Short Story 2

A/N: Back again with another short story!  This is another story I had to write for ELA, and it sort of plays off the other one.  I changed all the names on here including my own, the originals were people from my actual school, so i didn't want to include them.  Anyways, hope you enjoy!!! I was staring at the cold, gray floor of my jail cell, just like I'd been doing everyday for the past twenty years. The wall was the same drab color, as were the sheets on the bed I was sitting on. The only other colors in here were the yellowish-white of the toilet in the corner and the bright orange of my jumpsuit. I didn't even have any prison mates because I was a murderer serving jail time for killing Donald Trump. In my humble opinion, it only worked out for the best. I should be able to enjoy the country that I made better, but here i was, stuck in a cramped and lonely prison cell. Even though I had no prison mates, I was, however, allowed to go to the prison cafeteria for meals. Suddenly, the barred door of my prison cell opened, and a loudspeaker came on announcing that it was time for lunch. I stood up, stretched my back, and walked out of my cell. When I arrived at the cafeteria, I went through the lunch line (subs today!) and sat down at my usual spot in the far corner of the lunchroom. Two police immediately walked up the me. I recognized one as the guard that always walks down the hall where my cell is. The other I'd never seen here before, but he looked vaguely familiar... "Anne, this is your new guard, Gordon Brown." Then it clicked.  Gordon graduated with me back in 2021!(A/N: the year I graduate!)  In hopes that he wouldn't recognize me, I put my head down and stared at the floor. "Wait, is the Anne that assassinated Donald Trump?"  Gordon asked the guard, "Because if it is, she graduated with me. And let just say that I never expected to see her like this." "Indeed it is." the guard replied. I didn't respond, so the two stalked off, leaving me alone with only my sub sandwich for company.(A/N: actually me)

The next day, I was laying in my bed staring at the unoccupied bunk above me when Gordon called my name from the hall. I sat up and looked at him questioningly. "Did you know that there's a class reunion coming up?" He asked. "HOW WOULD I KNOW THAT I'M STUCK IN JAIL WITH NO LIFE!" I shouted. "Why are you even telling me this? It's not like I can come... unless you get me out of here of course" "Look, I'm not helping you escape from jail, and i just thought you should know about the reunion because everyone wants you to come considering you 'saved America' and all. Gordon explained. "Can't you do something so I can come to the reunion?" I questioned. "Nope." Gordon replied simply. And with that, he turned around and walked away, with his red panda following closely behind him.

I was eating breakfast the next morning when the alarm sounded. Everyone was ordered back to their prison cells immediately. I purposefully stayed behind the crowd to see if I could catch a glimpse of what was happening. What I saw took my breath away. Someone was brutally murdering a policeman. I kept watching as they murdered another, then I hurried back to my prison cell. Two guards rushed me inside and closed the door, just as two knives hit them them straight in the chest. They slumped to the floor with their wounds bleeding profusely. Just then, the person who I assumed was the murderer hurried over to me and said in a woman's voice, "I'm gonna get you out of here." She was just about to hit the button to open my jail cell when Hayden's red panda came flying out of nowhere, knocked her to the ground, and clung on to her masked face. Gordon came next. "Good boy Georgie!" He exclaimed, giving his red panda a treat. Then he leaned down, pulled Georgie off the imposter's face, and took her mask off. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was Mary Smith, another classmate of mine. Gordon looked at her for a little, and then threw her into the unoccupied jail cell next to me.

I woke up in the middle of the night to a scratching sound coming from outside. Curious, I clambered onto the top bunk and looked out the little barred window. Down below, I could see two people wearing all black. They appeared to be climbing a rope that was attached to my window. When they came closer, I recognized their faces. It was Caroline Johnson and Blair Gregory! They reached the window and hurriedly explained that they were trying to rescue me from jail so I could come to the class reunion. Before I could ask how they were planning on saving me, Blair brought out a laser pen and melted the bars of my window. She was working on the last one when a spotlight landed on them. They were doomed. Some police standing at the base of the building ordered them to come down. At this point, I stopped watching and climbed back into my bunk. I stared at the bed above, knowing that I had a long, restless night ahead of me.

The next afternoon, the prison actually decided to put me to some use in the rooftop garden. I was filling up a watering can when two police that I'd never seen before told me to drop the watering can and come with them. So obviously, I did what I was told. They grabbed me by the arms and dragged me downstairs. Then, they turned down a hallway that I'd never ventured down before, and shoved me into a janitor's closet, closing the door behind them. They pulled off their police caps and I realized why I hadn't seen them here before. They weren't police at all. They were two of my former classmates, Lily Brannon and Ginny Wendell. "WHAT ARE YO -", I started, but Lily quickly put her hand over my mouth. "Don't shout!"  Ginny whispered, "It's just us! We wanted you to come to the class reunion so we're here to help you escape!" "But... how did you get those uniforms?" I asked. Lily and Ginny looked at each other. Then Lily said, "Well, we may have 'accidently' clubbed some officers on the head..." Lily had just finished her sentence when the door opened behind us and a janitor stood staring at us with wide eyes. I was surprised to see that the janitor was John Carrigan, but Lily and Ginny didn't seem to notice, because they pushed past him and shot down the hall as fast as they could. John pulled the alarm, and a few minutes later, some guards came to escort me back to my cell. I had no knowledge of what happened to Lily and Ginny, but I knew that it couldn't be good.

That night, I didn't fall asleep, because I couldn't. I was anticipating that something was bound to happen. And it did. Just a few hours into the night, I heard a tapping sound coming from outside. I was on the top bunk that night, so I looked out the window, and somebody was down there. They didn't have any kind of disguise on, which was odd. Whoever it was was bound to get caught, so I dismissed the matter and layed back down in my bed. But a few moments later, someone was thrown into my prison cell. I finally had company! To my surprise, the person was Elise Charleston! She scrambled up onto her feet and handed me something; a chisel. How she managed to keep that from the police, I had no idea. "So you can get out of here and go to the reunion." She explained. "Was that you down there?" I asked. "Yep, that was me." She replied with a sigh, "I was trying to get caught so I could give you the chisel." With that, I dropped down from from my bunk and set to work on a brick. I worked until daylight shone through the window, then hid the chisel under my sheets. "What's that you have?" Gordons's voice asked from behind me. I whirled around. "You'd better hand it over." He demanded. With a sigh, I pulled the chisel out from under my sheets and handed it to Gordon throught the bars. So much for that plan.

The next afternoon, I wasn't allowed to go to the cafeteria because of the "chisel incident", so they handed me a tray full of food through the bars instead. Today it was who knows what kind of soup with potatoes on the side. I was in the middle of eating my soup when the alarm went off. I jumped, spilling my soup everywhere. Gordon told everyone to stay calm and that everything was under control, but he didn't look so sure. Then, out of nowhere, a hoard of people led by Olivia Hathaway, Allison Parker, and Tristan Davis came from both ends of the hallway. Tristan tripped over Gordon's red panda and before I knew it, everyone else was on the ground too. There was at least one hundred people, all with familiar faces. Before any of them could get up, police surrounded them, and everyone was escorted away, one by one. I had no idea what just happened, but I did know one thing; this had been the weirdest five days of my entire life.

The next evening, I was allowed to go to the cafeteria for dinner again. When the cell door opened, I bolted out of my room and stopped in front of the entrance to the mess hall in complete shock. Every single one of my former classmates was in there, all wearing matching, bright orange jumpsuits. I talked to a few of them and found out about their lives before coming here. Allison Parker had been a yoga instructor, Lily Brannon had been a street vendor selling mugs in Chicago, and Blair Gregory had become an extremely rich and famous magician known for making bunnies appear in everyone's laps at her shows. None of them had a life anymore, just because they had all wanted me to appear at a class reunion. I suppose they got what they wanted, because here we all were. It may not have been what anyone expected, but we did get out well-earned class reunion after all.
