven felt like explaining Arcane probably wasn't the best idea, but he knew Rain could at least be trusted with the knowledge of the shadow's existence.
Finally she spoke up, barely a whisper, "... Seven, what happened that night?"
Seven looked up at her, seeing her hold her clinched fist in her lap, subconsciously running her fingers over her knuckles in a sense of self comfort.
That night? What-
Oh... that night.
As he remembered, the familiar anger he had seemed to rekindle in his veins. The night he was thrown into The Maw.
"Did... did I make you so angry, you ran off?" Rain asked. Seven snapped out of his angry thoughts, hearing his sister's voice suddenly crack.
He looked to her, seeing a small tear begin to roll down her cheek. "That night... you tried to tell me something was wrong, but I was too focus on getting to the beach to pay you any attention. I was too caught up in my stupid role here and you stormed off, only to later be told you died..."
Rain held back her tears as much as possible, but they began to trickle down soon after. "I blamed myself for a long time after you left. Eerie even gave me the option to discontinue my Oracle status so I couldn't screw up again because of it. If I had just listened to you, maybe you wouldn't have gotten caught and became cursed with those hunger spells."
Rain started to break down soon after, wrapping her arms around her in a self hug. Seven gave her a gentle look, reaching out a resting a hand on her arm.
"Rain, it wasn't your fault. You had nothing to do with it... he did," he whispered the last part under his breath, hand clenching slightly as he forced himself to still.
Rain looked up, eyes and cheeks turning pink, slightly shaking as she tried to collect herself. "So... so what happened?"
Seven stayed silent. He couldn't tell her, yes, she was his sister, better yet his own twin, but he didn't feel comfortable telling her what happened. If anything, he never wanted to tell her.
"..."
They stopped as they heard scratching overhead of them. Their eyes looked towards the skylight in the corner of the room, small bits of dirt falling from it. Faint squeaking could be heard from the outside.
"Squeaks?" He mumbled. Rain looked to him, before getting up, grabbing onto the pulley root, the skylight opening.
Moonlight poured in, before a bright yellow figure dropped in, landing on all fours, happily squeaking as she came to them, a book in her mouth.
"Squeaks, what the hell are you doing here?" Seven asked, barely squeezing the words out as the feral jumped onto his bed, immediately tackling him into what was her version of a hug.
"Squea! Squeak squeak, sque," she chattered on, dropping the book she had in her mouth.
Seven looked at it, but turned his attention back to Squeaks, who happily grinned at him, before noticing his bandages around his chest. She sniffed them, but was pushed away by Seven, who instead caught her attention with a head scratch.
"Yeah, yeah, I missed you too, you rat. What cha got?" He said, taking the book from her mouth, looking at the front. Seven's eyes widen as he looked at the words, immediately opening to the first page.
"Rain," Seven said in a flat tone. Rain looked over, not nearing due to Squeaks' previous show of possessiveness over her brother.
"Yes?"
"This... this is Un's diary! Where the hell did you find this?" He half turned his attention to Squeaks, who looked at the paper curiously.
The handwriting was neat, though the ink was smudged and damaged, Seven could read most of it.
'Somtimes I wonder how me and Ten are brothers, he's such an airhead, speaking to himself along the beach or when he things he's alone. Just the other day I found him speaking with someone called... Bee-- Beetle juice? I don't even think that's a name'
This was for certain once belonged by Un.
'Recently the television sets around here have been going crazy. Cini has recently been experimenting with them to see why they are acting the way they are, and for some reason was even able to travel through the screen! I tried it next, but I wasn't able to. I don't know what she did, but I think we just found a way to enter and exit the city without a lot of trouble following us'
Rain's slightly puffy eyes lit up as she too read over the words. "That sounds like Mono..." Seven nodded in agreement.
He flipped ahead, before stopping on a page, eyes staring at the sheet. In heavy, dark writing, sentences were written over and over on the paper.
Don't trust the TVs
She tried to kill us
Transmission leads to corruption
Don't travel through TVs
Seven couldn't help but feel his throat dry.
This explained everything.
