Six and Blueberry were climbing up the staircase, the other strange rat grumbling under his breath as she walked by his side.

Was all of her kind like this? Or was Blueberry just being Blueberry?

"Turn away for five damn minutes..."

Six didn't pay him any mind, guessing he was getting frustrated at how long the stair case was. She didn't blame him, this thing kept leading up and up and up some more.

Trinket would have raced her to the top, helping pass the time. She smiled at the thought, before it fell as her mind started to wonder off.

Was mom and aunt Violet worried about her? Was the colony worried or happy she was gone for so long? Her pace slowed slightly, her head lowering a bit.

Despite her happy attitude, Six knew the colony didn't fully accept her. She was weird, she didn't look like a rat at all. When she was a pup, she constantly relied on Marigold and her brother to keep her warm, still did on some nights.

Marigold must be worried sick, she normally was when it came to her. Grandpa and grandma might be upset too. She didn't know how long she was gone, maybe a day or more? She didn't know how long they had slept before, which only added to the problem.

"I need to get back home and soon... Blueberry, where are you gonna go when we get out? Do you have a colony to go home to?"

He didn't answer like usual, continuing up the stairs.

"What about a family? A mom and dad? What about brothers and sisters?"

Still nothing.

"It's been me and my mom for a long time, I never met my dad but she always told good things about him. I was supposed to have other siblings too, but they died when I was little, so it's just me and my adopted brother, he... he doesn't really like me thought..."

Six jumped over a broken board in the staircase.

"I have a few cousins though. Trinket is my younger cousin, and she's like a sister to me. When we were a lot younger, we would sneak out to look outside the colony's camp, and normally get into all sorts of trouble,"

Blueberry growled a bit, making her look up at him.

Why was Squeaks soooo much louder then usual? Was she telling him off in whatever the hell kinda language she was speaking?

"Killing her doesn't seem like such a bad idea now..." he groaned. He suspected he was going to get hungry soon, it had been a while since he last ate.

They came to the end at last, looking out of the vent covering just above their heads. He pushed it open, watching Squeaks jump and hold it open for him with the lid of the vent rested in her jaws.

He got out, noticing a few rats running off. Squeaks turned frantic all of a sudden, about to run after the rodents. A wide smile took over her face as she scurried to catch them.

Seven gave a groan, not even bothering to call her back. He had to stay focused. He had to get out of here and settle a score once and for all. A smirk tugged at his lips, ideas of how to get back at that stupid, no good, son of a-

Seven was brought back into reality as he noticed something in the shadows. At first he thought they were leeches scuttling in the darkness. The sound of bones popping didn't help his nerves.

The Janitor.

Head of the Nursery department, in charge of taking care of the lower Maw and watching the children. He must be on a patrol. Seven watched as the man felt around, a blank and calm expression on his face as the short legged, long armed man ran his bony fingers over different objects, his eyes useless under the flap of skin over them.

Squeaks brushed against his hand, making him jump slightly, the wooden boards creaking. The Janitor perked up at the noise, staring at them as his fingers brushed against ground to find the source of the noise.

"Is someone there? Don't worry, you'll be fine, I won't bite," he said, voice rusty from age and little use.

The two didn't speak, Seven's eyes glued to the man's covered one. He always said he won't bite, never that he doesn't bite. He was a monster, monsters were never made to be trusted. Just like he was.

"Runaway, if that is you, speak now."

Seven didn't flinch at the nickname. He had no reason to speak to him. If he learned it was him, all he would do was force another muzzle on him so he couldn't attack the other kids.

He remembered how his nose would be rubbed raw and bleed from the metal rubbing against his skin. He could barely get food between the bars, and that monster always held the key. It's a wonder how he never starved to death because of that stupid thing.

One day, his revenge would be sweet and he would savor every moment of it. He'll make them beg for mercy for what they did to him. He'll destroy this place and burn everyone as he made his way to the Mainland. After he was done there, the City would be next.

Eventually, the Janitor turned away, mumbling under his breath a few unheard words. He stumbled out of the run, guiding himself by touching the walls and floor.

They stayed quiet for a few more minutes, eventually Seven sighed, stuffing his hands back in his jacket pockets. "It's cold down here... let's go before we freeze to death."

Six watched Blueberry begin to walk off, the thought of the monster still in her head. Who or what was that? He spoke to them; but it seemed like growls and groans when she listened. Blueberry seemed to understand him though, which confused her.

Was that another one of their kind? He seemed far too big to be a rat, maybe he was another species of them? No, that seemed too weird.

She walked by his side, occasionally looking up to him. His eyes looked dull under his bangs, like he was deep in his thoughts on something.

"Blue?"

"Squeak?"

Seven didn't pay her any mind as they progressed farther (and hopefully upwards) in the Maw. If what the kids in the Nursery said was true, Nomes lived somewhere up ahead. They were helpful creatures; but don't let their cute and charming was fool you, they would do anything to get their way or to have a good laugh.

The Hideaway, as many kids call it, was where he had to go next to get out of here; that's where the Nomes hid at. The old song the eldest kids sang crept back into his head, replaying over and over like a broken record.

"So small, so meek, so wicked, so sly, watch out for Nomes as they run by.

Swift and fast, they'll make you trip, down into a bottomless pit.

In the Engine, smudged by coal, that is where the Nomes call home.

Up and up on the black box, watch out for the lady and her fox."

They just had to watch out for Nomes and follow them, piece of cake. The dumb things were everywhere back in the prison area.

The sound of scuttling made him look to the right of him. There's one right now. The small Nome was barely waist high to him with its weird cone-mushroom head, chattering as it looked around for something.

"No, no, not there, gah! Where did I put it?"

Squeaks suddenly stopped walking beside him, he noticed. He didn't pay her much mind, before sudden sharp pain in his wrist. He let out a small string of curses, going to take his hand from whatever had bit him. He looked down with a look of anger, seeing Squeaks holding his hand in her mouth, blood beginning to drop from where her teeth bit. The Nome looked to them, letting out a surprised noise and running away.

She let go of him, blood around her mouth. Her eyes were wide, a look of shook on her pale face. Seven hissed in pain, looking at his hand.

Her teeth punctured his skin, blood swelling to the top of it in a hurry. He held his hand close, glaring and bitting his tongue as he looked at the stupid animal.

"You bastard, watch what you're doing! Don't bite me ever again, do and I'll rip your damn teeth out!"

Still blinded by his anger, he grabbed her hood, suddenly dragging her. She resisted, but he didn't care. He dragged her to the next room, a small smirk of satisfaction on his face as he saw a hole in the floor boards.

When he stepped closer to it, the sound of leeches screaming and crying out could be heard. Sounded like they were hungry.

He hauled her over to the hole, ready to toss her in.

"I don't need a partner. I don't need anyone. The last time I did, I got back stabbed and thrown in this hellhole. I gave him respect and the only damn thing I got in return was a wad of spit and a knock to the head. Not any more."

He threw her to where she was only dangling by her hood, which was still gripped in his hands. Leeches let out noises of greed, some even jumping go try and grab her.

"We were the best team in the whole world! We were the opposite but so alike. He was the only one who didn't see me as some kind of monster!"

Squeaks curled up, barely out of reach from a desperate leach who jumped to try and get her.

"He was my best friend,"

His grip tighten, voice growing louder as he spoke.

"He is the reason I am alive today! If he hadn't come in and saved me, I don't what could have happened!"

His arm started to shake, his voice starting to shake and quiver, emotions beginning to slip past him. One tear after another started to run down his face, Seven turned and threw Squeaks onto the floorboards.

"I couldn't stop him... I couldn't even stop myself..."

His legs trembled under him, before they buckled and made him fall on his rear. He tried to stop himself from crying, angry at himself for even breaking his composure. He grabbed a fistful of his rough dark brown hair, his blue eyes wide as he stared at the floor.

Squeaks didn't come near him, her eyes showed how terrified she was. She didn't know what was happening with him.

It was silent after that, even after he calmed himself down. Squeaks seemed reluctant to following him now, following from a distance where she could still see him, but far away enough to stay out of his reach.

It was a shaky alliance after that, the trust Six had built with Seven was now broken and could never be fully mended anytime soon.

Finished - Oct. 18th

It's a little rushed, but I like it. Hope you all enjoyed! Also, to clarify, Six tried to grab his jacket sleeve to get him away from the Nome, but missed and bit his hand.

Take care!

I keep wanting to put 2012 cause I keep getting it confused.

Anyways, another chapter done! I'm actually okay with these few chapters, so I suppose these will be done quicker. Nearly 2000 words too, not bad past me.

Not much I can say for this, but I hope you all enjoyed! If you did, please don't forget to re-vote and comment, and I'll see you all next chapter.

Take care!
