Chapter Ten

Seki

...really?

I bet if it was a message from Tristan, you would've responded instantaneously...

Sure... make me wait...

Freaking Tristan, why does he even like this guy?

I mean, he's cute, but I've seen better.

Just as I notice the chat bubble come to life, I hear a knock on my bedroom door and know it's Trinity, finally up from her nap and ready to get all the info from my meetup with Tristan.

I flip my phone over onto my bed and mentally begin to prepare myself to let my sister in on the mess of a day I've had.

"Come in."

She enters my room, and it's almost impossible to ignore the sense of intrigue illustrated across her face as she plops herself next to me on my bed.

"So yeah, let's skip the small talk. You know I'm dying to know. What did Tristan have to say? Were your suspicions right?"

I take a deep breath before I let it all out. It's still fresh and I really don't want to relive it, but it's probably better to get some of this off my chest, anyway.

"Okay, get comfortable..."

I notice her adjusting herself on my bed now, facing me with her hand on her head and eyes wide open. She's clearly taking my advice way too seriously.

"So basically, yes, my suspicions were correct..."

I'm interrupted by my sister's extremely over-the-top gasp and jaw drop, but follow her gesture to go on as she continues to stare at me blankly, rolling her hand.

"When I got over to his house, he wanted me to help him pick out an outfit... remember the exchanging of numbers I mentioned earlier that he conveniently associated with a new work opportunity?"

"Yes, uh huh, go on, go on."

"Well, I had been having a long day, so I'll be honest I was already annoyed that he called me over to basically help him get dressed, and I already had the intention of just outright asking him, and I won't lie, I hinted at it a bit, that aside I decided to be a good friend and help him out."

"And then he says he's gay?"

"NO! Trinity, just listen...."

"... after choosing an outfit for him I asked if he had a resume, and he said no, once again me being the amazing person I am offered to help him throw one together for good measure, little did I know secrets were about to be exposed on his laptop."

"Omg, don't tell me you found nudes!"

"Yes, I found lots of nudes of him and other men..."

Trinity hops up so quickly she nearly flings me off the bed as she drops to her knees and covers her mouth, eyes still as wide as they were when I suggested she get comfortable.

"Trin, calm down. I was being sarcastic..."

She reclaims her seat on the bed and positions herself as she was before I blew her mind with my creative details.

"Oh, thank God, I mean my next question was going to be if the pictures were worth seeing or what the other guys..."

"Trinity, get it together. Logan, the boy I mentioned earlier, texted him, and Tristan's laptop was synced with his phone... he saved Logan's name with a heart next to it."

"What?!?"

"Yeah girl, so I tried to get his attention, but he was so enamored by Logan he chose to ignore me, and that's when I noticed the flirtatious nature of their texting."

"So, what did you do?" she asks, now chewing away at her nails.

"I confronted him, of course, which left us in a teary-eyed mess."

I try to hold myself together because the thoughts of everything that just happened are still weighing heavily on me; I don't want to cry again; I want to do something. I feel like I have to, but I'm just not entirely sure what just yet.

"Aw, I'm sorry sis, I tried to warn you, not to say I told you so or anything. I'm just trying to look out for you, and Tristan had a lot of red flags. Have you put any thought into what your next moves are? I mean, I want you to support him, I want to support him too, but I'm not gonna lie. This is a lot."

"Yeah, I know, I think I just need to..."

*ping*

I notice my sister's eyes dart quickly over to where my phone is lying face down on my bed.

"Oh God, tell me that's not him, Seki. Seriously, at least block him for a day or two so you can get your mind together. Better yet, I'll do it for you."

I see her reach for my phone, and I quickly toss my body over it, I'm pretty open with my sister, but I'm sure telling her that I'm talking to the guy Tristan is interested in on a dating app is not going to go over well with her.

She reaches her hand out authoritatively. "Seki seriously? Hand me your phone..."

I laugh nervously. I need to think of something, and fast.

A little truth mixed with a lie never hurt anyone, right?

"No uh, it's not him, I'm taking your advice, you know from earlier... about talking to guys on Crush? I think it might help just to go on a date or two, but it's kind of embarrassing so I want to keep it private, you know if things go well, I'll definitely fill you in, maybe we can like double or something... are you still seeing Nate?"

She raises her eyebrow. "Yeah, we're a little rocky right now, but that's beside the point. You've shown me guys you're interested in before. What's so different about this one? I swear if you are letting Tristan control your life and still lead you on... you already have your answers, Seki. What more do you need?"

"IT'S NOT Tristan! Damnit. Can I just get a little privacy for once? Or do you like seeing me fail? Because I will let you meet him if things work out, as I said before."

She tilts her head back with an appalled look and takes a breath before offering up a reply.

"I'm just trying to help, do what you want, but don't come crying to me when Tristan runs away with the crystal guy. I told you, Seki, there's other fish in the sea."

I feel the anger rising in me at her choice of words. I understand it was a bit bitchy to scream at her, but I really do need to figure this out on my own.

A sense of relief sweeps over me when she decides to make her way out of my room and wave goodbye silently as she exits. I love my sister but sometimes saying less is more.

Now that this awkward conversation with my sister is out of the way, I reach for my phone and see I have 3 messages waiting for me on Crush.

Yeah, I knew you couldn't resist me, Logan. I still got it.

I open the app and realize quickly that the two other messages are from some random guys I have no interest in, so I quickly swipe them away and click on the chat with Logan.

*New Message*

Logan: Um... Hi.

Seki: Hey, how are you?

Logan: I'm okay. A long day at the shop, just trying to clear my head.

Seki: Understandable, so... what are you looking for on this app?

Seki: I'm sorry that sounded stupid, I meant it just seemed like a guy like you must have a girlfriend or something...

What the hell am I doing? I sound like a creep.

Logan: Just browsing really, you know, being new and all, I don't know many people here.

He's not giving me much to work with here. If I can find out if he's seeing someone, that will definitely work in my favor.

Seki: Yeah, I know what you mean, so... no girlfriend?

Logan: Nope, no girlfriend... or boyfriend... yet....

Is he doing this on purpose?

Is he playing with me?

Is he trying to insinuate that he intends to pursue Tristan?

I hope not because he has another thing coming.

Logan: You know, you sure are asking a lot of questions about my dating life. Is that how this app works around here? Are those the regional rules... if so... do you have a boyfriend?

Bingo!

Seki: I'm single right now, just browsing like you... but I used to date someone you may know... I mean not to be awkward, but I think it's worth mentioning...

I feel an evil smile beginning to take form on my face as I make myself a bit more comfortable. Something about being a little bad just makes me glow internally.

Logan: Oh? Tristan, I'm assuming that's the only person we know in common. Funny, he hasn't brought it up to me, though. Guess it's not that worth mentioning. 😊

My jaw drops at his response.

Is he serious?

Motherfu....

I begin typing away so angrily at the keyboard of my phone I swear my screen could crack.

Seki: Cute. Just know one thing, Logan: I'm not going anywhere, and I'll protect Tristan's heart at all costs. I know guys like you, the ones that prey on the vulnerable. He's a nice guy, who deserves a nice girl, and I'm the perfect fit.

Logan: You might be the perfect fit, but for the wrong puzzle, it didn't seem to piece together correctly the first time, or maybe you just forgot the glue.

I cannot believe what I am reading, and I am becoming more and more infuriated at this point, that's it, it's time to show him who he's really playing with, the real Seki, I'm about to let him have it.

Seki: Listen, and listen closely, Logan, I will destroy you, I'm not scared of you or your magic tricks, crystals, or spirits, I am ready for war, and the next time I see you, you better believe Tristan will see this side of you, the little smart ass wannabe bad boy you're trying to keep hidden. Then we'll see if he'll even throw a glance your way, you little wannabe rebel prick.

*MESSAGE UNDELIVERABLE*

What?!?!

I see the message in all red caps and attempt to hit send again.

*MESSAGE UNDELIVERABLE*

Are you serious?!?!

I can't believe it...

Did this little bastard just block me?
