The Need For Speed

"'Find the area of a circle with a diameter of 3 1/2 feet with a formula of A = pi times r squared'."

"Oh, man, I could really go for some pie."

Cas and Dean were in the bedroom studying math. And it wasn't going very well.

"Dean, you need to focus. Math is important."

"What's the point? We have calculators for a reason."

Cas sighed. "If you wanna pass your class, you need to know this stuff. I bet you don't even know what pi is."

"Of course I do. It's a delicious dessert that comes in flavors such as blueberry, pumpkin, apple, cherry-"

"Dean!" Cas interrupted.

"What?"

"Not that kind of pie."

Dean sighed, laying on his back. "But that's the only kind of pie I care about!"

Cas sighed as well. "I know it's difficult, but you need to pass this class."

"It's like you care more than me."

"I just don't wanna see you fail."

"I'm not gonna fail, Pumpkin."

"Hey! No Pumpkin!"

Dean grinned. "I'll be fine."

"Dean, you have a 68!"

"And if you look at it-"

"I swear to god, if you say 'objectively', I will kick your ass!" Cas snapped.

"Hey, I was not gonna say that!"

Cas raised an eyebrow. "Really? What were you gonna say then?"

Dean paused, coming up with his words. "I... was gonna say... subjectively."

"Subjectively?"

"Yeah! Totally! Now... do we really have to do math?"

Cas sighed deeply. "Dean, I want to help you succeed. I can't help you if you don't cooperate."

"But, Cas, it's math. Me and math? Not on the best of terms."

"Well get over it and find the area of this damn circle!"

Dean kissed Cas's cheek. "I'll be fine, Cas. Besides, I need a 70 or higher to pass, and with this test coming up, surely I can rack up those two little points no problem."

Cas gave him an incredulous look. "Test?"

"Yeah, just a little test. I'll do fine, Pumpkin, I promise."

"You have a test coming up? When?"

"Friday, I think. Why?"

"This changes everything! We need to study for the test! Do you know what's gonna be in it?"

Dean thought for a moment. "Um... math."

"Anything specific, brainiac?"

"Hey, don't you sass me!"

"Oh, Im'ma sass you till the cows come home. We need to study, Dean!"

"Cas, life doesn't just revolve around math, y'know."

"Um, in a way, it kinda does."

"You know what I mean," He entwined Cas's fingers with his own. "Have you ever heard the poem called 'I Was Dying'?"

Cas squinted his eyes in confusion. "No. Why?"

"It goes like this. 'First I was dying to finish high school and start college. And then I was dying to finish college and start working. And then I was dying to marry and have children. And then I was dying for my children to grow old enough for school so I could return to work. And then I was dying to retire. And now, I am dying... and suddenly I realize I forgot to live.'"

Those words hit Cas hard. "Oh my god. I haven't lived. Have I?"

"No, you haven't. You need to make more bold choices in your life, before your life is over."

"Maybe I should be more ambitious."

Dean smiled, happy that he got through to him. "I think that's a great idea. Okay, if you could do anything, right now, what would it be?"

"Oh, well, I dunno. Backpack across Europe, maybe. Stop by France, try their wine and cheese. Go to the Eiffel Tower," He looked at Dean and scoffed. "I know, that sounds really dumb, right?"

Dean couldn't help but smile and kiss Cas's cheek. "Nothing you could ever say would sound dumb, Cas."

Cas returned the smile, heat rushing up to his cheeks as they turned red. "Where have you been all my life, you smooth son of a bitch?"

They both chuckled. "I've been places. Places you've never been, I guess." Dean replied, kissing Cas's cheek again.

Cas nuzzled his face into the crook of Dean's neck, hooking his arm around Dean's, sighing with content. "I could get used to all this intimacy stuff."

Dean smiled, kissing the top of Cas's head. "Me too, Cas."

The door suddenly swung open, causing them to separate as quickly as possible, Cas grabbing the paper they were using to study. "Uh, pi times r equals what?" He shouted.

"Uh, 17!"

"Correct! You get 30 points!"

Sam stood at the door confusedly. "Um... right. Dean, Bobby called. Your car is ready."

A smile slowly made its way across Dean's face. "You mean?"

"Yup. Your, uh, your 'baby'."

Dean looked over at Cas, smile still glued to his face. "Well, then, what are we waiting for? We've got a car to pick up."

They went down to the shop to pick up Dean's car, his Impala. She was right outside, soaking up sunlight. He just couldn't stop smiling.

"Oh, she's beautiful," Dean's smile grew as he got out of Cas's car. "Hey, baby. Ready for a test drive?"

"It does look pretty great." Cas grinned, getting out of the passenger seat.

"Hey, don't call her an 'it', Cas." Dean looked over his shoulder at him.

"Dean, life doesn't just revolve around this car, y'know."

"Oh, ha ha." Dean smirked and got in the driver's seat of the Impala.

Cas sighed and entered the passenger seat. "Dean, there's a slight flaw here."

Dean looked over at Cas, his face losing all expression. "What flaw? There's no flaw. She's perfect. Isn't she perfect?" He looked at the dashboard, lightly stroking the steering wheel. "He doesn't mean it, baby."

"Okay, first of all, you've called this car your 'baby' more times than you've looked at me."

"Oh, c'mon, that's not true, and you know it, Cas."

"Secondly, I'm not exactly a licensed driver, and now we have two cars to drive. I can't drive on my own, I've only got a learner's permit."

Dean saw what he was saying. "Oh."

"'Oh' is right. How am I supposed to get my car home?"

"Okay, just... give me a sec. We can figure this out. Um... can you take that driver's test today?"

Cas sighed. "Dean-"

"Wait, you can call your brother, right? Uh, Gabriel, was it?"

"Well... yeah. I don't think that would be a problem. Just as long as he isn't too busy procrastinating."

"Perfect! Call him, do it, go on!"

"You're rushing me because you wanna drive your car ASAP, don't you?"

"Of course I do! Now call him!"

Cas grinned and got his phone out of his pocket, dialing Gabe's number. After about two rings, he answered.

"What is it, little bro? I'm busy here."

Cas scoffed. "Busy doing what?"

He paused a little. "Shut up. What do you want?"

"Well, don't ask me why, but I need you to come pick up the car."

"Dude, the car's in the driveway."

"Uh... well, it isn't."

"Well, where's the car?"

Cas looked over at Dean. "What is this place called again?" He whispered.

"Singer Auto." Dean whispered back.

"Uh, Singer Auto. It's not far."

"If the car is there, and we have no other car, how the hell am I supposed to get there?"

"I dunno. Call a cab. You can figure something out."

"And where are you?"

"Um... I'm with Dean. Why?"

"Oh, Dean. Right. Your new cuddle buddy." He could practically hear Gabriel's smirk.

"Hey! He is not my-" He stopped short, remembering that he kinda was. "Can you get the damn car already?"

"I dunno, Cas. I am not easily persuaded. It will take more than begging to-"

"I'll buy you candy for a whole week."

"I'll call you when I get there."

"Great." And he hung up, looking over at Dean. "He's on his way."

Dean smiled, starting up the engine. "Ah, swell."

They drove out of the shop, cruising down the open road at about 75 miles per hour. About 30 over the speed limit, which was starting to freak Cas out.

He looked over at Dean. "It amazes me that you have a license."

"What? I'm taking my baby out for a test drive. No earthly laws will stop me from going full throttle. I feel the need; the need for speed!"

"Okay, Tom Cruise." Cas muttered.

"Hey, don't be such a Debbie Downer there, Goose."

"Screw you! I am not Goose!"

"Well, I'd call you Charlie, but that'd get confusing after a while."

Cas rolled his eyes, smiling small. "Well I don't wanna be Goose! He died, remember?" (Uh, spoiler alert.)

Dean smiled. "C'mon, you're just the cutest little Goose I've ever seen."

"Oh, shut up." Cas chuckled.

"So you prefer Pumpkin?"

"Ugh, god, enough with the Pumpkin! I'm no damn Pumpkin!"

"C'mon, Cas, there's so much meaning behind it!"

Cas scoffed. "So? It sounds ridiculous."

"It only sounds ridiculous if you let it sound ridiculous."

"Hmm... nope, it sounds ridiculous all on its own."

Dean grinned. "Cas, it's cute, you're cute, get over it."

"I don't wanna be a Pumpkin, Dean. I'd like at least a shred of masculinity."

"C'mon, Cas, I love - um, it." Dean blushed thoroughly. "I - I love it. It - it's really cute. Just like you." He was about to say "I love you", but he couldn't. Not yet. It wasn't the right time, he couldn't admit that yet.

Cas scoffed. "I'm nothing special."

"Of course you are. You're so sweet and lovable, and just seeing you makes my heart skip a beat."

It was Cas's turn to blush. "Stop that," He muttered. "You know I don't like to blush."

"I can't help it if I want to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside."

Cas covered his cheeks. "Well my face definitely feels warm and fuzzy outside."

Dean chuckled. "It's cute when you blush. Just like when you do everything else."

"My god! Will the blushing nightmare end?" Cas exclaimed.

Dean put his hand on Cas's knee. "Cas, I find you exceedingly adorable, you know that?"

Cas blushed even more, if that was possible. "Dean, both hands on the wheel!"

He chuckled. "Sorry. Can't help it."

"Seriously, you're gonna get us killed!"

"I'll try my best not to."

"Dean, you're going 75 with only one hand on the wheel! That's a serious hazard!"

"I'll be careful, Pumpkin."

"Hey! You're not calling me Pumpkin, alright?"

Dean shrugged slightly. "Why not?"

"Because it sounds ridiculous!" He exclaimed.

"It's not that ridiculous. I think it's cute."

"Well you're wrong."

Dean chuckled, keeping a close eye on the road ahead. Last thing he'd want to do was wreck his brand new car the same way he wrecked his old one. But, even with laser precision focus on the road, he was well aware of Cas holding the hand that rested on his knee, entwining their fingers, a small smile growing on Dean's face.

He'd never been so happy with anyone or anything in his life. And he'd make sure never to let that feeling slip away from him.
