Determination

I told a deep breath. Just a few more minutes, I told myself. This is my last chance. I, a teeny-tiny 11 year old, Hispanic girl, had gotten herself into a fight with Aria Giovanni, a 14  old year.

Since the first day of school, Aria Giovanni seemed to hate me to the core. She bullied me. Teased me. At first, I cried and told the teachers. Then I fought back. But this was the worst. We were fighting right behind the school, dangerous. Also, we were at it for a solid 14 minutes. Everyone was prepared to run, since I'm just a few minutes, some of the other teacher would notice half the students gone.

Why was she fighting me? Rather, why was I fighting her? She insulted me, I hit her, ta-da, a fight. Now she had me in a headlock, her muscular hands locked around my thin neck. Aria Giovanni, the school's heavyweight champion, versus me, school need and orphan, what a sight.

Surely she wasn't going to kill me, or was she? I glanced at the crowd. My friend, Varia held up ten fingers, meaning twenty more seconds. She smiled grimly and flipped me a thumbs up. She then crossed her fingers and closed her eyes.

Would I be hold on to life? I had to. I was determined to finish this for once and for all. My whole life depended on this, and I was determined to walk away as the winner. No more hiding or running away now. I had to do this.

Aria's hands shook. A surge of strength surged through me and I bit down on her hand. She yelped but didn't let go. I bit again and again until I could taste the coppery, metallic taste of blood. I bit her one last time, opening the wound even more.

She let go and I dropped on to the floor, rolling away as far as could. I gasped for breath.

"You fight dirty." Aria Giovanni stated.

"So do you." I spit out blood and saliva at her face.

   "You-"

She lunged at me again, but I moved to the side just as she went crashing by.

"You little-"

"Little what exactly, Ms. Aria Giovanni Battista ?"
Everyone turned around as Ms. Bellini, the head of the school, walked towards us. No. No. No. I wanted to finish this today. Not with some teacher getting involved and saving Aria butt.

The whole school seemed to hold its breath as Ms. Bellini walked over.

Clip-clop-clip-clop

The sound of heels was the only sound as she surveyed the crowd and then said "Scram" Within seconds, only three people remained, me, Aria and Ms. Bellini.

Then, I did the most reckless thing I had ever done. I ran away. But not without kicking Aria once more for good measure.

Ignoring the shouts behind me, I ran. I ran far away. Way far for anyone to reach me.
